The golden rule with these "gas start" diesels is to cool them done before shutting them off so as to avoid thermal shock to the heads, especially in freezing conditions.
People either "idle down" the engine to cool it down before shutting it off or switch it back to gasoline for a few moments to help cool it down.

The TD-20 was introduced in 1958 not 1953 (200 Series)
The "gas start version" of the TD-20 was built thru to 1962 (201 Series)

I bought a td6 international for action it living it best life know wouldn't start on gas had a bad steer clutch all fixed fire's up on gas parked in my shop
