Once upon a time, in a math class in France : Teacher : "Okay, students, what's 60 plus 10? Students : "Sixty-ten, Madame!" Teacher : "Great. Now, what's 20 times 4?" Students : "Four-twenties!" Teacher : "Parfait. Lastly, what's 4 times 20 plus 19?" Students : "Four-twenties ten nine, Madame!" Teacher : "Good job."
Well done Alexa. This is the exact pronounciation our teacher is teaching. You are really an inspiration. Just keep on making videos. I am an Indian learning french. Great teaching.
Not if you know how it works, look when they say 70 they say:"Soixante-dix" well soixante is 60, and dix is 10, so 60+10=70. Thats how it works and after 10 comes 11, thats why it's "soixante-onze" etc. 80 is quatre-vingts well here we go again, quatre is 40 and vingt(s) is 20 so... 40x2(0)=80 and then you got 90 and that's "quatre-vingt-dix" that means 40x2(0)+10=90. then you go on counting the same way as 70. "quatre-vingt-dix" (90)- "Quatre-vingt-onze"(91). I hope you understand it more now... I tried my best X3
Hideyoshi Snugglemuffin well no shit, captain obvious, I'm just saying that they are using base-10 just fine for numbers below 70 and then they changed it for the ones above 70, they could just follow the Swiss' path

Thank you! It’s so strange for English speakers when at school learning the French numbers. We did 1 to 10, all good. Then 11 to 16, no problem. Then trouble and confusion starts at 17-19. What you suddenly have to say 10+7 = 17. Plain sailing from 20 to 69. Then things got confusing again. English equivalent of say 71 would be ‘Sixty and Eleven’. Then 81 would be ‘Four twenty’s and one’. Then 91 would ‘Four twenty’s and eleven’. I always wondered why the French don’t just have a single word for 70, 80 & 90! It’s all very interesting and good fun. It just means when I speak my limited French I have the do a mathematical calculation to remember how to say the 70,80,90’s numbers! Merci. 😁
You are the best French teacher i found after searching! You are so humorous, energetic and fun loving! Every student needs a teacher/mother like you! Merci beaucoup! 💖☺
In Swiss and Belgium, they say : “septante, huitante and neunante” instead of “soixante-dix”, “quatre-vingt”, “quatre-vingt-dix” and i think that’s more logical and less difficult for foreigners
its Switzerland and are you sure huitante is even a waord? I typed French to English and French box I typed huitante and the same thing appeared in the English box. I checked to see if there were other translations but there were none. Then I typed eighty in the English box and when I checked "more translations" and huitante wasn't there. I love the rhythm that you are using Alexa. Sounds so soft and lovely. It helps me to repeat with you and remember all the numbers. Love from Turkey ! :D
it's like that because of the base sixty counting system requiring only the numbers 1-60 for clocks and such but as number theory advanced they needed new larger numbers hence these wierd ones
@@elisewatkins6153 true but that isn't going to make the pause longer between the next number and it will distort the real pronunciation. I have the same trouble, hopefully I will get fast enough to keep up one day.
It’s because when you pronounced old french words fast, some letters were akward or too much complicate to pronounce So we just turn them into silent letters for make it more easy
I will have to really work on 79 to 99! , got the basics of it.I find writing French hard as I have learned some french by listening to college professor whilst spending time at his house and going places. Hi Alexa. I love watching your videos. They make learning French so much easier. One question though, when counting in the 80's do we pronounce the 'n' in vingt in quatre-vingt?
YES!!!! Every morning I play this and count along saying it before you and this morning I did it all the way through without making a mistake!!!! Well chuffed with myself 😁 Thank you
The French were like “Soixante-Six” what comes next???!!! “Soixante-sept??!” “Non Idiot, I got it…Soixante-dix-sept” “but wouldn’t that make it 70107?” “NON IDIOT YOU MULTIPLE THE 10 and 7 then add another 7. Mon Diue” “wouldn’t it be easier to just stick with the pattern and call it Soixante-huit??” “Qui but we are French nothing is ever simple with us, now what are we gonna call after Soicant-dix-neuf??” “Oh Mon Dieu”🤦♂️🤦♂️

Me too I dont like language but is a bit easy to learn I am learning to
70 = septante 80 = huitante 90 = nonante !!
more logical !!!
HAHAHAHA that should be! instead of seventy-ten! i went crazy.
yes!! I wonder why did the language evolve like that..
it's like that because of the base sixty counting system requiring only the numbers 1-60 for clocks and such but as number theory advanced they needed new larger numbers hence these wierd ones
this is belgium's french

Can't believe the French love math so much that they add it to their numbers

Super !

French teacher TH-cam
Well she's mispronouncing most of the words.. any real Frenchman/woman will tell you u don't pronounce the last 1 or 2 letters lmao 😂😂
I am in 6TH and my fiench teacher does not help me at all you are a big help right now
I've been teaching myself French and the numbers are really a pain in the butt... thanks for the video! really straight-forward.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
This would be great if I could keep up. Before I can finish the pronunciation she's already on the next one.
You can make it slower by pressing the three dots and then playback speed
@@elisewatkins6153 true but that isn't going to make the pause longer between the next number and it will distort the real pronunciation. I have the same trouble, hopefully I will get fast enough to keep up one day.
I checked a couple of your videos before my quiz and got 200 out of 200
Thank you for helping all of us
love you, Alexa :)
2:41 is what you're here for

That's what I heard 🤣🤣
Thank you🤣🤣🤣😭😭
How many silent letters yall want?
French: “Oui”
Old french used to be not silent, i don't know what happened.
It’s because when you pronounced old french words fast, some letters were akward or too much complicate to pronounce
So we just turn them into silent letters for make it more easy
Daffodils
I will have to really work on 79 to 99!
, got the basics of it.I find writing French hard as I have learned some french by listening to college professor whilst spending time at his house and going places. My professor was Mauritius and his mother language was French. My opinion written and spoken french is like two different languages. I will have to take the bull by the horns. Thank you for these lessons Alexa
alexa, my problem is when you speak you speak slowly but when i listen to french movies or news channel its extremely hard. so, i suggest speak normally from one time to another to test myself. merci
yes but I mean in the sentences you occasionally made in the vocabulary lessons
+Alexa Polidoro How do I find that series?

Hi Alexa. I love watching your videos. They make learning French so much easier. One question though, when counting in the 80's do we pronounce the 'n' in vingt in quatre-vingt?
Yes you do, but not the T. So it would sound a bit like 'CAT-RE-VAN' :)
Thanks for your lovely comments!

My daughter is from India but she speaks so nice French she got 78 gold medals in speaking french
