NAM @ 2:47 PMaster @ 3:21 Noise to signal ratio makes the difference, if you use a decent noise gate and Adjust the eq before you upload it inside the pocket then it will match. Don't ask too much for a $60-$70 IR and capture loader, if you really want something better and will give you confidence live. Get a NDSP nano or something.
@@kel5944 pocket master is stereo, ping pong delays, stereo Chorus, and what really impressed me is the stereo tremolo. Incredible. You can also move effects in the signal chain, which is why I chose the pocket master.
It sounds amazing! It has now replaced my Tone X One. I have a second one on order so I can run all amp captures and can the IR block and wet FX on the second unit. MIDI is also in the works so you can control it with the Chocolate
hey, thanks for the video. I've been 'survailing' this one for a while now. But i'll wait for the MIDI implementation. I hope you make another video when they do that update. Are you able to tell me what are the different meters for the drum/metronome? I am looking for odd stuff... like 5/8 , 7/8 .. 11/8 . thanks again
@ How did you do the comparison. Are they both using the same audio interface or both direct to DAW? This isnt a very good comparison. Because I know this thing sounds as good as Tone X. I also get this is live rig verses a PC Plug. People have to realize this is not even close to a fair comparison
@ To do this right you need to send both signals to a speaker dial them in to match then bring the signal back to an audio device that both run that get equal processing treatment. All you did here was show that the audio interface isnt the same. But also this is a MFX unit so its adding things. I bet you can dial this in better to sound the same.
DAC will absolutely not explain the tonal difference. As someone has pointed out, the device seems to run at 44.1Khz, but most captures are for 48Khz. The "darker" tone is a result of running the model at a lower samplerate.
This is true! And of course I didn't tweak EQ. So it would be possible to try to match better the EQ Curve, but even tho, there is still differences in the compression level! Cheers mate!
@@RiffsRigs It's going to have bigger problems than just EQ difference. More aliasing, and generally the model just won't behave as expected. If you're using full-rig models with cab included, the peaks and valleys int he cabinet response will be at the wrong frequencies. You can't fix that with an EQ. The question is; does the processor in the unit still have enough CPU cycles left over to perform the samplerate conversion necessary to correct this? :)
When you set it up as an interface did you make audio adjustments inside the Pocket Master. As there is a menu specific for this. Im wonding if your were clipping?
I noticed an issue with the EQ profile between your A/B test. It looks like the Pocket Master is not accounting for the 48khz vs 44.1khz difference between the NAM profile and the devices internal sample rate. Hopefully the developer can account for that and fix the math. I have pictures of my findings in the original Neural Amp Modeler facebook group in your post about this vide. Very excited to see NAM working in such a small and inexpensive device! I hope they can solve the tonal differences issue.
@ Oh, this wasnt a user error thing. This is a math issue with the programming. There is a difference in sample rate and its affecting the way the NAM model gets interpreted. This happened to the earlier version of Steve Atkinsons NAM plugin, as well. When you lower the sample rate, it lowers the EQ profile so a NAM capture made at 48khz sounds "darker" when played through a 44.1khz system that doesnt correct for the sample rate difference. Im hoping the developer is able to adjust for this.
Valeton GP-5 runs NAM captures too! So HoTone will probably have it soon too! I wish sonicake would uodate their older hardware like original matribox to run NAMs too
I wonder what the internal sample rate is on the GP-5. If its 48khz it will automatically sound more correct than this device due to the math error in the sample rate difference (48khz NAM mode VS 44.1khz sample rate in this device).
Hell it sounds better than the PC player LOL. There are otherthings going on adding more flavors with the FX chain. Plus you can EQ it to match the PC app
Now they need to add this feature to the larger units like the Matribox!
I believe the MB2Pro should be the next!!
looks fun and something to just keep out all the time on the desk

He never EQ it or calibrated the unit to the NAM plug in.
Great news!! Thank you. I bought it before 1 week 🙂
Mines supposed to be delivered tomorrow 🎉
The m-vave black box still seems better to me, but I welcome the competition in this price range.
blackbox has no stereo effects, so...
What do you find the m-vave blackbox better?

@@jasonzdora I think andertons website says 44.1 unfortunately. I had this problem on Nam in logic 44.1 projects in the early days.
Since it limits options when you use nam files, I wonder if it has the processing power to handle adding midi on top of that.
