Exactly the vid I hoped you would post. Slow is good, LOVE the electric quiet. And Beau, "Eh, that's why we have an anchor" 😄 Also, Brandy, your appreciation of all nature is so refreshing when it seems so few even notice. Be well & fair winds.
Love this 'slow video' series :) A lot to think about moving around on a sailboat. I enjoy seeing how you two work with each other to get 'such-and-such' done - getting through the locks, maneuvering to grab a line, getting the sails up/down, the anchor, etc. And of course, the scenery and wildlife are also always nice to see! As always... thank you for sharing your adventures with us!
Your recent videos are really very good, I've followed from the start and I've always liked your style but I must say I do like your more recent stuff. Keep up the good work. Stay Safe & Fair Winds!!
Afrer going through the Ballard locks numerous times in Seattle, it's crazy that they have you hang on to the lines vs cleat them off. Funny to see you guys in coats!! 😅
I have always wondered, if in addition, to gators, those waters could sustain the survivability of bull 🦈 sharks, since they are known to thrive in brackish and fresh water as well. There is even a sub species in Lake 🇳🇮 Nicaragua, that evolved into living in its fresh water(Lake Nicaragua Shark). Great video as always !
I did the Okeechobee solo west to east a few years ago in a 28ft Sovereign cutter. Then turned north up the ICW. It was an awesome trip. Spent some time at Roland Martin Marina for enroute repairs, took the south loop through the lake area. The autopilot on the boat didn't work so +/- 500 miles manually steered. Motored entire route, I had just bought boat in Cape Coral and rig needed work. Most challenging aspect solo was the higher lock lifts, keeping her stable on the wall solo with lock filling. I was also disappointed I never saw any 'gators, but I am sure they saw me.
Every one shuld lock into boat life. Go England and see canal tubes and so on. Maby take some river cruise The life on board like me here now in Amsterdam or very close to Amsterdam. Boat season in europe has started 1 april. But iv bean here over vinter and no problems at all. Love traveling and get chill life
Thanks yall. Im working hard on rehabbing it so I can go back South and live for a year or two. Just trying to pick the right place. I've been to Costa Rica 4 times but want something better. If you have a recommendation im all ears. Yall have fun Sean
My experience,, the gators were closer to the Lake. West side.. In the channels around the lake.. also mid day and later. So cool in the beginning, we lived just off to the right,(Southside) of that Moore Haven bridge you called. Brought back neat memory. Northside is town. They got a traffic light in town now I hear!! Sat in that bridge tender house for hours....😢, thanks..
You should tie your job sheets on with a long tail so that when the headsail flaps it can whip around rip the boat apart or even whip and kill someone.
On my Beneteau Oceanis 350 my 28 hp Diesel is not loud at all after I changed all the engine room foam too special lead Foam with an aluminum skin. Yes, not as quiet as your Electric, but if I used 25 gallon a year that would be allot, she has a 21 gallon tank and two things, hit water for shower from the Engine, and a 120 amp alternator charging, an 8D and 4D , also a hand crank, which I used once. The electric boat good idea, but until we have room Temperature Superconductors, so the charge anxiety and what if the weather changes and you need too get out of there, granted only sailed her 7200nm, mostly in the northeast , but endured a Nor Easterand the engine was a factor in getting too a safe harbor for it. In 20 years of sailing never used my 5 gallon Jerry can for myself, never even cracked a half a tank. I only have 750 hours on the engine. Not enough hours for Volvo , but when I run it I make sure she runs hard at 1800 rpm, turn on everything too the max, for the load. Know what you mean about sAiling, just hearing the water, and the life in it. You need a Harken Furler, real bad, really another safety issue. There is no price you can put on safety, if you ever come up too Long Island, look us up, great free dinner and lots of great stuff in Greenport for boats. God bless fair winds..
I like how you said it was cold and you would think we aren't in Florida. Yeah I used to live in Florida last year. I lived there for 2 years. I think I was the only person in Florida that had a Carhartt winter jacket. Everyone asked me why. The reason is because every once in a while it can freeze and I remember hearing that. But when it got cold, I wasn't. You have to be prepared for everything.
