  • Joe Burrow’s rookie season ended with an injury, how can the Bengals protect him more in 2021?
    Ja’Marr Chase Scouting Report: • Why Ja’Marr Chase lets...
    This week’s film breakdown analyzes Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback Joe Burrow. Burrow’s rookie season had its ups and downs but unfortunately ended in a season-ending ACL injury in week 11. In many ways, the Bengals coach Zac Taylor did not set Burrow up to succeed, and by changing his own offensive philosophy, put Burrow in danger. Is there hope for the Bengals in 2021 and beyond with Burrow and Taylor? This episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback Joe Burrow.

I see you forgot to add him into the video. Arguably the most important addition this off season. Check the history books. Burrow will light it up this year once he shakes the rust.

    I think the Bengals have improved on the offensive line. Getting Riley Reiff was a quality signing. And drafting Jackson Carman and Trey Hill to rebuild the interior to go along with Trey Hopkins was great value. I don’t think the Bengals messed up by not drafting Sewell because the tackles were not the problem, it was the interior. Michael Jordan isn’t a starting caliber lineman, Billy Price is a certified bust, and Quinton Spain is clearly washed. Jackson Carman is most likely better off at guard, and Trey Hill is a VERY underrated player. He should compete with Spain for the right guard spot. Think I’m wrong? Go watch his tape against Derrick Brown. It’s damn impressive. I think they’ll be better on the offensive line, while Burrow gets his right hand man back. It’s a win-win.

    • @OSUFilm

      Not drafting Penei Sewell because you signed Riley Reiff to a one year contract (void year) is why bad teams stay bad

    • @christianpeterson2952
      @christianpeterson2952 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Riley Reiff on a 1 year contract shouldn’t stop you from drafting a franchise LT in Sewell or even Slater. Yeah you now have quality on the offensive line, but if you want to go empty like Taylor wanted to do early in the season last year (even with the dialing back they were still the team that used that formation type the most) the offensive line needs to be strength, and more importantly, the tackles need to be a strength. Riley Reiff and Jonah Williams isn’t a strength. You draft Sewell and he doesn’t perform as well as Reiff or Williams outside. That’s alright, he can be a very good swing tackle and you have enough depth to keep a talent like Sewell on the bench or he can be an all-pro level guard (something I don’t think Carman can be). Especially in a division with Myles Garrett, TJ Watt, and Baltimore, offensive line should always be a priority in that division. You could still build the interior later in the draft if you take a OT at 5 and you could’ve gotten Dyami Brown or Terrace Marshall (who is an LSU receiver with a connection to Burrow) in the second and then you turn the offensive line into a dominant one and you can run any type of formations or concepts you want

    IMO the Bengals didn’t do enough to solve the o-line like the Chiefs and Chargers, but they will be significantly improved. Their last o-line coach was regarded horribly by the league. Frank Pollack on the other hand is one of the best. Also their 2 weakest links Michael Jordan and Bobby Hart won’t touch the field. Quinton Spain and Riley Reiff are huge upgrades. No excuse, When your the 1st over pick QB you either show some promise and lead your team to the playoffs or your just another replacement like Bradford, Winston/mariota, and possibly kyler Murray. Cam, luck, wentz/Goff, and mayfield all got it done by year 3. Don’t give me that “joe has no help”. If he’s the real deal he’ll take the bengals to the next level. Right now, the bungals knows it’s already a 50/50 they sign joe after his rookie contract. He’s one injury away from possibly never seeing the field again. Cincy did a poor job by buying into the hype of burrow. If they had a brain they would of sign a veteran and let burrow learn especially after a one year wonder in college who had possibly the greatest wr duo ever in chase, Jefferson, and marshall. IF, and I’m pretty sure the bengals will be picking in the top ten for he next couple years, joe will be out of cincy and possibly become one of those good old TH-cam stories about “what if/has been”.

      Burrow is the real deal, but he's playing for the Bungals who for some odd reason refused to give Burrow any help whatsoever during his rookie year. This is suppose to be their franchise player but they are not setting him up for success. I don't know what is the agenda of Mike Brown, but winning isn't one of them. You are talking about the worst owner in NFL history.

