Great video as always Andrew. I'd be interested to see how you bring in the low voltage cabling and terminate it.

In my 13 years in public school maintenance I was the senior door and hardware specialis, repairing and replacing doors ,frames and hardware as needed.our locksmith shop had several zones with old schools and new schools and they had every type of exit device and pull trim you can imagine...the best device as far as maintenance was concerned they all agreed on was the Sargent 8888 model rim exit device,All stainless steel.
we had to perform seasonal preventative maintenance inspections on literally hundreds of doors and exterior panic devices. The old PHI devices had to be lubricated every year ,the push bar would push in and come back out slow or not at all.bad for security. The lock smiths had trouble with the Von Duprin devices springs and pins but mostly on the vertical rod styles,so they wrote a spec for Sargent devices only and cut the work orders and emergency call down to only staff and contractor damage calls.
Any device will work in low use areas ,but please do your homework if you have high use areas.thanks for your time and keep swinging those doors guy.

Nice work. Love the positive vibes. Have you retrofitted any of these on existing preps? Thanks!

Never tried to retrofit this hardware before. Only new installs up till now. Thanks so much for checking it out. I love this work!

We stopped using these because of the unreliability of the panics in heavy use areas we switched to the QEL 9827’s love your channel keep up the awesome content my bro

Great video. We had a Hispanic crew that threw these together in a hurry on our building and now i am finding all the issues after they have left. The center slide is so far off that the push bar will release the pins when almost fully pressed in instead of half way . If someone presses the the push bar perfectly in the center, Great . but if you push on it either side of center , the bottom pin wont fully retract , the bottom latch hangs up then pops out the bottom latch spring . It has happened so often , the latch spring is toast and i am now at a latch replacement.
So do you have a video how to adjust the center slide after a company has installed it the wrong way.
And second question have you ever started over with the inner Cable replacement kit ? The $137 one not the full set for $1000 plus. Once you tighten that upper and lower end fitting nut , no more cable adjustment can be made, so i am hoping with the cable replacement i can cut old out , re feed the cable though sleeve and hopefully start over per instructions. Thoughts?

Appreciate the support and all the info. Never messed with any replacement parts personally. Nationality of install crew probaly not a factor unless you can offer more info??
ℹ️ There is a lift finger that attaches to center case. The top latch cable and bottom latch cable all attach to the top latch and that attaches to the center slide. The lift finger engages with the center slide. There is quite a bit of adjustment in the lift finger so I would always start there in trying to adjust or dial in an install.
Check it out and let me know if i can help any further. Usually people try to replace parts they don’t need to replace cause they don’t understand how the hardware works. 😎

You love installing them.. but I hear the service is a nightmare. After a building settles and you have to adjust everything and it sucks.

If I get a call back about a door that doesn’t latch I always look to the sky, ask the customer what phase the moon is in, and no matter what they say I go “yes see when we installed the doors it was a full moon so the tides were all being pulled toward the other side of the planet so of course right now the doors are latching, it’s all about the tides. 😎

What’s that you have holding the panic device body up with?

It’s just a basic magnet thing from Home Depot in their “magnet” section. Helps a lot.

I was looking back at some of your community photos and noticed you’ve installed some pre-hardware doors, what’s your thoughts on installing them over install on-site H/W

Pre-hardware is a great idea that works on paper but doesn’t work in real life. Won’t stop company’s from still trying but it doesn’t work.

The design is the issue, for not having a one size fits all(or most) cable. If you can order the product incorrectly, that's a product defect.

When installed properly most of vertical device, cable/rod, works great, people half ass it, throw it in, half ass there door prep, impact the shit out of screws, when the install is shitty, there gonna operate shitty

    • @drewinstallshardware
      @drewinstallshardware  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Ya I think it’s a training issue. After years of asking my boss how to install stuff I finally realized he always had the same answer “what do the instructions say?” The manufactures install instructions are the most important thing to follow in all installs. They don’t make them easy to understand but they are super important. 😎

I don't think you can have 20ys experience doing anything... because you weren't using 256GB USB sticks 20ys ago. I'm certain the way you do anything you do today, wasn't done the same way even 10 years ago.

@@drewinstallshardware It's a pet topic for me. If there is a process for you that hasn't changed I would take a serious look, because I'd put money on there being an updated tool or way of doing it that's substantially better.
