You know I had thought about going that way, but I wasn't confident that the ceiling material would look all that great when it was Poly'ed, so we settled on Poly on the walls, paint on the ceiling. I hope I don't regret it!
That seems to be the majority opinion! I prefer it too, but I've got to have an idea for how everything else is going to look in there before I really commit to it.
It's a more contemporary look for sure, and I know the purists out there will come at me for not doing a perfect, time period correct restoration with amber shellac, but I'm just not that into the amber. In such a small space I want things to be brighter and more open, and I just feel like having amber shellac all over the place really closes it in. I don't know, I'm still on the fence about it.
Nice work! I’m impressed you can do all this yourself. Great attention to detail. I like the more natural look with the polycrylic. Looking forward to following your progress as you put it all back together. 🙂
Thanks, I'll definitely need a hand with a couple of things, but most of it is pretty lightweight construction so a single person can handle it. I'm really leaning toward the polycrylic, but we're also thinking through a couple of other design choices.
The dark surface for the walls and the light surface of the wood for the ceiling I think that would be pretty cool

My husband and I did a sunburst ceiling using closet cedar panals and birch plywood in our homemade trailer.
Nice, very creative!
@@TrailerTrashtoTreasureDo you do this for a living?
Thanks
I do not. I run a photo booth company with my wife, but there are days I'd love to be doing this full time.
Looks fantastic. Love the paler coat on the wood.

I agree with your choice of Polycrylic over the Shellac; like the look of more natural wood.

Are the strips you use to make the curve the same material that you’ll be using for the walls? Just cut into strips ?
They're actually leftover bits from the ceiling cut into strips, but you can use whatever you have sitting around.
