    OMG, a dual band DMR at that price! I really need to check out your other videos about that product. That seems a killer product I've been waiting for quite some time. 73

    Hi Lewis. Got one of these on the way at the moment, interesting test and I think the audio is nicer on analogue but keen to dip my toes for the first time into DMR. Got my ID so all good to go when I can get my head around it.

    I very recently got my hands on a DMR radio and I'm not quite sure what I think to it to be honest. Putting aside the fact that you can use the DMR network over the internet and easily speak to repeaters/hotspots in other countries, when it comes to local coms I think I prefer FM. the audio has so much more fidelity and you can tell when the signal is dropping and generally still hear what the other person is saying.

      I have to agree and it's the same with DAB broadcast radio, I get crap reception at times an I'm only 2 miles from my local transmitter.

    I dunno if it’s the radios being too close to mouths or the accents but everything sounded unintelligible over the radios.

    Great test. The audio quality of DMR does have to be accquired but can't beat FM. An end of message beep on DMR would be nice as there is now squelch tail.
    Can you demo the recording feature especially playback on the 1701 please? Thanks.

    Cheap microphones and DMR can cause problems. I have a Baofeng mic which is fine on FM but on DMR is unusable as it's not adequately shielded and gives a " motorboat" effect on transmission. . interesting video but have to admit FM is much easier to listen to than DMR.

    At this time they current radios are not capable if those frequencies. They are however capable of jumping onto the internet with a device that costs about $ 100.00 called a hotspot. Therefore they can communicate worldwide.

    Hi there and thank you for your video, I'm going to ask you what maybe considered a stupid question only because I'm curious and I don't know, can I used this to let's say communicate with my wife if she's home and I'm two miles away, have it set up for private communication just between us?

    • @a.k.3659
      @a.k.3659 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the ham radio frequencies, also known as amateur radio frequencies, are allocated by governments for use by licensed amateur radio operators. These frequencies should only be used for non-commercial purposes, such as personal experimentation, communication with other amateur radio operators, and providing emergency communications during disasters.
      That being said while it is true that amateur radio frequencies should be used primarily for non-commercial purposes and providing emergency communications there is usually some room for informal conversation and "chit-chat" among amateur radio operators. But you and your wife should first pass the exam and gain a license to operate these radios.
      They are not little motorola walkie talkies in PMR 446 frequencies!
      These are regulated and in some countries (eg in Greece where I live) if police see you holding one of these without license and a good reason they will take you in prison (αυτόφωρο αδίκημα) asap.

    i have a set of DRM radios that do analog as well (nice updated pair of TYT's as well as a few older ones) and i find that DRM link quality and sound quality is amazing but analog is lacking vs even a cheap pair of dedicated analog radios. like UV-5R. in fact when we go riding offroad moved bkc to UV-5R's because during worst case scenarios (we had a couple) where we lost someone and they calling for help, much easier time finding a analog repeater to key into and listen out for.. we had someone lost control (said his front brakes don't grab enough) and flew off the hill and crashed, we didn't notice because he was 2 minutes behind us catching up after taking a wiz.. he failed to connect with us down there but hit the repeater which lit us all up and we came back to help him. if we suck using DMR radios i dont think would been any connection to be had at all.. wouldn't taken a good while if no connection from him, specially cuz rain storm comign and trials turn to slick soup.

    radio but can't upload the user contact database.

    Never really seen the attraction if youre not using encryption.
    The lack of any single 'standard' hasnt done DV any favours either.
