In our western culture, the church community needs to be careful as to how it raises up particular pastors who are influential beyond their local congregation. The church needs to give notoriety to those whose goal and focus is bringing fame and honor to God and not themselves. However, we need to be warned not to invest peculiar power and authority on certain pastors.
Thank you Carl Trueman for voicing it. It's really important.

How is it possible?
And yet, the worship of celebrity pastors continues. Thabiti has disavowed evangelicalism, Mahaney has cast a shadow on the gospel, Platt and Chandler have become woke and labeled their congregations as racist. These panels of elitists are beginning to disgust me because of the false humility. Some of the greatest pastors and theologians I know are generally unknown to the celebrity seekers and head-banging Christians that populate many churches today.
I am getting very sick and tired of ignorant and uneducated people throwing around the word "woke" and they have simply NO idea what exactly that is or what it is about or anything along those lines. They get their talking points from Fox News or some other insane news source instead of going out and doing some research and talking to folks who actually know what that is and how it operates. Absolutely disgusting behavior and very un-Christlike to do this. Pure rubbish are they!

Dr. Trueman, for his part, is renowned for his (regretfully departed) professorship at Westminster Theological Seminary and his personal efforts in histo-theological scholarship. Revisiting this in 2021. As per usual, Carl was spot on. Nothing has changed with TG4. It's also interesting to call to mind what has transpired for some of the men on this panel and their ministries over the past few years. Regarding John Piper: he did not then nor does he now preach the Reformed doctrinal view of salvation and justification.
