      @@Zarvy So you are sure that is it rabies? If not, you need confirmation. If yes, you may want to consider palliative measures. Whatever it is, the only reasonable advise I can give you, is to consult an expert since as far as I know, at least in theory your symptoms may be something else and then you still have a chance! If it was a rabid cat, your chances are already reduced because you didn‘t do that immediately. Now don‘t let this slip again!

    “He can no longer leave the room until he dies” Letting someone to suffer and die alone? Why bother having doctors at all? These countries need proper access to proper medical care. I don’t know for sure as I’m not a doctor, but I must believe that today in 2020 in America and other developed counties that rabies patients are put into a medically induced coma before symptoms equal agony and suffering. And hydrate through IVs, while they’re in a coma...no suffering. I pray for an end to the way the world is now. Where no one suffers like this

      The vast majority of hospitals and even entire countries are not equipped to put someone into a coma or give appropriate palliative care in regards to rabies cases.
      Just as an example, if they were in a coma, they would require a ventilator. Even the best hospitals cannot spare a ventilator, let alone a hospital in an area that is underfunded, understaffed and ill-equipped for palliative care.
      Ultimately, they had absolutely no choice in the matter. Even if they had wished to put someone in a coma, they are not able to.

      Yeah, so it's basically what they have to do because if symptoms already persist there is no turning back to death anymore. If you reach the hydrophobic stage it's 99% likely your expected to die.

      @@markleogante9183 I got bitten by my classmate's dog two days ago. It bit my left leg straight to the sural nerve and I immediately got vaccinated the next day. I did some research on the vaccine used (Speeda from China) and it says it will take maximum effect 4 to 7 days after injection. I wonder if I will be alright or not, because the virus (if it has) travels much faster in the nerves than on the bloodstream. I'd like to know if it's enough time for the vaccine to function before the virus finally reaches the brain (endgame). Please, I'm legitimately scared and can't even sleep because of this. I'm experiencing twitches on the bite area and spasms. It feels as if somebody run a car over my left leg and I also have borderline fever and malaise. Please help. 🥺

      Even if you got rabies vaccines immunity doesn’t last forever you will need titer test atleast every 2 years and boosters. And if pre vaccinated then bit you still need the vaccines you just won’t need the immunoglobulin shot at wound

    • @rabiesalliance
      @rabiesalliance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. It is certainly possible with "Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)". As some people have correctly pointed out, this is typically available to people in high-risk professions (such as veterinarians or animal handlers), but it is also available from travel clinics globally.
      If you plan on travelling to a high-risk country, or if you live in a rabies-endemic country, you may want to consider PrEP.
      Unfortunately, the cost of this vaccination is typically high and it does not provide lifelong protection. PrEP simply reduces the number of doses of Post-exposure prophylaxis vaccine required after an exposure and eliminates the need for rabies Immunoglobulin (which is often not available in endemic countries).

    • @rabiesalliance
      @rabiesalliance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Rabies is transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal. Therefore, the may be a slight risk of transmission if the animal's saliva came in contact with an open wound or your mucous membranes. From your post, you mention that the cat is your own cat, therefore, you can answer some of these questions to help determine your risk:
      1) Is the animal vaccinated against rabies?
      2) Do you suspect your cat to have rabies?
      If your cat does not have rabies, then there is no risk of transmission. However, if your cat was exhibiting signs of rabies, we would recommend that you seek medical attention before the onset of clinical symptoms.
      You can learn more about rabies, its transmission and the risks on our "About Rabies" pages (rabiesalliance.org/about/about-rabies), as well as through our online, certified education courses available free of charge (bit.ly/2PrbjEO).
