Hello my loves! So I wanted to create this video - as you know, I buy and sell handbags so I'm maybe more picky when it comes to caring for them than most! haha. Anyway, hoping there is something in here that can help those of you who want to care for your shoes or bags - and if any of you have any superficial damage you are wanting to fix. Any questions, let me know and I'll try my upmost to help :) Have a great week everyone! xxx
itsmariett jor in South African you can buy disposable ones they look like little plastic boxes with the little small balls on the bottom which absorb moisture and once they fill you just empty the liquid and dispose of the box.
Invest in a liquid or cream leather conditioner. Check your ingredients but in the US that Kiwi Express Shine is full of silicone. Over time this is NOT good for your leather. Run some waxed paper over the zipper tread to keep it working smoothly. Do not store your bags near air vents for either central heat or central air as this will also dry out the leather. I have been collecting designer bags for over 30 years and have many 20+year old bags that are still beautiful and I still carry.
Karen .c.h Gee, thanks for the tips! I have a very modest collection of quality bags and shoes (Coach, Ferragamo, LV) and I appreciate every bit of wisdom going to maintain my investment.
Mimi Nwabuoku small or large collection you spent good money on your things. I'm glad you found my suggestions helpful. . I also own all 3 of those brands plus a few more. Ferragamo makes lovely leathergoods and scarves. I feel they are a brand that gets overlooked these days.
I have a couple of these cube shelving units that I use for bags and shoes too. Love your tips! I feel like I need to go check my bags to see if they need to be cleaned. ❤️
This is one of the reasons I love your videos. It's so nice to have these tips on keeping designer bags still beautiful. I especially liked the video where you spoke about the different materials the Chanel bags comes in & which ones scratches easily (Lambskin). That type of info helps alot if & whenever one want to buy such an expensive bag as it is an investment & you do not want to make a bad choice after saving up perhaps years to purchase one.
Thanks for your tips. I just bought my first designer handbag two weeks ago. It ist the Saint Laurent Loulou in medium with silver hardware. I love this bag. Greetings from Germany Christina
Thank you for this video. When I moved from the U.K. Back to South Africa in the hottest most humid climate of SA my bags I kept in their dust bags and with little portable du humidity boxes in each cupboard. The damage was already done and about 5 to 6 bags I had to throw away as the patent started to peel. I could have cried as these were not super high end bags but certainly if I put all the bags which I threw away I could have bought a LV or something nicer. Now I am freaked out with my LV wallet and bag which I got as limited edition after this video, as it cost me fortune and I keep it on the display shelf in the boxes!! So I must make a plan to follow your suggestions and take the bag to air once a week or something . I love your videos ! Thank you Sophie
This was a well done video, it covered many points and great suggestions as well. Whilst I don't have even half of the bag collection you have, it is nice to be able to store them so they are visible and you can switch them over easily. Oh and when you store them in a visible way, you can actually see how many you actually have. I only just recently brought all my bags out and realized I have many more than I thought I did! Thanks for the video.
Your brown hair is gorgeous! It’s much more flattering on you than other shades I’ve seen you wear (in other videos). Although, you are very beautiful no matter what color your hair is.
I have a white vernis brea and right after you finished explaining about the handle red glazing transferring, I paused the video and ran to mine and checked!! Omg I saw a very tiny sliver of orange...lol I had caught it just in time thanks to you. Thank you for the tips!!!
Hey Sophie! Use silk paper, it's in my opinion the best one to not only stuff your bags but also protect the handles, chains etc... When you get a bag, they usually wrap it in its silk paper so never throw them away and keep them for storage/protection ;) I personally prefer to keep my bags in their dustbags (esp if it's made of coton, so it's breathable)
Very informative video. Straight to the point. Love your work and all the effort you put into it. Thank you, Sophie💕 greetings from a Polish girl in Ireland 😘
hermes uses plastic air pocket stuffing with their bags + i've always used and had no problems and live in humid area.....the only bag i ever had issue with is vernis from LV and i will never buy patent again! a black smudge mark appeared and i tried to rub it off with a cloth and no go, live + learn! i would def not put any air bags near/inside patent/vernis but other leathers have been ok for me!
