Skateology: Frontside flip (1000 fps slow motion)

- This is my Skateology video for frontside flips. These clips were filmed at 1,000 frames per second with a Redlake N3 high speed camera at 1280x720 resolution. The skaters are Scott Hartzel, Alex Knox (0:33), Dylan Phipps (0:50), Scott Higginbottom (2:00), and Steve Urban (2:19).

I personally like when a fs flip goes horizontal, instead of vertical like a hardflip

all are frontside flips - but the last 2 were the regular frontside flips and the rest were muska flips

ya those ones are also easier because u dont have to rotate all the way- but its scarier because it goes in between your balls - i had them down but i forgot how to do them :D

Henno zinger ya it is and u dont have to pivot at the end like a "frontside flip"- but thats just and opinion- other people may find it harder to do muska flips

A few of these were valid fs 180 kickflips
I personally prefer fs flips to muska flips because I think they're more difficult and more satisfying and a better-looking trick. It's more of a fs 180 kickflip variation as opposed to a different trick with a 180 body varial. The muska flip has the board and your body do essentially the same thing as a fs flip, but you do the spin and the board does it's thing in a way that sort of hides the fs 180 rotation of the board and then you and the board meet at the end. For fs flips, that mid-spin catch and then the completion of the spin is what makes it so aesthetically pleasing and feels better having the board suck up to your feet. It accentuates and highlights every component of what a fs 180 kickflip is. Best way I can put it is like this: a fs flip is a kickflip and a fs 180 spin and it assembles those two ingredients like a bowl of cereal with milk poured over it. A muska flip is like if you put milk and cereal in a blender and drank it like a milk shake. It's essentially the same thing but the texture is off and it seems like it's own thing. Some people might like it better that way. Many people prefer the inverted look and I think that's a big part of what makes skating so amazing. Everyone's different and skating brings out the individual style of every skater.

@planbsponserme Some people, like Dylan, can do fs flips without flicking it with their front foot. I wanted to show in my skateology video that there is no one right way to do a fs flip and people are quite effective doing them different ways. In regular speed you might not even notice the difference. Dylan also does hardflips without flicking with his front foot, which you can see in the hardflip skateology.
At that point its more of a fs pressure flip than kickflip
This is an interesting video. When I first got into this 20 years ago frontside flips were as they are in much of this video. They changed though, at least the definition did, to more of a straight forward frontside 180 kickflip as seen in the last segment. I use every kareem campbell video ever made as my evidence

A muska fs flip is like a rocket flip w/ a fs 180, thats why its so easy, the board never levels out. Practice leveling out your kickflips and then fs flips become easier.
Real frontside 180 kickflips start at 2:00 the rest were illusion flips

You are the only person on youtube that I have ever heard that actually understands the difference between hard flips and illusion flips. So many skaters on youtube talking about "Hard flips aren't hard", then they proceed to do an illusion flip. Hard flips are hard, illusion flips are almost as easy as pressure flips.

I reckon a hardflip body varial is still a legit frontside flip! who cares if you don't catch it halfway, the board and your body have done exactly the same thing and it's still a difficult trick. Is a tre flip still a tre flip if you don't get the front foot catch!? hells yeah!
still rrying to learn fs flip with front foot more in the middle. i have my heel sticking out when i do it, just like skaters do it when switch. i will will try the rocket fs flip technique today. might come in handy in so.e way.

I've heard it called an illusion flip too but either way I would still count it as a FS flip. that's just me though, some people have crazy standards these days!

A FS flip is doing a flip while spining 180 degrees, the hardflip FS body varial is also a FS flip but it's called "magic flip" I think ;)

Wow I forgot about this comment haha. No, I haven't got it yet, I moved away from a park so I was only about to do flat ground which I improved in. Now I'm close to a park again, but I broke a toe and messed up my foot on a gap. So I'm taking a break.