I sail pretty much everywhere…bahamas, east coast…if no wind I don’t go. But when I have to motor, I will take 5kts with a diesel any day or night over 1.5/1.8 kts with electric (in flat water) and worrying about batts draining after sun-less days.
Omg guys… my nerves were on edge with Brandy grabbing that line and the boat going sideways … I saw the concern on beaus face and started freaking… I grabbed hubby and and he’s like relax they got this…😂😂😂
Another great video! surprised to see that you own clothes for cold weather! 🥶 Its amazing what you see and hear when your boat is silent and you are going slow! Between your sailing videos, boat projects and that we have sisterships you are by far my favorite sailing channel. If you are ever up here let me know it would be fun to get together. ⛵
Very interesting nature video. I've lived in a few areas of south Florida but have never seen the river and locks before, like this. Thank you and be safe always 💞, from the Philippines.
great job capturing the "feel" of this section of your trip. Very very enjoyable video. great job and thanks for sharing this. Where are you headed? I am n Tarpon Springs.
With the solar discussion... when we build our 38' trimaran, starting next year, it will have a very large hard dodger to hold a lot of panels. I plan to have at least two arrays set up in event one side is shaded by the main sail, and some additional panels on the sides of the ama/ wing berths. Should make about 1800 watts or more at peak.
I enjoy watching you 'slow boat' like this. It takes a lot of energy to sail and video all at the same time and I've watched other sites get stressed out with the whole 'YouTubing' aspect of just sailing and giving all of us out here in 'viewing land' GLIMPSES (only glimpses) into day to day experiences you might have while sailing or putt-putting along (in your wonderful case the occasional whir-whir...electric motor, along). Other folks have given the whole TH-cam aspect a bit too much because they want to keep the amounts of likes up and it's come to control their lives way way way too much, when the whole idea was to show the occasional mini-video every once and a while. Yes it's nice to have greater numbers of watching public but that can't be why people use this medium. I like picking up on minor things like watching you use your hand held wind instrument (anemometer I think...or thunk), which you like to joke about but it's not going stop using unless you don't change the batteries, simple is better. Other folks with all kinds of gizmos and gadgets up the mast seem to get struck by lightning more often than not. The other thing I was always wondering about that you answered here was the idea of the mail sail connection. I was always wondering why the wind doesn't catch it and billow it out by accident, but then Beau filmed unhooking it from the line and hooking it onto the small holder on the railing and my first reaction was 'Neat!'...yes that's what I said. I am kind of curious why you don't install the type of regenerating propellor which would help recharge your batteries while you are at sail, or isn't that available for the inline prop that you have on. Just some thoughts. Great video you two...you three if you want me to include your vessel.❤❤❤❤
Glad you were able to give some stats for your electric motor power/energy usage. Still curious about your top speed and how your energy usage varies. Watts per mile/knots at top speed and low speed ? Thanks for sharing the adventure !
so wild to see you two doing what we did 2 years ago when we took our Catamaran from Tampa Fl to Georgetown SC. We stayed at. the Labell free dock just beside the bridge
LaBelle is something unheard of in Florida, a free dock with free utilities with groceries and a hardware a short walk away. Also didn't see the famous Bellehatchee diy boat yard. After the Ortona lock where you watched the gator you passed the lollypop anchorage.
Liking the slow flow. More people need to slow down and enjoy life and nature. I'm sure y'all need to get somewhere but guess what I'm sure it'll still be there waiting for you to love birds. Keep enjoying and summer is just around the corner and you'll be praying for a cool breeze. Take care and be safe,,, Lost Cajun
If you want to get close to gators down here in Florida, just hop out on your rib, or better yet a kayak or a paddle board with a fishing pole. They'll swim right up underneath you,and some of the bolder ones right up next to you on the surface to see if you have any fish they can steal. Gators are one of the Freshwater versions of the oceans tax men, sharks, dolphin, and big grouper.

not sure what youre asking. the diesel that was in Saoirse originally was seized and non working. so we replaced it with electric.
