    very poorly researched, many of the minerals on this are relatively harmless, in that you really have to mishandle them to get hurt, moreover many of the ones listed with things such as copper(all copper minerals are poisonous) and arsenic are toxic in all varieties that exist in nature and there are many that are worse than what you had in your list, Further more the radioactive mineral you listed is one of the weaker ones, it doesnt really have that much radioactivity compared to say autinite or the really toasty Uraninite aka pitchblende, which can be especially bad in some matrix's that also contain the bi-products of uraniums decay, those can be REALLY toasty, I own a piece about the size of a chickens egg, that gives off about .5rads of beta+gamma radiation and 20,000 counts a sec of all types including alpha.

      no,you are wrong it is all wrong because a flying rock or coral is the deadliest mineral and rock especially if it hits you in the face earlier today I got hit by a ball on the face.

      @Ore-some Emeralds, I've been collecting realgar for a while. I have a very limited amount of stones of poor quality as far as collectors are concerned, but they are cool to have in my collection just because I'm a collector/hoarder LOL. I pulled them out of the river while collecting stones/minerals, so the community can thank me for protecting the water supply from the toxins of mother nature. I've got cinnabar too and would love to someday extract the mercury from them, but I'm in no rush due to safety concerns.

    I do have to call 'BS" on the Copper Sulfate (Chalcanthite). CuSO4+5H2O is nothing but Copper Sulfate and water. It is one of the most-used fungicides on earth, and only becomes toxic to humans above 11mg/kg ingestion. Since ingesting it instantly triggers vomiting, death by Copper Sulfate is nearly unheard-of. It used to also be used as a wet-battery 'restoring' chemical to help recondition car batteries. Again, this is more in the lines of 'WD-40, don't drink it' than 'look at it wrong, and you'll instantly die' type of 'deadly'.

      Also galena (lead ore) is not as bad as it makes it sound.
      Sure lead is bad for you but just touching it won't really do anything. Unless that is you rub your hands all over it and lick them afterwards and repeating this s few times (If you are the kind of person that does that then i am surprised you are not dead already from something else).

    I just bought a geiger counter and discovered one of the large obsidian rock in the front yard by the road is radioactive. On the lower end of the "High" parameter. Meaning more than normal range like background radiation we all live with, more than medium radiation- but high.. however not very high. Surprised us. The other is not at all radioactive. We live around a lot of obsidian and I plan to check local samples. Not sure where the radioactive one came from but I doubt we would have gotten it rockhounding elsewhere since it's so abundant here.

    Im hoping you can help me as I've been searching everywhere and I keep getting both sides of the answer: is polished arfvedsonite dangerous in anyway due to it being an amphibole and having asbestos in, and is it only dangerous when crushed, broken or anytime dust can be released into the air due to cracks and breakages and not when handled gently or placed under my pillow for nightmares?
    I've read everything from - it's one of the best stones to wear and use in meditation for XYZ, to - always wash your hands after handling, only have it as a visual piece due to it being very toxic. However, there are limitless examples of arfvedsonite pendants, earrings, and other types of jewelery as well as so so many options to buy the stone tumbled, in a palmstone or in a terminated point etc. If it is so dangerous surely it wouldn't be made into pendants and hung right under your nose basically? Or am I wrong. I need help as I've fallen in love with a palmstone I bought of it and now I'm worried about sleeping with it in my hand to help nightmares or working with it due to some things I've read (hard to find and not as readily available as the info on the gem as a healing stone is. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    I liked your video and thought it was very informative. I had never before even thought that rocks and gems could possibly be poisonous but this video showed me otherwise. As an example, I didn't know that Asbestos came from a rock or mineral. I thought that was a man made product ! One thing I wish the video had was the most common places this stuff is found , like areas in the United States. I know one said came from Colorado but the others I wondered what the chances of me accidentally picking this stuff up would be . I'm always picking up rocks from where ever I go.

    • @roll4story
      @roll4story 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sandra Case Honestly, most of these simply aren't that dangerous. I used to handle galena, for instance, in my mineralogy class with no gloves. Just don't go licking strange rocks and you'll probably be fine. Although the really bad ones they were listing tend to be found near volcanic vents, so unless you live near a volcano, I think you're fine with your collecting.
      But if you are concerned, I would recommend getting a pair of gloves and some plastic bags/containers to carry with you. That should protect you from pretty much the most common things.

      GROW YOUR MIND arsenopyrite, the last one is quite common in underground nickel mines here in Western Australia, especially in conjunction with very high grade nickel content of the ore normally over 9% to the tonne. I have samples of the stuff here at home, they have been sealed with 3 layers / coats of heavy duty clear lacquer spray paint. When this stuff is present in the nickel ore and a underground heading in the ore drive is fired, then watering down the dirt one can smell the arsenic fumes in the air coming from the dirt while it's being watered down.

      Bismuth is just as toxic as other common metals like aluminum or copper.
      Maybe you are thinking of berilium. That stuff is kinda like lead expect 1000 times worse. It is used in certain specialist applications like thermal paste(not so much anymore) , high temperature insulators used in microwave ovens, xray equipment etc But much like lead you need to actually inhale it or lick it before it actually has an effect on your health.
