  • The main line through Bethpage is busier than ever now with the new schedule change. We see more diesels going by headed for the Central Branch, more locals to new terminus at Brentwood, and numerous express trains to Ronkonkoma. The railfans were out in force on this pleasant evening. We see lots of M9’s plus an M3 express.

What the railroad really need to do is have some trains originating from their branch to Brooklyn for the AM rush hour and same way with the PM rush hour. The Brooklyn shuttle can run every 20 min from 9 AM to 3 PM and after 7PM , that’s my opinion with the schedule and I would love to experience the train ride to GCT from Long Island

RRFHG, Tim, great stuff as always. Re GCT ridership: 100 plus years makes for a hard habit to break!!

Is there ever a day when at least one rush hour train isn't cancelled?? Oh well. I remember Bethpage being less busy. Glad it's got more trains than ever before, now that GCT is open. I haven't visited the station in a long time... maybe it's time to change that. Thanks Tim!

I got a good feeling the reason those “Second Train Coming” signs are there is because so many passengers are incredibly ignorant at crossings when they get off the train and their train blocks them when it leaves the station. When they do that, they don’t know another train could be coming the opposite way, which would end up killing them.

I love how all the Montauk Branch trains use the Central Branch with the new schedule.

It would be nice if more of them stopped at Hicksville (and Mineola, for those that don't use the express track) to facilitate intra-island travel.

i actually don't remember the original Ronkonkoma Rocket stopping at Hicksville, i thought it went straight to Brentwood after departing Penn.

I know it has for a long time stopped at Hicksville but I don’t have an old schedule to verify that

what I would do is tell the railroad to remove that annoying warning second train coming sign and this crossing is the only crossing out of all the other ones that have this

Love that in order accommodate people's complaining they shortened the EMUs to 8 and 10 cars to have more trains running due to the lack of m3s and M9s

Because the crossing ahead of this one times out whenever there is a stopped train. It times out so that traffic doesn’t get held up too badly for a stopped train. However, this creates problems for the passengers that are still on the train (as well as the operator) because they have to go slow when leaving to give that crossing enough time to fully activate