    Bengals did draft Carman Jackson, the Left tackle out of Clemson that protected Trevor's blindside while he was there, in the second round.
    We also drafted 2 other solid linemen in the later rounds, also we signed Reiff in FA.
    We also fired our previous line coach, Turner and hired Frank Pollack which was definitely the biggest upgrade in terms of improving our oline.

I went to Lawrence County High School we played Giles County every year. He was a running back. And he did everything for his team. His level of talent was so far above everyone else on the field it is kind of humbling to see a guy like that was an above average NFL receiver. Guy was a freak of nature. One reason I couldn't stand watching Mike McCarthy's offensive scheme his last 5 years in Green Bay was because of the unbelievable frequency that the Packers offense was in 5 wide. 1st and 10? Yep. 2nd and 15? Yep. 2nd and 5? You bet! 3rd and 10? Most likely. 3rd and long? Count on it! 3rd and 2? "The defense will never see it coming!" 4th and... anything? Of course.
    The good offensive line covered for so much shit play calling.
    Dallas, Dakota Preacott, look out... The one thing you can count on McCarthy believing, AND believing more after his "self scout" is that the Highly Successful NFL Coach can only be correct. Any other view is so wrong it's insulting.

      Bengals signed OL, drafted an OL in the 2nd, and got a proven OL coach. If they kept their WR trio of Boyd, Higgins, then Tate that would be maybe the 25th best receiving corps in the NFL. Chase gives them a chance to be near the top instead of scraping the bottom.

  • @kevinmaltsberger3329
    @kevinmaltsberger3329 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is literally the most tired and lazy argument ever. Anyone who flatly states that the Bengals are trash for passing on Sewell is just showing how little they know about football and how much they watch espn. Why are they not trashing the Dolphins too? They picked a worst WR over Sewell and had a worst OLine than the bengals last year. And the bengals removed their two biggest liabilities from the starting lineup. When Burrow got hurt, they were on their backup to the backups in interior Oline. They added a 2nd rounder, who was projected by some to be the second best GUARD prospect in the draft and signed Reilly Reiff. They aren't world beaters, but they are remarkably better than they were at some points last year. And again, if you had actually watched the bengals, those were the two worst players on the Oine. Also, none of their receivers were getting separation. if you had watched entire bengals games, you would see Burrow had extremely tight windows to throw to, and Chase will be a huge help for that.
    Did you know that AJ Green got 104 targets last year and caught less than half of those? That is who Chase is replacing. Did everyone want to see the other Micheal Thomas getting 104 targets? Or Auden Tate? Those guys aren't NFL recievers. And we needed someone who could come in and play and contribute right away, which Chase can do and it's a much lower percentage on if a second rounder could do it, especially since a large majority of the 2nd round recievers were slot WRs, exactly what the Bengals already have. They needed a good X receiver. And now they got one.

      @alexhall9715 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@arcajeth626 that also is due to great qb play. I’m not disagreeing Sewell was the better pick, but it’s still too early to say if chase was a bad pick. Season hasn’t started yet. A lot of the time though, a great qb and receiving core can make an average oline look elite. Last I checked, the chiefs’ tackles weren’t all pro until Mahomes arrived. Not saying they weren’t good because they were, but they certainly weren’t making pro bowls every year. I’m obviously nervous heading into this season, but there’s a part of me that believes the bengals made the right long term decision in taking chase because he’s just too good of a prospect to pass up on. Sewell has a ton of potential, but there has not been a lot of Oregon prospects that have panned out in the league. Herbert is literally the exception to that rule right now. Honestly, the Bengals have done more for that line this off-season than any of the past 5 seasons. The way I see it, if they keep with this trend, the Bengals will have an electrifying offense either next year, or the year after that. Only time will tell though. I ain’t writing them off just yet for taking Chase over Sewell.

    Anyone saying "bengals are idiots" clearly pay no attention and their opinion should be acknowledged as nothing more than that of a "casual."
    Bengals have a good LT (Williams), a good center (Hopkins) and signed a decent RT in the offseason (reiff). They also have 1 decent guard (spain). Last year they had a HORRIBLE RT, williams got hurt at LT, the guard play was awful, and the o-line coach was incompetent and they fired him and brought in a good o-line coach. I wouldn't have minded Sewell at all, but I felt uneasy about selecting a generational tackle to play guard at 5 overall. Meanwhile, Bengals were last in the NFL in explosive plays last year. Higgins and Boyd are very good, but they arent amazing deep threats. Chase is an amazing deep threat and will solve the explosive play issue. People say, "It doEsnT mattER, hE wONt haVe TimE to thRoW." Except he will have more time this year, because they improved their o-line a LOT. Now they have a decent/average o-line, and a top 3-5 wr core. They draft Sewell, they still have an average o-line next year, and a mediocre wr core. I could go own for a lot more but I think most people who need to hear this dont have more than 10 brain cells.

