    I have been watching for Apollo, but have fallen in love with Soleil and Ophelia in the process. They are too adorable. Love seeing their relationship with Apollo grow lately.

    Very sweet how well Apollo and the 2 caiques play together. Apollo being very gentle with them is super noticeable. ❤️

    He was dropping the walnut because that's what birds do when they open things that are difficult to open (crows and seagulls will drop clama, predator birds will drop turtles 😶). He exhibited a great deal of intelligence by figuring it himself.
    Also, the first time we gave our bird squash seeds, he didn't want it. I had to peel the shell apart and then he realized it was a seed. I'm not sure why birds don't understand that it's a seed. Maybe because it's not a seed they typically would eat in the wild.

    I would love a before and after weigh in of their food to know how much they actually eat. It seems most of it doesn't actually get in their mouths.

    Thank you for introducing me to this brand. I often have a hard time finding organic, not roasted, unsalted seeds and nuts for my grey. Now I know where to get both sunflower seeds and pistachios for him!

    It's interesting that they're all right foot dominant. They all hold the food with their right foot while eating.

    one time a conure at petsmart took my fingernail in their beak while i was scratching its head. struck the fear of god into my heart. they make such a mess its hard to imagine they're actually eating anything!

      We used to feed nuts to a large Maccaw in the local pet store. After a year of feeding the bird, along with other customers, the bird clamped down on my son's finger. It was a nasty bite that went down to bone, and needed a lot of medical care. Our own Red Conure was cuddly and never nipped at us.

    The fact that Apollo is working and earning those nuts with TH-cam ad revenue 😂 my parrot hated a lot of nutes and seeds... he preferred freshly cooked rice and fried eggs over most of nuts 😭

      Apollo is way too smart. One say, he will figure out that he does all the work and earns pistachios, while they earn thousands of dollars, and he will.start charging them rent.

    And if you like Cashews, they probay will too. My cousin used to have a Budgie. He would eat whatever my cousin was.
    One day my aunt suggested a test to see if the bird would eat snow with my cousin. He got a bowl of snow and started eating it with a spoon.
    Nothing. So he started eating it fast and making sounds like it was yummy. The bird came. Over and ate snow.

    Walnut shells are very hard! I’m surprised Apollo was able to open it up! he’s a very smart little guy.

      Me too! I've thought about offering them to my Grey but I'm pretty sure he'd get frustrated immediately and toss it on the floor lol

      Crows living close to a high way, learned to crack walnuts by throwing them all on the street and waiting for cars to pass over them. Totally true story. If your bird was hungry enough, he will figure it out.

    Sooo adorable to watch! Apollo likes his puzzle I guess. It's so funny because I hate walnuts and adore cashews. My bird used to try to say peanut butter when I gave him a little, but his little voice was very muffled haha.

    birds throw thier hard nuts on the ground and roads to break them or have a car run over the nut. That is what Apollo was doing when he kept throwing the walnut on the ground.

    Its so cool that he won't try to get the walnut from Soleil even after he ran out. For sure, if he really wanted to, she would not have been able to take it from him, but he won't her. I also think hw knows she can't open it.

    It's really hard to take care of, together with Jako the parrot and two other cute birds, more troublesome cleaning, waiting for attention, nutrition diet is a big burden on people's shoulders, but it makes you very happy that you value them.

    it's hard to imagine a more inefficient way of eating a crumbly food item than with a beak. What percentage of each nut ends up on the table or the floor?

      Not sure, would be an interesting test in the future though. Have them eat it on a desk weigh the nut before and the crumbs after.
