If you ever find yourself on the wrong side of fortune and are out of work, this song and Boston's Don't Look Back are what you need to get pointed in the right direction.
Leslie here,if I have to sit in my rocker and stream any song, concerts etc etc on TH-cam…I’m still gonna ROCK!! And on 9/11, my birthday, that’s exactly what I did!! Rock on and Peace 🎼🎸🔥😎⚜️☮️💋
Styx _had_ two excellent lead singers, plus one lead singer who had a unique sound that was worthy of one or two tracks per album. Now they have old TS and a guy who sounds like a munchkin from Wizard of Oz.
Tommy wrote this song. It's amazing. It gives you realism in your blood. His emotions singing this song are so deep. I love watching him perform this with CYO. His voice and talent are raw and real.
It shouldn’t be overlooked that John Panozzo was a force of nature on the drums. He is driving that beat, and his fills throughout the song really add to it without taking away from the other parts. He was an excellent drummer.
Love STYX. Went to New York City to try and score some Saturday Night Live! tickets to see Lindsay Lohan, and instead was able to see a 'Today Show' live performance of STYX and Tommy even looked over at me, like "That sumbich knows EVERY WORD to our songs!" lol This was around 2004 or 2005. What a fun memory of New York City. Peace and Love, y'all!
The best concert i ever went to was to see these guys in 1984 in Columbia,S.C. not only was the music, freaking superb, the lightshow was fantastic too, i love STYX one of my favorite all time bands .
This was one of the songs that made like rock and roll. I was prolly 15 or so and this shit just rockedit. Then came stuff like Rush's Tom Sawyer and really different stuff like Flock of Seagull's and Def Leppard and Ozzy and even Night Ranger and The Cult. The music back then was so awesome, so many different types of rock and weird shit. The early 80's were a time of awesomness
VIVA STYX !!
Maravillosa banda solo para conocedores viva styx siempre en mi grabadora tengo el great hits origanal amo ese disco cansiones que van a tracender en el tiempo ever forever and Ever como decís Demi russos
Leslie here,With out a doubt the soundtrack of my life! Styx Boston,Heart,Led Zeppelin,Nazareth, Queen,Bowie,AC/DC,Traffic and too many more to name!! Rock on and Peace 🎼🎸😉🔥⚜️☮️💋
The "liveness" of this performance has the power to transfer the viewer to this concert arena in an instant. I was getting goosebumps from the beginning till the end as if I was there watching it live. This is an amazing gift especially for those of us living with the lockdown due to the virus. Thank you, Styx and Tommy Shaw, for your superb performance. I had the privilege to attend Tommy's solo concert in Nagoya, Japan in the early 80s. That memory is still vivid in me after 35 years. He has an extraordinary gift as a song writer and a performer.
Qué sujeto!! Todo alegría en el escenario. Un excelente cantante y uno de los mejores guitarristas del mundo. Tenemos la fortuna de que aún viva y sigue siendo genial!!
Good gosh How did Tommy Shaw NOT be as big as Tom Petty?? He had it All! His voice! Incredible. Way way under appreciated!! Sorta think the band got in his way-
Just saw these guys last Saturday down in Tennessee. They were really, really, good and worth every dime of the ticket, gas, and other expenses. Definitely one of those shows you are hoping won't end.
Superbe song.....One of my most loved Styx songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This song helped me get thru many hard times in my life at work!!!! I retired 2009. "I was a blue collar man!!" Never say Never!
Saw the back in the day from the 4th row, center, and that uplifted, charged up to levels I hadn't known existed, hit the ground a running and don't look back, raw, fully alive and aware place you're in after such a profound performance that's with you for a few days at least, is still with me 40 years later and still growing because I'm the only one they can't beat and I know it ; ) I love you brother Tommy
This song grew out of the great "industrial bomb" that really hurt Chicago's south side in the late 70's and early 80's. There were three steel mills in the south side (Wisconsin Steel, Republic Steel, and U.S. Steel), now they're all open fields. There were also food processing plants for General Mills cereals, and Jay's potato chips. They're abandoned too. WTH!
I grew up during the 70s, and I can sympathize with your assessment of the "industrial bomb" you mentioned. Not only was Chicago affected, but a lot of other cities as well, especially here in my hometown of Pittsburgh. You mentioned U.S. Steel in the observational comment; Pittsburgh was the headquarters of the company as well as a lot of other steel firms, and for decades we were the only city to produce steel with high quality until the cheaper imports came in. Plus with the new emphasis on environmental concerns and emissions regulations, our steel mills dwindled to almost nothing.
Thomas R. Skidmore Baltimore, also a big steel industry at that point, was destroyed during the late 70's under the disastrous Carter administration. The Bethlehem Steel company layed off nearly everybody back then. Although it didn't really shut down until the late 90's.
Scott Davis I love when commenters like you and the other two people in this thread explain the cultural things going on when a song was written. Great knowledge ya'll pass on.
POTUS Trump wants steel back; he is right. All purchases for steel by the Federal Government need to go to US producers. If a DoD contract is cost plus fixed fee it can support higher costs from US mills.
fligemon Yes. It might be the second ever Iwhich I've agreed with him. The first was that the Kathy Griffin monstrosity was far out of hand. Sorry to readers that we got political here for a min under a Styx video. No more from me.
Mr Dilly has had the Absolute privilege to have seen the Original.. Styx lineup in concert... and let me tell you something there Bo they Kick Rock and Roll ass !!! 👍 🎸😎
This is one of my Favorite motivational songs back in the days of my youth and I never saw this live version until now. AWESOME snapshot of this band in their prime!!! Tommy Floored me, and this band is TIGHT!! Styx was an example of the kind of talent that was OUR music, and it will never be touched, judging from what I am seeing in 2020. I Challenge all of you out there today who call yourselves "entertainers", let alone "Musicians" to Match this kind of Brilliance, these Talents. Go ahead, Make me a Liar!
0 On the studio release. Kick bass drums and cymbals are deep and absolutely great sounding on a good system. Epic beginning and end. Best Styx rocker for sure. Renegade is second for me. This is kick azz rock and roll for sure. Still love it now and since Pieces of Eight was released. OUCH!….. Don’t hear this rock music anymore.
How is this band NOT in the Rock & Roll Hall of fame?.. absolutely ridiculous.
But Eminem is up for votes lol
Because the rrhof is shit and Styx are too cool for it
Rush was only inducted in 2013. The organization is known for maligning deserving acts/bands for seemingly no reason.
Because the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame isn’t about rock, it’s about politics.
because that measuring stick doesnt fucking matter........its a jewish thing,no one who loves music gives a fuck about the rrhof
If you ever find yourself on the wrong side of fortune and are out of work, this song and Boston's Don't Look Back are what you need to get pointed in the right direction.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Boston’s ‘Used to Bad News’
I also enjoy _Punish the Gayray_ by *The Punishers of Gay.*
Absolutely 💯
Stix and Boston got me through growing up.!!
Tommy is so underrated
what a character and what a gem of rock.
Tommy shaw rules
I hate being 71 years old… But we had some of the best effing music in the world ❤❤❤