Hi sophie! can you please make a video on how you pack your luxury handbags and shoes in your suitcase/luggage for travel? I have the ysl large black bag the one gigi hadid wore, the black medium antigona, the chloe drew,1 pair of so kates, 1 pair of the valentino rockstud, gucci belt and a balmain blazer. i couldn't find any videos.. the issue is the heels can dig into the bags and the bags can get their shape crushed.i have the neverfull, but i usually travel with that one.
Thank you for such an informative video! I would store my bags in dust bags and in the cardboard bag I bought them in. 😀 Now I store my bags like yours...and you get to see them in all their beauty. Thanks Sophie!
Great video and yes these leather, exoctic skins etc are organic and do need air. I condition my bags which many are over 50 years old including alligator skin once a year.. In the US they do sell at Nordstrom stores in the handbag dept. creams to clean and condition leather and exoctic skins. You have to be care with what use use on bags. No baby wipes even without alcohol.
Discovered your channel in December and love your videos. You've inspired me to go to Ikea and get a similar storage cubicle but in a light wood colour. Proud to say I've succesfully assembled it today and it looks amazing. Thank you for the inspiration!
Great quality video! You definitely pointed out some mistakes Im making (I leave all my bags in their dustbins thinking that will keep them in great shame). Also love the idea of a dehumidifier!
This is a real coincidence as I've been looking for bag storage videos this evening. I don't own a collection like yours, but I still want to look after it. I thought I was clever in using the air pocket type packaging in bags, but I guess this could hold on to moisture just like bubble wrap. A complete rethink is needed! Could I also ask a question in how you would clean a black bag that has ecru/white stitching on it please? This is an older bag and I'm looking at things differently with more recent purchases, as per your advice. Thank you for everything you do!
I absolutely love your videos Sophie! 💗You are so knowledgeable in the fashion arena as I'm sure you are in your day to day work. I don't have many luxury bags at all but I will one day & I think these ideas would also work with every day hand bags in keeping them nice. Love the storage shelving idea so much! I need to do this as well. Keep em coming sweet lady!🤗hugs!
Hi Sophie, thanks for sharing these useful tips. I too made the mistake of keeping my bags in their dustbags AND in a ziplock bag. Needless to say, they came out smelling musty and I had to spend more money getting them cleaned at a bag spa. I’ve started storing them out on shelves, but my question is, how do you keep your many bags dustfree?
My bags are all mulberry ( older ones when the quality was still high!) I use collonil products to clean, moisturise and protect them- carbon pro spray in particular is genius, as it protects from moisture and colour transfer . I make pillow stuffers for my bags from the cushion inserts from wilko (£1 a pop) which I cut down to size for each bag. I use the makeup brush shields ( the stretchy net types ) on any tassels to keep them in God shake when not in use. Another thing is to consider whether you need to add your bags to your household contents insurance: nome of my bags are worth enough to make this necessary but I would imagine Chanel and Dior may need to be listed individually.
Loved the video 💕 Quick question, tho. Doesn't keeping your bags out in the open, on such shelves, make them become dusty? Like after a month or two, don't they get a layer of dust on them? Or do you make sure to wipe them as well, when having the dusting done?
Doesn’t it also make them very vulnerable to fires and burglary? I wouldn’t want to leave my expensive items out in the open and so easily accessible just in case someone breaks in
Great video, Sophie! Very informative - love learning tips / tricks and pitfalls to avoid! I am a fan of the Lovin' My Bags line so I can baby my bags. I've also used them to restore a few pre-loved vintage Louis Vuitton bags and they cleaned up great. It pays to invest in a few basic things to keep them looking beautiful!
Spot on Sophie with your video, a lot of experience, common sense and lessons learnt. Well worth a watch. The Kiwi Express shine is a NO NO the lambskin will absorb that like a sponge and as you said you may get oil blobs due to too much (why risk it?). You are better of with Luxdr
Hi, Sophie. I loved this helpful vlog because I love my handbags so much. By the way, we had a son deployed in Qatar and then I watched your video about your life and it was the second time I heard about Qatar. I started to feel a little better about this unknown place. Thank you. From a subscriber in Maine.
