- Hi Folks,
Here's a look at a filthy, neglected Radio Cassette Recorder from Toshiba. I open up and tear down the unit in this video, along with cleaning up the casing. The cassette mechanism gets a service, a new belt and I repair the cassette door. Will it rise to play again?
This was originally destined to be a quick 'unboxng' video, but I felt compelled to get to the bottom of it straight away - so do the repairs too!

👏👏👏
That RT-70S looks very similar to the RT-6015 I repaired a few months ago.
Toshiba kind of dropped the ball when they made the RT-6016 in my opinion, because they left out the soft eject damping gear for the cassette door and no variable balance control.
Looks very similar to the one a friend at school owned, this was probably around 1984-85. That was the first time I'd come across the ST-WIDE (Stereo Wide) function. At the time I think I had a mono Sharp GF-1740, and an older Grundig C480 which could make stereo recordings from the DIN socket but it only had a mono speaker.
Those 1740s still come up for sale now and again. Very nice units. Thanks for watching 👍
Amazing the packaging people use to send, heavy, delicate old electronics in the post :(
It never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for watching 👍
Nice job! Good choice with Domino too 😊
Toshiba, so many different models that were... basically the same :-) I've just rebuilt an RT-80S and a couple of RT-120S's. Feel your pain with the black goo.
Yeah, so many models with the tiniest differences. I think some were even just colour differences...
May need recapping
Stop it
Recapping is usually unnecessary, unless it has a serious electronic issue; e.g. faulty amplifier/pre-amp/output or no power.