Tommy Shaw is still one of my all-time favorite musicians 🎶🎵🎶🎵
Renegade and Too Much Time on My Hands
Shaw was just never a great musician
"Reach for the Bottle" from his solo album is a hidden gem from him.
Styx has three excellent lead singers. Tommy's vocals are amazing.

one of the best voices from the 80's!
Their 3 voices just were amazing together.
They had some of the best harmonies of the era, but were obviously overshadowed by The Eagles.
After almost half a century, their songs are still shining.
Great Group!! So many great songs! Should be in the Hall of Fame. 🎸🎹👍
This song makes me think of my dad who was a blue collar man.
I LOVE STYX nearly 47 years now!!! ❤
Tommy wrote this song. It's amazing. It gives you realism in your blood. His emotions singing this song are so deep. I love watching him perform this with CYO. His voice and talent are raw and real.
Is Tommy the one with the short blonde hair or the other one with long hair?
Short blonde hair, red shirt and singing the song. He grew his hair long after this and it is still long at age 70.
He also still tours with Styx. I havw seen him 5 times since 2018. Amazing.
Guy is amazing. I got a hand slap in 2018 or 2019 on a cruise. JY also the bomb. These "single string" lead players are AWESOME - NO TAPPING!
Tommy Shaw es increíble
A guy bought me a Styx album to impress me. Thanks babe, hope life is good for you, wherever you are.
This is one of those memorable moments in music.
It shouldn’t be overlooked that John Panozzo was a force of nature on the drums. He is driving that beat, and his fills throughout the song really add to it without taking away from the other parts. He was an excellent drummer.
Ya, his contribution to their sound is really important and generally overlooked. That's what happens when a band is so overflowing with talent.
First cassette tape i bought. 1982. I was hooked. Rock n roll forever
Tommy Shaw is absolutely amazing!
Styx has had nany a hit over the years. This one IMO, is one of there best.
Love STYX. I named my son after Tommy Shaw but I'm sure his father would disagree, also a Tom/Tommy
When bands could still sing live and play every instrument, no overdubs, no autotune. Tommy Shaw an absolute beast vocalist, guitarist and songwriter.
Definitely he is so underrated. It's a shame.
What I really don’t understand is how all those people could remain sitting on their butts!
@@SpicyMcGeezaks ikr? Maybe all the drugs lol.
@@SpicyMcGeezaks Right? How could they do that!!!?

Sensacional, perfeita performance dos músicos.
Backing Vocals, impecavelmente afinados.
Tommy Shawn, sensacional. John Panuzzo, monstrão na batera!
That crowd has to be one of the most rowdy, out of control audiences I've ever seen at a concert. They need to calm down before someone gets hurt.
OK mom.

tommy shaw......wow ....and perfect backing vocals
Good gosh How did Tommy Shaw NOT be as big as Tom Petty?? He had it All! His voice! Incredible. Way way under appreciated!! Sorta think the band got in his way-
I've thought about that, but the record store shelves are filled with LPs of artists which no one wanted without their band.
Because he needed Dennis to arrange his songs. Did not have success solo and had to join Damn Yankees
