The funny thing about Werewolf Skin is it is pretty accurate to the source material. The full moon thing is a more modern invention of werewolf mythology, back in the olden days it was said a person could turn into a werewolf whenever they wished using an enchanted wolf skin or garments such as a belt or tunic made of wolf skin. I'm very impressed about how R.L. Stine basically came full circle with the werewolf mythos. As for why what's her name wanting to get rid of the werewolves is simple; she wanted their territory just like conflict with unrelated real wolves.

It's on a TH-cam talk show called The Running Late show. Some guys were interviewing him and he was asked if he'd rather hear your thoughts on Werewolf Skin or Cried Monster. He chose the second one and liked the idea of his books being gateway books.

There isn't a day that goes by that I wish I had the powers of some of my favorite cartoon characters ( heck, even this so-called "Level Booster" from this manga I recently found would do it)just so I can give that moron such a beating! How about you?

Ahh Goosebumps. I adored that series. I also vaguely remember the grumblings of parents. But by the time I was in grade 2 they were already being used for "reading homework." And there was always a huge stack of them whenever we had classroom reading until at least year 6. I remember they usually had the choose your own adventure series.
My favorites were Day at Horrorland and The Haunted Mask. I also remember this one, can't remember the name, where this kid turns into a bee and it really freaked me out lol
But I slightly prefer Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids personally.

I did get the most chills from the haunted mask, especially the episode. Just the way Carly Beth becomes more and more psychotic and two other really creepy moments, but I won't spoil them for anyone.

"And possibly a Goosebumps Movie coming out"
And it only took em' three years! Give the movie industry some credit, thats pretty fast!

    • @cannibalisticrequiem
      @cannibalisticrequiem 4 ปีที่แล้ว

This video was originally uploaded back in 2010. So it was FIVE years before the Goosebumps movie came out. Possibly even longer, as a Goosebumps movie was in talks long before then (2000 at the earliest, if not during the late 90s). Hollywood doesn't do anything fast! I still remember whispers of a DBZ movie Hollywood wanted to make among the pre-internet anime spaces between 1998 - 2000. At the time the talk was that the DBZ movie would be directed by the Wachowskis because The Matrix was the new hotness at the time, and had a similar tone to what DBZ fans wanted for a movie at the time, and further speculation that it was going to have pretty boy A-listers like Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Keanu Reeves as some of the leads in the movie. Even though years later, the actual Dragon Ball movie we got was nothing like the initial rumors, the point is that the anticipation for a Hollywood adaptation of a beloved intellectual property will exist in some form long before it actually happens. I remember when IMDb was in its early years, and the toxic dumpster fire that was their message board was still open, people were talking about a Mary Poppins sequel or remake happening and reeeeeeeaaaaaally wanting Johnny Depp to play Bert or Bert 2.0 for a sequel, long before the version we got with Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

its pretty much the only goosebumps book I know of that has this iconic moment from the opening of the show. not only that, as you go along you find the pages scattered around twisted tree lodge and they seem to predict everything thats going to happen to you. its your choice whether or not you take its advice or find a better way to solve your problems. plus one of its endings is actually very satisfying.

I used to always get Goosebumps books out of my school library, which was seen as weird because I was a girl but I loved them. They scared me, enthralled me and always had me wanting to find newer Goosebumps books every time I went. I'm 19 and planning to become a teacher and when I do; I don't care how much it would cost me, I'm going to make sure there are Goosebumps books in my classroom so my students can enjoy them too

I thought of this video when I read about how some of the werewolf myth derives from Viking berserkers, men who'd wear the skin of an animal to inherent its strength. Wolf skins were a popular one. As a result, many werewolf (or werebear) stories involved wearing the skin.

  • @annegriswold2116

I always liked #12 I read the book as well as saw the tv episode when they aired it.
    *Spoiler alert*
Its true he activated the mentioned magic by his father who also said the man he bought it from said it existed. And he went back in time managing to fix it so he didn't go so far back in time that he would cease to exist. There was also a mention of a flaw in the clock that's revealed towards the end. The flaw is the clock also lists the years, the year his sister would have been born is missing thus why she was never born. It always made me wonder if it was possible for him to even go back and get her if by first activating the clock it caused her to not exist is the first place.

