What fun and wonderful advice. I'm glad I'm not the only one who spends New years Eve resetting my home ready for the new year. I'd rather be doing that than going to a New Year's party.... to many people 😮😂 You mentioned one use of items, and I thought about my bread machine. With regard to the tearing the house apart looking for something you’ve donated, start yourself a little list of the items you have donated. Then check the list before 👍💕
This is helpful and inspiring. Working at decluttering a bit each week for the last couple months. Sometimes it tales a couple passes. I am pleased with how its going. It gets easier as you go
Was at IKEA on Saturday and picked up a drawer organizer which fits my oversized utensil drawer perfectly, so got that sorted out this afternoon and have started a new donate pile. Thanks for the chat Vivi…Hope all is well? Take good care. 💕🌟😘
Yay for finding the perfect item to do the job. 😊 As we head into winter reading has started again......so I'll be starting a book donating pile....for any that I can bear to part with. 😉
I always have a box ( active) and if I come across stuff I don't need it goes in the box..When the box is full it gets freecycled as car boot items... This week I freegled my old heavy drill and a sander that my arthritic hands can no longer manage... The guy who collected them had his tools stolen on a job so I know they have gone to a good home... and I have my new lightweight cordless drill. My biggest problem is paperwork...
Awhile ago now I got the itch to declutter the “room with no name” aka the office/snug/craft room … I realised that I can’t do all the crafts that I had enough craft supplies to keep myself busy for the next 100yrs … we unloaded several car fulls to the local charity shop and I was lucky enough to be in there browsing (they sell books 3 for £1 i’m only human!!) when a pile of card making supplies made someone’s day … it was a good feeling and definitely spurred me on!
I'm loving these videos on decluttering. It's something I keep on top of and I love how my home feels as though it can breathe. One thing I do is keep the lids on things. Yes, it takes a bit more room (not that I have a lot of them anyway), but every container has it's lid with it and they stack tidily. No random lids or missing lids, so no lost time searching for the right one.
I agree with sorting paperwork, but i still archive anything regarding property and tax will and savings. I can grab it in the event of emergencies in a folding section box. I am guilty of the fruit bowl quirk in our house. I keep sorting regularly, and you really have given such a good boost.
I got myself some of those stretchy lid things for my dogs food. But now use another set for containers when I can't find a lid. Plastic containers on your house are not harming anything and still have a useful life.
Great tips. I especially like the bit about using up the half bottles of things until they're finished. When I first "went frugal", I forced myself to use up the half bottles of shampoo/conditioner, cleaners, etc. If I had a shampoo that I really didn't like for my hair, I used it to refill our hand soap bottles. Conditioner I didn't care for was used to shave legs. I used up the cleaning sprays and then refilled with homemade cleaners. Right now I'm slowly buying a few new garments because my clothes are horrendous. As I buy a sweater or pants, at least one of the old versions has to be donated. I don't need "more" clothes....just more suitable clothes. As for the coffee mug thing....I need professional help. lol Thanks for the tips!
Hahahah.....I think a lot of us need help with the mug issue. I hear you re not needing more clothes but needing new, more suitable clothes to swap with. 😊
Ive never had 48 mugs!!! I am constantly astonished by how much folks have. Everything is used in my kitchen. Btw old chopsticks make great plant supports!
Viv, l loved the show. I had to smile. I buy my laundry liquid once a year. In January, the only liquid I can use will be on sale, often 50% off. I buy 5 bottles that usually lasts me until next January. I would hate to have to buy at full price. I hope you are soon upto full health.😂😅
I love a good sort out . Best time to do it as the colder days draw in and just before Christmas to get everything sorted ready for the decorations going up .
Oh the 48 mug problem! It actually ties in with the Christmas gifting thing. We ended up with so many mugs, I’m the only one that drinks teas and coffees in the home and we very rarely have guests. I just wish people wouldn’t gift mugs, especially novelty ones. I felt awful when we moved into a smaller home when I no longer could dedicate a shelf just to mugs I don’t use but felt guilty to part with! There were so many I took to the charity shops Vivi. We’ve got so much better at being ruthless though, we had an open conversation with my hubbys family about not gifting us at all. They are slowly getting there. I’d much rather just time with people than gifts, or a lovely meal out 😋. When we moved into our own home after renting for decades, we approached the kitchen clutter. I bought equipment, utensils, pans and storage solutions as I needed them so I knew I’d only have exactly what I would actually use and have space for. It’s worked out fab, again had to be very clear to hubbys family not to gift us anything as I was being very thoughtful on the organisation of the kitchen. They thought I was weird, “surely you want a nice new set of pans?” But we didn’t need all the pans that come in a set, they end up unused, clutter, just buy what you need 👍. Really enjoying this series Vivi, can’t wait to hear what you think of Swedish death cleaning 🥰💕
