    ➡️Many smart speakers and Bluetooth speakers today are sold as single mono speakers. Is this influencing your mixing knowing that so many people will listen to music in mono? 6:17
    ➡️Waves Berzerk Distortion Demo: 9:35
    Now onto this amazing new plugin from Waves! The Waves Berzerk Distortion plugin is a truly over-the-top distortion and saturation plugin. It is one of the best randomizing, wrongifying plugins out there at the moment! Randomizing has been a bit of a theme over the past few weeks, and this is another one of those plugins that will make average sounds into something far more interesting.
    Plus, for today only, you can get the Waves Berzerk Distortion plugin for FREE! Click here to download it!
    This offer is only for Black Friday though, so hurry!!
    According to the description on the Waves website, their engineers “began by collecting a large array of well-loved distortion units of all types: amps, tube devcies, stomp boxes, and old analog units. They then developed original custom wave shapes based on their all-time favorite distortion curves.”
    The Waves Berzerk Distortion plugin has 10 different presets: Buzzed, Frenzy, Crushed, Trippy, Squashed, Loony, Dizzy, Freaky, Clipped, and Fuzzed. Each of these presets has its own personality, which will transform the sound by adding different grit, character, dirt, and other elements “that will blow your head off.” I already know that these presets are going to make my life so much easier!
    As more people move towards doing more and more in-the-box - and not just mixing, but using virtual instruments as well - plugins like these are great tools to have! When virtual instruments first came into existence, everyone loved that all of a sudden they could get the absolute best sounding guitar or piano right on their computer. But as virtual instruments became more and more common, all of a sudden everyone had the best sounding instruments, so people began looking for ways to make these virtual instruments sound more exciting and unique! The Waves Berzerk Distortion plugin is the perfect plugin for that!
    Along with all of the presets, the Berzerk plugin has a “Go Berzerk!” button that I know everyone will have fun using! This button creates random variations in each waveshape, which lets you personalize the signal. and then you can turn the Density knob to shift the waveshape in amplitude.

      How do you deal with the following situation:
      You're a mixing engineer or producer and your client wants e.g. a special sound esthetic or melody which is unusual. For example a melody that is very dissonant with the harmonies or tons of reverb that doesn't fit the song/vibe. As a mixing engineer or producer for a client, your task is to enhance or fullfill the artists vision. Of course. But what is if that vision is so absurd or unmusical and your client doesn't want to give that idea up (even if you explain it in the nicest way possible)?
      Do you then ask the client that your name as producer/mixing engineer won't appear in the credits because it could let externals think that your mix/production is not good or professional? Do you/Can you back off from the project (when you have already committed to the artist to work with him) ?

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@IssaMuzik my experience in these situations is IF it's really that bad then they will hear it, and more than likely;y people around them will also tell them that! It's best to let them know you don't agree, however do it and then encourage them to play it to others

      peach head marvellous question! As you can probably see there are a huge amount of Professionals that use Waves! The main thing we love about them is that you can use a huge amount of instances of them and they don’t have a ‘sound’ that hollow harsh high end that we associate with some brands.

    Got my Berzerk yesterday and put it slightly on vocals, the cut through was amazing. Be sure to mix with the HQ mode enabled, it really makes a difference.
    I would also recommend to step through the presets, because even it seems "small" it's incredible versatile.

    Snagged Berserk today, but haven't tried it out yet. (My laptop, my "portable" interface, and I are up at mom & dad's in the Mid-Hudson Valley right now, and the speakers I have to work with here have a pretty limited frequency range. Plus, I've been busy doing my online Black Friday shopping.) However, I have seen four YT reviews of this plugin today, yours included. Even Wytse seemed impressed by it, and he's a tough one to please when it comes to plugins. This is definitely a plugin I'd use but in moderation. Looks like that mix knob will come in handy. A little saturation and distortion go a long way in my book.

    hey! I saw your video and your a funny guy hahaha. Im the opposite of you - one of those who play with their eurorack so i am pretty used to get weird, distorted, bleep bloop sounds but i also enjoy using "normal" plugins and i also play the guitar a little bit (just a little). I actually baught this plugin because it wasnt free anymore but i got it for less then 10 bucks so its almost free - and i LOVE it! For drums in particular i love to use the "in" in feedback and using the highpass filter can create some really really interesting sounds with drum loops. This plugin is just insane and i love it hahaha greetings :)

    Warren, I'm really sensitive to phase widening as well (it makes me feel like my ears have water in them or something disorienting)... I recommend checking out Panpot by Goodhertz. You can pan through delay or spectral or traditional level or phase, or any combination of the above. I think when a person pans through each of the methods and compares phase, it becomes really clear how panning (or using for stereo widening) by phase feels the worst out of all the options. Also by them is the Vulf Compressor which is the most amazing on a drum bus to make it have that 90s "drum loop" feel even on live drums. Someone from Goodhertz should get you some licenses for your use and to give away to your community. They need more publicity (and have a good Black Friday sale running now)

    Greetings from Peru, Warren. I have question for FAQ Friday I'd like to pick your mind about. You said you record for labels and clients at the highest sample rate you can for future proofing and the request of said clients. Let's say you record drums at 48 kbps because of the limitations of your multichannel audio interface, but you have the chance to record vocals and the rest of mono or stereo stuff with another interface at 96 kbps. Is it worth the upscale of your drums or is it better to keep everything at 48 kbps for consistency? Thank you.

    Interesting, although my current lack of skill and knowledge tends to make my mixes go a little berserk without any help needed, lol! I also just read about a plug in called "Bad Tape" which seems like a tape emulation gone berserk that could also be interesting.

    Hi Mr Huart, Are live Studio Recorded Classical Instruments for Orchestras harder to filter individually/collectively from Input to Output with certain Gate/Limiter/compressors and Plugins etc. than pre-recorded or Digital Instruments/samples, herein, without loss of 'Liveliness' of performance(s)? Is it a generic problem providing a clear audio spectrum of these Instruments collectively/individually for the end listener, pre & post production Studiowise? What are the impacts here to overcome, and are there any simple remedies for loss(es)/gains of percussion signals and frequencies through this, if any, that do not override one Instrument over the other? Is this just basic production/mixing/mastering knowhow? Cheers for the video bud :-)

      That's why I stopped buying Waves plugins. I simply refuse to upgrade my perfectly fine running system every year and many developers make great software that still runs even on Mavericks. But it's mostly Apple's fault trying to please the consumer market with a shiny new OS every 12 month. Berzerk really sounds nice, but I'm sure I can live without it for now.

All of the great new plug ins that manufacturers are coming out with (at least the last 20 or 30 latest ones I've tried) seem to only run on the latest and greatest! Future FAQ Friday Question: silky top end: what techniques across the mix and individual instruments can we employ to create less digital harshness?

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Marvellous question! Firstly judicious high mid boosting! May times I get mixes to work on that have had so much high mid eq applied that it sounds really harsh! Obviously Tape emulations can really help and also of course good old fashioned low passing unwanted build up of high end!

      Produce Like A Pro great that you answer questions Warren, you’re really spot on. I was listening specifically to the drum sounds on Greta Van Vleets song When the curtain falls. It’s the silkiness in the hihats. When I record drums I get too much hihat leakage and harshness. Anyway! Thanks.
