@@janhavis.8360 you know there's that classic idea that a man should protect his woman, so Andrew takes this idea and flips it on its head: his lover is so strong, so badass and so terrifying, and that's just who his baby is and nothing can harm her. Andrew also said the following about NFWMB: “This song is about watching the world burn and realizing that the person next to you is completely unfazed by it - and may have even been the one to start the fire themselves”. So basically his lover is terrifying not only in their strength but also cause they quite enjoy watching the world die (Ain't it warming you, the world gone up in flames?
/ Ain't it the life you, your lighting of the blaze?). But he still loves them

There's a swirling pool of religious imagry to inform his beautiful horror ballad, lol. I'm partial to the whore of Babylon. What I noticed straight away is that by the end you aren't so sure of who's saying what. Is it she, not he. who's repeatedly asking the other if they're still my baby? Also I thought I remembered something about Blackthorn trees...look them up under Celtic mythology. Lots of dark stuff there. Which one of them is it really that wants to be reborn as the tree? Lol. I love Hozier.

I've been telling my friends that I'm on a bit of a Hozier stint right now and I tell them that his music is like poetry where so much of the music these days is so simple in comparison. Get a good rhyme and a good beat and you're done, but this is like poerty where you have to listen to it 3 to 5 times to wrap your head around it.

It's my favorite line ever, this is coming from the guy that will listen to a song 100 times because of one line even if I hate the rest of the song. I think it is the most amazing compliment you can give someone, "the world is ending and the beast who caused it is TERRIFIED of you..." It's important to realize that this is the Christian apocalypse, as in the rapture, as in when god says "humans don't deserve me but the ones who do will be brought to heaven." the beast, god's will, is there because humans are unfit for divinity, but the beast (god's will) saw this person and it changed their mind. I understand it's of of fear but I have always taken it as they were the hope of humanity, a human so pure god said "maybe I was wrong, maybe humans can be good." I like both interpretations, it's just so good

Oh gosh it makes me so happy to hear this explanation of the song because I got exactly this impression when I first listened to it. I adore that it is about being attracted to someone for their independence, strength, and sheer emotional power, rather than their fragility or sweetness because that is 1. such a relatable experience which 2. is not often glorified in the way I think it ought to be.
Big love to Hozier and his love of formidable partners. Speaks volumes!

honestly i love it too, especially because we're used to seeing the innocent woman falling for the bad guy because she can change him and him loving her bc she's so pure. It's refreshing to see a genuinely powerful woman, like literally so powerful she's terrifying, being adored by her partner even as she enjoys the world burning. Like what a formidable love, that you would serve as kindling as she's burning her enemies alive. Like honestly i want movies and tv series about that. I'm tired of the angelic woman/child falling for a beast of a man

This puts me in mind of a song that Hades would sing to, or about, Persephone. When she sits on the throne of the Underworld, she has the most power of any of the gods of the pantheon. Mortals refuse to say her name, for fear of incurring her wrath. Her name literally means "chaos-bringer;" she can only be addressed as "The Dread Queen." Very fitting for the lyrics and tone here, I think.🖤

i definitely read this song much differently. i interpreted it to be a song about red-light behaviors from an abuser. the coming disaster is their twisted affection and 'nothing fucks with my baby' because they are isolated
the many people attempting to warn the target are 'rolling in their graves' and have been rendered nothing but a noise...
it's a terrifying song. beautiful and haunting, but it doesn't describe anything i find desirable at all

Ahhh, back to basics, just Andy and Alex. I love it!
And we're human. Humans swear. No use trying to sugarcoat it, lol. Gatekeeping language is gatekeeping human emotion and thought. Honest, uncensored expression is much better. :-)
Also, Killruddery House is fucking stunning.

Hozier talked the language of my Man. And now I know why this song became glue to our sweet relationship. My man is all about darkness and Apocalypse, and hozier spoke for him. I'm sooo fkn glad for this song.. 🙂💓

When I first heard this song I got a message that probably related to where I was with my own spiritual growth. To me, the world is going through a major transformation as more people awaken and contribute to global consciousness. For me in a lot of ways, that's the ending of the old world (old thought patterns, perceptions, belief systems, consciousness) as we become more aware of how all of those things keep us in a lower state of being. That goes along with how our perception was of the bible, and how those stories for too long have been taken literally. Almost every story can be applied to the inner transformation that goes on while we are working towards ascension or the christ consciousness.
So for me, I took this as, the divine mother carrying her new child to a holy place to birth a new world, and a new state of being that better serves everyone. When I heard, "must have caught a good look at you", it reminded me so well of when you allow certain energy into the consciousness that is growing inside of you, how much that can transform what you have already grown, which is why during the process you have to make sure you set clear mental boundaries.
Basically I took this song as the Divine Mother saying no one fucks with this new consciousness ("Jesus") growing inside of me, and I will get it there safely, haha go Mary!!