I don't live in Qatar, but very close to it. Qataris are generally very good people and most of the expats I know who live there really like it! Good luck to your son, I hope his deployment ends soon and safely. :)
So many useful tips, thank you Sophie! I'd love you to make the same video for clothing storage (how to take care of expensive pieces of clothing, how to keep my white clothing white, etc.. it would be the most useful thing ever!!) Cheers from France, take care xx
Hi Sophie, great video as always! May I as what is the problem with air bubble stuffing? I use it, never had issues nor did I hear anyone else saying not to use it...
Wow! I have the same exact pear shaped ring, that Gucci with the hearts, the Chanel BOY, Channel Classic Flap, and the same LV Artsy as you! Great taste! But I was thinking about selling the Gucci and Artsy.
Thank you for this vid it was very informative, as I have been keeping my leather bags in their dust bags and clear plastic bags. Thank God they are all still in very good condition, but maybe had I not seen this vid my bags would eventually be damaged. I have also shared this vid with my sister as she has recently brought storage shelving for her bags.👍👌👜👛
Thank you for the advice, Sophie 👌🏻💕 I need to check out my collection to see if i need to clean anything and that nothing is stored in their boxes 😬 But first sleep 😴 Good night 💕
I had a leather purse that at the time was very expensive. I cleaned it with leather cleaner and now it has a yellow tinge to it. The leather was purple. Thanks for your tips!
Hello Sophie! I am a relatively new subscriber. This is such a useful video! Thank you for sharing all these care tips with us. I absolutely love your videos. Love and blessings! Ana from Florida.
Hi Sophie, I just came across this older video of yours, thank you, I have an extremely expensive bag collection and have been storing them in their dust bags, totally improper!!! Also, I have been going back and forth with a Chanel associate in Vancouver, Canada about a vintage Chanel classic flap that I adore. I have noticed this past year that the lovely black hue of the bag has been turning a brownish hue and I’m not thrilled at all about this. He has said that Chanel will not do any repairs on it as it is just aging leather. My question for you would be, do you think I can use that sponges type conditioner thingy with a blackish colour on the bag to maybe, restore the colour slightly? Thank you so much for answering this for me. I have just purchased the Chanel cruise 2020 in black because of the one you showed us, I believe the 2019. I love it, thank you so much!!. Xo Carolyn
Hi Sophie some great tips there, some I had not even thought of, so thanks for that, it's very helpful .I have the same display unit from ikea it's great xx
I wish I watched this vid a month ago. I recently opened up the dust bag for my Antigona, it was covered in mildew 😢😬😬😢😢 It's my first and only designer bag and I nearly had a heart attack! Thankfully I caught it in time and it's almost as good as new. I live in the tropics and have definitely learnt my lesson. Thanks for this video Sophie xxx
Sophie thank you so much for getting back to me !!Yesterday I was beside myself!! Let me no how I can email you !!I will try anything my bag is ruined!!!But a little hope !!! I love your posts have been following sometime now !!! Just lovely ☘️☘️
Thank you for an informativ video. You said you used to stuff the bags with air paper and it was the worst thing. However, you stopped there and didn’t say why. Since many people recommend air paper, I’d love if you could say why you believe air paper is bag as stuffing. (P.s. if anything changed in the way you’re storing you bags, an update video would be great!). :)
Dear Sophie, thank you for your priceless tips ;) Would you share where do you sell your bags? Which website do you recommend for second hand luxury bags? :) Thanks xxx
I just bought the Milo Medium Leather & Suede Tote to use as a daily laptop bag. I'd like to treat it for waterproofing and general protection. What you you recommend? Do you waterproof your new leather bags?
I paused the video to go and take out all my slg's out of their yellow bags and left them on my shelf to breathe..thank you so much did this very important info..I saw a while the youtuber Mimi also had her l V wallet the seams was coming apart due to her keeping them in the original dust bag
Do you have any ideas what I could stuff my Louis Vuitton speedy with? At the minute I have towels in it however my parents keep asking for them back 😂😂 don't want to fold it back flat as it gets fold marks in it
I plan on buying the Alma bb damier ebene very soon, so do you have to be so careful with it also when storing? I will def wrap the handles for sure. It’ll be first designer bag & probably my only one so I wanna take care of it

