I was there twice in 2023. I went to uni there in the 90s and go back almost every year.. And originally from N BC. Zombie drug addicts everywhere. The downtown area is a dump. You could see tourists getting off the ships thinking what the hell are we stopping here for. Van has a serious problem.
Not everyone that is homeless is on drugs. I am from USA and I live on a fixed income and the apartments I live in are going up on prices of rent in April I will be fighting to pay my rent and I won't be able to rent after next year if they go up on rent again.😢
I believe this has been a thing for many years in Canada, its not just their but all over. A real shame it wasn't addressed back when it started. Everyone makes a choice as to the way they live.
Not sure the use of the term "homeless people" should include drug addicts given that most of them arrived in the area seeking the benefit of illegal drugs rather than focussing on finding a home. There is definitely a homeless issue in Vancouver and throughout BC, but also cross Canada and much of the world. Sadly, the focus on the drug dealers has been totally lost in recent years, while activists seem intent on blaming government for the increase in drug use and the social issues that ride along with that chaos. Perhaps if these activists actually focussed on getting the homeless, including strung out drug users off the streets, into jobs or other positive activities then things might begin to turn around. Neither the city nor the province can do much to curtail the drug factor. That is a federal issue. Frankly there is a real home shortage in BC, just as in other jurisdictions and, frankly, the province should focus on homeless people who truly want to get off the streets. Somewhere along the road individuals need to take charge of their own situation.
Buenos Dias ,no es facil la Situation que hay en distintas partes del mundo con respecto a la droga y el gobierno debe tomar una solución esas personas están acabando con su vida 😢
They usually don’t harm you, but few of them might do like you are there in night time and its back alley then you might have some danger. Usually you are safe they don’t harm
