I came across this gorgeous dark blue #mercedes #amg GT on copra salvage auction with what appeared to be front end damage with the airbags deployed which seemed like a very doable repair. But when we went to collect it we very quickly realised this was not the case it was much much worse.
This #mercedesbenz has damage all over the entire car but also was hiding some secret damage underneath the bonnet which was the last thing I wanted to find...

Come on Chris, what you have achieved already in life, this build is a walk in the park. No negativety, full on positiverty. Engine good. Everything else is fixable or replaceable. Beautiful looking cars these. You've got great friends around you to pick you up and support you, like you've done with Mat. Just make sure you don't work long hours. That damaged front bar goonzquad are doing a similar build on their channel and they have managed to get hold of that same part from germany so check them out and see if they can put you in contact with the company they got it from
They said on their channel that you can’t buy it from the Mercedes dealer as it a structural part unless you are certified but there in America so not sure if the same thing applies for uk but good luck with the build man👍🏽

I was going to say the same thing, that bar is not too bad to replace, it doesn't need a jig if it's just that bar, not the chassis leg👍
I always find Mercedes Benz rude, currently have an a45 and the service I’ve had with them has been awful down south. Now I’ve got to the point I think I’ll get rid of my car just so I don’t have to deal with them

Definitely going to be another good unique build just like the X3M Chris. Keep your spirits up my man. Always remember at least you have the balls to venture projects like this. The rest of us just drool in envy from the side line. Can't wait for more of the X3M, would be a dream car for me and the Merc is on another level too. Looking forward to more videos on it, as it's something completely new and no one else is pulling one to bits.
I have been thinking to myself, why is no one fixing these on youtube. And finally, I found someone doing it. This is one of my dream cars as well.
There are some guys on TH-cam that are actually repairing the same car.
The front end of the car is messed up exactly in the same spot and I believe you will find the video useful for your build.

Hey Chris, just remember to keep the ballast boxes from the back of the headlamps if they are not damaged as you can re-fit them and not re-code the car. You and Ethan are an awesome team and what a great, great machine, and it is blue!!! I have been through all of this with an R172 SLK - rebuilt from the ground-up. I can't wait for the next video :)

No drama , worst parts are the roof and the dash jobs , the rest is no harder than what you have done before, but on a fabulous car!

Mercedes-Benz with Keyless feature, starts either with the key in the slot and you use only the key or the key needs to be out of it's slot and you use the push start button, it doesn't work using both at same time. I recommend that until the build is finished to use the key slot to start it, believe me.

I agree. . Especially the prices they go for.. seems very expensive when the car is bad.. lots of labour and parts.. definitely not cost effective solution... I'd say they are overpriced on the whole

Please up vote so Chris sees this. Hey Chris, check Goonzquad amg gt rebuild video. The one they posted 3 days back “Rebuild a wreaked Mercedes amg gts! Certified Mercedes tech hired” They replaced the same fender structural part that this car has broken. It’s around the 12 minutes mark. Hope it helps. I’m no expert, but looks pretty easy than other things you have done 😄 Keep your head high. Good luck !!

It's a decent project. Mercedes amg prices for parts may be steep, yet if it ends up costing less than buying a new one, it's still good!

With that front bar being bent and the roof cracked I'd get a tram gauge out to check it's not tweaked the chassis at all
They are not dents on the a pillars. That is the a pillars deforming. That should not be put back on the road
The outside it just a shell like the rest of the car the inside is the strengthened part of that was damaged you would see the car all out of shape

Parts are cheaper for you in the UK but I’m rebuilding an AMG at the minute and let me tell you, I understand estimated costs of parts/replacements… it’s adding up lol. I’m in Australia
I think the reason when you started it is like my Audi Q7 if the key is in the ignition the start button doesn’t work, as long as the key is in the car, but not in the ignition the start button will work,
this is a crazy advanced project! mat armstrong levels!!! tons of engineering to do!

This aluminium part is quite easy to replace if you can get it. Since It's aluminium It's bends quite easily.

I’ve been watching Goonz squad and there are repairing the same car with almost the same damage. Most of the parts are available only from Germany 🇩🇪 👍🏻

Goonzquad have one of these at the mo ,that panel along by tbe front wing is replaceable and a small weld.

The salvage market has absolutely bloomed. There are few bargains to be had, especially in the high-performance area as TH-camrs are buying up the wrecked cars doing them up and losing money on them. The only reason this is a business model for them is that they can put the videos on TH-cam and make money from them. Otherwise all they achieved is driving up the price of cars for anyone else who wants to do this without putting it on a TH-cam channel. Personally it doesn’t impact me, but it is a dynamic Ive observed since Covid.

been as youve got to replace most body panels maybe you could put a blackseries inspired kit and for the roof a carbon fibre one
Copart offer a video call service for £10 to allow you to inspect a car in more detail. Don’t understand why people don’t use it especially on cars with damage like this …

You can fix it get the piece removed spot welds and a aluminum welder your giving up before you start why can't you inspect the cars in Copart we can here in the States .