Half of those books besides Goosebumps are not that bad, I like fear street and nightmare room. But right now R.L. Stine is losing his touch I mean he was king of children's horror now with these new R.L. Stine shows and the movie they do not have his mojo for some weird reason. I mean they feel dumb down and stupid looking like one of those crappy Halloween decorations of a goofy and happy going monster that looks mostly silly than scary. When I was a kid seeing they were scary, but in a good way it is good to have kids be a little scared cause than they know how to face it as they get older. If you surpass and shield from everything how they will face it as they get older?

This was a great list, it brought back so much nostalgia for me! I'm only 16, so I read these books back when they were getting reprinted for the second or third time, and they were awesome, some of my favorite childhood literature. One of my personal favorites, and the first one that I ever read, is "How I got my Shrunken Head", where the kid goes to the jungle surrounded by shrunken heads and has to stop two scientists who are using dark magic. Another one that I really enjoyed, which I also feel is overlooked, is "You Cant Scare Me", where two boys try to scare a girl by dressing up as mud monsters, only to be met with actual mud monsters during their prank. And I agree the people below me, "The Werewolf of Fever Swamp" is my all time favorite too. Again, great list, and thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Basic plot to book #1: Wilson and Jake are always competing with each other, Jake hates it because he isn't a competitive person and Wilson is one of those school kids who has to do anything Jake and do, but better for example when both of them were at Mai's birthday party
Jake got Mai the new album of her favorite band Wilson got her tickets,
Jake eats a hotdog in under 10 seconds Wilson did it in 5,
Finally Jake can't take it anymore and he runs off and finds the flying potion, he thinks that he will finally able to do something that Wilson can't do and he hopes it will shut him up. However Wilson finds the potion to, and beats Jake in a race that the whole town sees, so now they are constantly being hounded by the army and Paparazzi. Sick of not being able to be a normal kid anymore Jake lies that the potion has stopped working.

the tracy reference at the end was the best part. the thing about goosebumps is more often then not the kids are average not normal but extremely average and the parents are always your typical 90s suburban parents. but damn they were awesome books..

I'm not sure what that song is called, but I recognize it as the song that plays in the beginning of shawn of the dead.

My favorite has always been the beast from the east.
I've always had a hard time at libraries growing up for them having that specific one to read.

Ah, I love watching this around Halloween time, or when ever I get nostalgic. I still think you should do another Goosebumps video CR. Maybe of other books that didn't make the list but you enjoyed reading, or perhaps a video of your audience's favorite books. Maybe a video of your favorite episodes from the old Goosebumps show (not The Hub's The Haunting Hour)? How about a CR Let's Play for Halloween of CarnEvil?

In the graphic novel of "Night of the Living Dummy" it's indicated that the soul of Mr.Wood, after he was destroied, possessed the Slappy dummy.

you know, I can think of another "give yourself goosebumps" book that was actually pretty good, and I'm kind of disappointed that it didn't get mentioned. it's called "the werewolf of twisted tree lodge" and in it, you win a horror story contest for a story you didn't write that had something to do with werewolves. your prize is a trip to a place called twisted tree lodge. while there you see a man in black walking with a bag full of papers that go flying in the wind... sound familiar?

Damn, almost a decade and a different account ago since I commented this.
The replies aren’t even connected to it anymore for some reason.
Honestly, this is still my favorite of the Give Yourself Goosebumps books.
If you go in Twisted Tree Lodge, you find out the contest itself is a trap for horror writers set up by horror monsters.
There’s also a point where you’re being chased by the man in black and one of the papers says “to the left is death, to the right is safety.”
If you go left, you get killed by zombies.
If you go right, you run into the man in black who says “Did you really think you could escape me by following the manuscript? I wrote the manuscript!”
The correct path is just to keep going forward.

Another one I find interesting and still own is All-Day Nightmare.
It has a really creepy start where you wake up from a horrible nightmare, alone in a dark house with no memory of who you are or why you’re there, and you hear someone knocking at the door, presumably there to kill you.
It’s such a brilliant and strong start that it’s a shame it’s all downhill from there.
Every ending tries to explain why you’re there, why you have amnesia, and what the nightmares were, but a vast majority of the explanations are incredibly stupid.
