  • Goan style alsanyache tonak is a typical Goan gravy dish cooked in coconut based gravy with the blend of spices which gives this tonak an aromatic and flavourful taste. This tonak is made traditionally from red cowpeas which is known as alsane in Goa. Tonak is usually eaten with pav but tastes good with roti ,rice or chapati.

    Ingredients for roasting to make gravy
     1 big bowl grated coconut
     1 onion roughly chopped
     2 tbspn oil
     4 red chillies(you may increase or decrease the chillies based on your taste)
     1 tspn coriander seeds
     ½ tspn peppercorns
     7-8 cloves
     ½ tspn fennel seeds
     ½ inch cinnamon
     1 black cardamon
     Small piece mace
     6 garlic pods
     ½ tspn haldi powder
     ¼ tspn poppy seeds
     1 small ball of tamarind
     6-7 cashewnuts
     2 petals of star anise
    Ingredients for pressure cooking
     1 cup alsande (red cowpeas) washed and soaked overnight
     1 potato cut into small cubes
     1 onion finely chopped
