in southeast asia, there's a lot of cases of inherited familiar spirits, passed on from one generation to the next. in the past, those who have plots of land require extra pair of hands and eyes to guard their territory, so those spirits will make sure nothing is stolen. but the problem is some have strict upkeep. in malaysia for instance a type of familiar spirit will demand specific types of food at exact timing. if you miss that timing they will punish you.
the practice of familiar spirits is not openly discussed but very much active in indonesia, malaysia and singapore. usually you'll find lots of rich families having familiar spirits to bring in wealth for them through business opportunities. in southeast asia too black magick is very much alive and it's brutal. one business owner that doesnt like competition will hex the other, which is why familiar spirits can be important in breaking hexes and curses.