      So they improved their line (which I actually agree with) but by drafting Sewell it'd still be average? Hardly logical. Plus, it seems a lot more likely that Williams would be the one kicking inside to play guard, not Sewell lol.. Possibly even Reiff tbh, because he's clearly the weakest option of the three in that theoretical scenario 🤷🏻‍♂️
      So.. Yes, they still improved the line and it seems many are overlooking the investments they made there simply because of the decision to draft Chase instead of Sewell.. But had they drafted Sewell it definitely significantly improves the OL, saying otherwise is absolutely ludicrous.
      Besides and lastly, I wouldn't necessarily call Higgins and Boyd "mediocre" either 😳🤯😅 but adding Chase to that certainly makes this a very scary group.

    I appreciate the leveled argumentation here, but absolutely everyone seems to be ignoring Riley Reiff. While he isn’t an All-Pro, he is *at least* average (and probably better than that). He’s a huge upgrade over Bobby Hart. The biggest failings of the line were on the constantly-injured interior from the likes of Michael Jordan and Billy Price. Those guys are not starting this season, and Penei Sewell isn’t a guard.

    The Ja'Marr Chase pick was one of the worst picks in the draft imo. Not because I don't think Chase is an incredible talent and can be a HoF player, but because Sewell was avaliable. Burrow was 14th in QB hits and 10th in sacks and his season ended in week 11. He would have been top five in both categories if he played the full season. If the Bengals continue to rely on the passing game as heavily as they did last year, then you can never have enough WRs, but the same group that failed to protect him last year is back again. Sewell isn't going to fix that but it would have been a much needed improvement and a step in the right direction.

    He'll be fine. Main problem they had was Michael Jordan was total dogshit and there wasn't really any depth at that position. Not to mention going from Turner back to Pollack is a monumental boost to the quality of their line. Dude's a 10000x better coach than Turner.

    tbh it wouldnt have been a mistake picking 5 Olinemen or 4 and a TE with their first 5 picks. No QB is good if they are injured. No qb is better than average if they are running for their life every play. Fix the damn Oline and you fix your QB and play calling.

    It's borderline criminal how they utilize Burrow, with way too many drop-backs (and no run game), and fail to protect him. They are ruining a gem of a QB. Same old Bungles. They never learn.

    As a Bengals fan I think Chase was 100% the better pick. Willie Anderson was working with Jackson Carman and he told Zach how much promise he has at guard. I think our o line will be fine, we replaced our two worst positions and if the line plays good I can see the bengals be a real threat in the AFC

    No, they aren't ruining joe burrow, they already have 2 starting caliber tackles, and drafting sewell would make it 3, and don't give me the move over to guard bs thats just gonna be the same situation, jackson carman has experience at guard.

    My guess as to why the bengals didn’t draft Sewell is just the strengths of the draft. The next one is a strong OL class while this one is a strong WR class. Now that doesn’t justify not taking a potentially generational tackle but it does make more sense that way.

    I mean. His knee got injured facing the number 1 pass defense in the league that they were moving the ball against WITH a patchwork O-line. But these are the types of stories people click on because the title fits the narrative they're used to hearin.

    This a poor agenda based video to make it seem like burrow will get crushed the bengals line is much better this upcoming season with a key receiver for the future. I can see us goin 9-8 WhoDey!! 🐅

    Most of the sacks were coverage sacks or came from Bobby hart and Micheal Jordan both of which are buried on the depth chart. Im not saying o line is fixed but when you have the chance to take a generational type WR talent...you do it. We drafted the best overall player in the draft class that has to be a W

    Shoot, I thought it was just the line that sucked. I pity those guys, everyone thinks they're bigger losers than they are, just because the coaches keep calling the LSU offense
