I can't thank you enough. I have been making belts for Christmas gifts. you are a great teacher. The only problem I have is converting from the size of a collar to the size if a belt. So far I have done pretty good with three of them. this one is absolutely beautiful, well they all are, but I really love this one. Again thank you. :o)
Thanks Sherri, when you say you have trouble converting size of a collar to a belt, do you mean width (knowing if it will fit through jeans loops) or length? most of the videos i make are for 20 inch collar, so if your belt was say 40 inches you would double the cords given, or if it was 30 inch belt, then add on 1/2 of the cords. I do understand what you mean, sometimes i have not been consistent with the cords as i also struggle to work it out! lol.Gosh you are well prepared making Christmas gifts!
@@Peacedonkeys Length, I can measure the width. I just usually look at what you have for 20 inch and divide by what you have for cord and get approx feet I need I usually add a bit extra just in case lol.

Question - When you are attaching the black to the buckle you make a loop then secure it to the middle of the buckle, but then you do the same on both sides of the middle. Are you just getting half on each side of the black on either side and making a loop? I wish you would zoom out when you do the first portion of the buckle so we can see exactly how you do that!

May I ask a question. I took my old collar off my girl and wanted to make her this one. I measured the old collar and it is 16 1/2 inches with plenty of room. Looking at your tut, this collar looks thick so should I account for that and make it for a 20” collar? If I should make it smaller, by how much and how would I figure the cordage? I ask these things because I want to make my lil man one next and his neck is much smaller than hers. Thank you!
hi danny and june, yes, most of these are very thick collars, so i would add about 2 1/2 inches to allow for that. remember though, that you have about 6 inches of the adjustable section which will give you around 4 inches of leeway after going through the buckle. These 20 inch collars used to fit my doggie that had a 16 inch neck so i'm not too sure on other size dogs. as for the cords needed, i would adjust the cordage by working out that if the cords listed make 20 inches, then you could divide that by 4 to give you increments of 5 inches. you will never be precise with cords so better to waste a little bit than not have enough. hope that helps, and all the best with your collars!

how long is the collar? and how many meters did you use?
The formula is usually 1 foot per inch of collar plus a bit extra ( 1.5 inches ) for comfort. So a 20 inch collar I would make 21.5 or 22 inches long. The more design and cord used - I usually add about 6 inches to be safe and measure as I go before I cut anything off. I keep measuring it on my dog as I get closer to the finish line !!

resistant to what?
To big dogs
depends if the big dogs have been trained to be obedient and well mannered. probably best for a medium dog like a cattle dog or kelpie size rather than big dogs. but it is resistant to water and sun if you use good quality paracord. all the best.
