If your vehicle (that's being towed) has a locking steering column, Disconnect the battery and turn the ignition key to ON so the steering does not lock. :)
You 100% need a drop down hitch that goes down a lot further at that angle that ball will tear out of that cup. You need at least another 5” of drop. And that safety chain is no where near rated for that car. It will snap like a twig. But at least get the hitch an tow bar level as close as you can.
My 69 was towed all over the West by my folks behind their motor home in the 80,s. Now I own the Bug, but have yet to tow it, so you answered some of my questions. Thanks
I agree about the steep angle and the lightweight chain. The shackle should equal the chain size as well. I would look at a 1/4” chain and shackle for the Bug’s weight.

Do you have Vermont plates on the bug b/c you had a title issue (aka no title)? I have heard that Vermont is a good state to go through for this problem but idk how the process works. I have a 70 Montana Red t2 I need a title for. Did you make a video on this process or could you maybe point me in the direction to accomplish this if it is the path you had to take. thank you

WHOA! You put the pins in BACKWARDS! The cotterpin should be in the back so it can't be knocked out by the swaybar! 😱🤪🤣👍✌️🇺🇸

Sorry that is not why you cross the chains. Its for stability in the event that it unhitches from the tow vehicle.

eBay or Amazon. They were only $80 5 years ago. Now they are even cheaper. I highly recommend them! 300% better than stock halogen headlights.

Hey BT, is it safe to just flat tow in neutral? My bug has swing arm rear suspension.

No. It’s far under the weight limit for needing trailer brakes.