Sophie Shohet | Fashion Beauty Lifestyle Tks for the info! You have a great week as well love!😍😍

and you my darling! Xx😘😘
Wish I've known about the de-humidifier before. I had to throw a LV bag out, because of mold. Im def buying one now. Thanks Sophie for the great tip.
Also another hint is to remember to clean the de-humidifier so they don't get moldie and gunkie!😊
itsmariett jor in South African you can buy disposable ones they look like little plastic boxes with the little small balls on the bottom which absorb moisture and once they fill you just empty the liquid and dispose of the box.
Luxury orientated channel but with quality content and things to learn from, not only promoting splurge and never ending shopping, love it!
I second that! :)
I have one designer bag because of you Sophie, and you have NO idea how helpful this video is!!

can you share the names of the conditioners?
Victoria Ivanova there are several excellent conditioners out there. The one I prefer is by Cadillac Leather Lotion.
Karen .c.h do you have a suggestion about pathent bags, my lady dior gray pathent has oxidized and color is like reddish on some parts
This is such a lovely video for someone who wants to keep their bags beautiful for as long as they can💕
Thank you so much Carly, and too for watching :) xxx
First job tomorrow, take bags out of boxes, clean and store them properly. Thanks for the advise Sophie, love your channel.

You would never have thought things like this would have happened! Wow. & the polishing! Holy crap, these are some good tips! 👌🏼
I literally store all my bags in their dust bag and box. Right now going to re do everything. Thank you Sophie for saving me. Xoxo, Jenessa
I just finished my first year of uni! I'm really inspired by you and hope to have my life follow your path. Much love from AZ 🌵💙 thank you!!

Very informative video. Straight to the point. Love your work and all the effort you put into it. Thank you, Sophie💕 greetings from a Polish girl in Ireland 😘
It's nice that you teach taking care of and respecting your investment
I now know to keep the bag's stuffing (that came with the bag) and I use the dust bags as well. I advise people to keep the bag's original stuffing.
hermes uses plastic air pocket stuffing with their bags + i've always used and had no problems and live in humid area.....the only bag i ever had issue with is vernis from LV and i will never buy patent again! a black smudge mark appeared and i tried to rub it off with a cloth and no go, live + learn! i would def not put any air bags near/inside patent/vernis but other leathers have been ok for me!
It's paper stuffing that I meant. Thanks for your reply.

Brilliant hints Sophie !!Just little bits of information that helps!!!Thank u my friend !!! Your the best ❤️☘️☘️

Do you keep the packaging boxes for resale ? If so where / how do you store those ?
TY for the tip on the slgs (using the flannel as dividers)!
But I was thinking about selling the Gucci and Artsy.
and the bb great taste

But first sleep 😴
Good night 💕
This was super helpful! I have been doing so many things wrong arghhhh. Thanks for pointing them out!
Great info! You said bubble wrap is bad what happened? I really love watching your youtubes.
Have you done a video on how you go about selling your bags?
Hi Sophie, I just came across this older video of yours, thank you, I have an extremely expensive bag collection and have been storing them in their dust bags, totally improper!!! Also, I have been going back and forth with a Chanel associate in Vancouver, Canada about a vintage Chanel classic flap that I adore. I have noticed this past year that the lovely black hue of the bag has been turning a brownish hue and I’m not thrilled at all about this. He has said that Chanel will not do any repairs on it as it is just aging leather. I love the Lady Dior color 😍 thanks for your advises it was a very informative video.
Tolulope Awoyinfa did you only stored it in the dust bag? Or also in the box?
Just dust bag @hunniesbunchies020405
Hunniebunches020405 hi it was just the dust bag
Oh, Thank You Sophie!!! I didn't even know I was actually making some of those mistakes. thank you for the info
I'm going to try the Kiwi clear on my Chanel navy WOC. The corners look a bit worn, even though I don't use it often. I'll test first though.
I love that necklace 😍😍
Hi Sophie, soooo useful! Thank you for this great idea of sharing this information. Love your videos, good luck 🍀
eyebrows look fantastic Sophie!
Excellent video! I need this info. Do you have suggestions about avoiding the metal tarnishing?
holy crap im off to check out my bags - some are in dust bags and boxes for 6+ months .......................... thanks for the tips
Thanks for this excellent video, Sophie.
Great video Sophie 😍😍 love you so much 💐💐💐💐
I absolutely love this necklace Sophie :D x
Fantastic video!!! Thank you so much for your tips!
Thanks so much Sophie for this video! Subscribed!

I just bought the Milo Medium Leather & Suede Tote to use as a daily laptop bag. I'd like to treat it for waterproofing and general protection. What you you recommend? Do you waterproof your new leather bags?
