    Eric,
I do custom portraits for my customers with the router and I use the exact same method however I just use regular printer paper and a very helpful tip that I would like to offer up is to use a heat gun over the paper as you are removing the template, it will make it peel off super easily and prevent having to sand before spraying with ink.
With the portraits I do some are extremely detailed which requires me to have much shallower cuts than a standard sign would have and any additional sanding could cause me to lose those details in the shallow cuts, I learned that the hard way by accidentally sanding away some shallow cuts and ruined several hours of work!
Thanks for all that you guys do! Keep up the awesome work!

MrZeroloc1 Thank you for the tip about the heat gun. I'll give that a try. Sounds like you do beautiful work. Would love to see it. Anyway thank you for watching & for the kind words.

MrZeroloc1 I second the heat gun. Especially with the thicker paper. It will remove much easier than regular paper, and be less likely to tear as it is being removed. This will make sure, like you said, that the fine details of the design are not sanded away.

    great video's
just a tip (works great) i use it to remove my scrollsaw patterns
use mineral spirits to remove pattern paper, just put spirits on a rag and wipe it on the paper just enough to dampen paper, let set about 20 seconds or so and peel off paper.

i transfer my pictures on wood with liquitex and print the designs on label paper. Peel of the labels and use that shiny side to print on with a laserprinter. No need to use water to peel off the paper, it comes off just like that, no messy business

Eric, I started a photo paper printed sign today. I will finish it tomorrow or Sunday.
I used the same spray-on glue you did. I used a light coat on the board and on the back of the photo paper.
To help with alignment, before I glued the photo down, I found and lightly scribed a center line on the board. Then I found the center line of the paper and made a small mark on each end. Then I tested it to make sure it would align correctly and sprayed the glue. I let it dry for about 5 minutes and then went to carving.
The paper was firmly attached and never moved. I made my first pass lightly and then removed the paper. Next I cleaned and sanded the board face, and then made deeper cuts all the way around.
I took time to mask off the lettering. Then I lightly painted from all sides for complete coverage. When the paint dried I removed the tape and did my rough sanding. I'll get the board finished tomorrow or Sunday.
I'm liking this method a lot!! Thanks again!

Great idea. This method of gluing you have is common with scrolling which I do more of. The use of a heat gun as one said works faster and neater then peeling it off. You can get a $8 heat gun from Harbor freight which works fine.

It seems like you set bit depth for predicted maximum depth of cut you'll want and then you're lifting one edge of the router to finish off lines or to limit bit depth on finer/thinner lines. Is that correct?

Yes you probably can but always choose the profile or the 60 over the SC 50 if you can. They cut MUCH better. I Only use the SC50 or the carving liner if I'm forced into it because the detail is too small.

(Try This) I adhere Blue painters tape on to the (board), spray on adhesive to both the pattern(Backside) and Painters tape, then attach the pattern to the board surface. This should help with clean up time(Peel off tape) once project is complete.... Just a thought, it helps with my scroll Saw pattern(s) lay out.....
