- This was my first performance with the band "1814" from New Zealand. Felt pretty cool to be on stage with them smashing out songs that I've thrashed for many years as a fan!! Big ups to 1814 to allow me to share the stage with them. If you're unfamiliar with the band they have a big following here in New Zealand amongst the reggae community. Here's a couple of songs that we jammed on the night.
1) Jah Rastafari
2) Ring Of Fire
3) My Dear Friend
4) Morning Star
Venue: Kalah Bar, Ngongotaha, Rotorua
Date: 2nd November 2013

@Travis Dearden, Jimmy Colbert was the name of the old bass player and he's an absolute beast!! His basslines were a such a BIG part of the bands sound like you said. Jimmy left for personal reasons unfortunately. He's a good friend so I was really lucky to have him teach me some stuff when he heard I was gonna fill in for him. The dude somehow crams ghost notes, harmonics, chords, dohble stops, slides, etc..... into his songs - he's insane!
Actually this bands old bass player is a hard out funk fan so his lines and tone are centered around that. For me I had both pick ups on, tone was wound to max (no treble roll off), with some Bass and Treble boost for typical mid scoop slap sound. This band likes the bass clear and balanced across the whole board - unconventional for a reggae band normally but its what this band wants and I like it too. Id rather have each note ring clear, hate when I hear only thud and mud in other bands.
Sick bro. What's your tone for the reggae stuff? neck pickup and tone off?
Chur bro love your skills just wondering what sort of bass you use?tone on max both pickups wound up?jazz?
+therad riley Chur bro, thanks for the message. This is my Sadowsky MV5 bass. I normally favour the bridge pick up slightly and have a slight boost of bass on treble on the bass. Thats my normal settings so Im guessing this would of been close to what it was on this night. Cheers!
Yer bro, those lights at 2:28 were mean as! haha
2:28 min. Boom lol
