One of my first priorities after we move is to find a source for good quality wood chips. We are basically moving to a British Columbia forest, so that shouldn't be a problem! ~ Sandra
Once again another informative and educational video, nice work. Thought of you off doing the gritting when i saw the weather over there. ❤ for mrs k.. stay warm n toastie.
Hi Terry. My plot isn't very big but I hav small animal shelters dotted around the plot, mainly for hedgehogs, slowworms, frogs and insects. You have been so busy again today. Make sure you don't overdo things- need to stay fit and healthy to help Mrs K. Happy growing 🙂Love and warmest wishes to Sandra
@markshaw5835 snow and rain is causing lots of problems in the Midlands Mark, just got home from gritting, some roads are now not passable, but I may get another call out in the early hours.
Your hibernaculum is such I good idea, I think I do a similar thing by leaving piles of leaves and twigs and branches around the plot, I didn’t realise it had such a formal name! 😊
@izzywizzy2361 I saw this 15 years ago and replicated it on our second plot #startinganewallotment the rats may use it, but we have to work with nature.
My raised beds are nowhere near the height of yours but I have noticed a great improvement from flooding at the front of my plot. Hope I haven't spoken to soon. 🤣
Them tanks look amazing Terry, maybe one day you will not have anything to build and move around. what will you do then?😅 Weather wise, we have had nothing but rain😢 Take care my friend...🐄🐄🐄
I have 40cm wide paths between my 1.2m wide no dig beds & every year, I add 5cm of shredded prunings & chipped branches. Within 12 months they've pretty much decomposed. Plants in the beds root out into the underlayers of the paths, so I never bother lifting the material (I use shredded brown cardboard boxes for my carbon content in my compost bays - about 250kg dry weight a year). I've 2m³ of compost I need to move from my plot to my garden but my truck's been broke for a month...🙁
@@terrykingsallotmentgardening I'm at roughly 4m³ per year now but at 67yo it's taking more doing. 300m² of grass mown which isn't mine, plus scrounging from neighbours & other plot holders. A couple of hundred kg of seaweed gathered every year from the shore - you name it, I'll take it & compost it. 😁
I struggle keeping my fingers warm in the winter, so I have to abandon my garden until the weather improves. Does anyone know of any really warm gardening gloves?
January 3rd was my birthday, 47 years young.😊. I hope you're potatoes arrived safely.🥔🎁👌🙏👍😁❤️
Yes Mate thank you, arrived safe and now on my egg trays. Happy belated Birthday.
@terrykingsallotmentgardening Hi Terry I hope they produce well for you and I'm happy they arrived safely.👌🙏👍😊❤️🥔
@nickthegardener.1120 😁
Happy gardening Terry. I am servicing all my garden tools .
@ianmccaughan7121 that's something that I don't do as I feel that if my tools look clean they are more likely to be pinched......🤣.
I love the idea of a hibernaculum, I didn't even know that was it's proper name. It's surprising how nice some fresh woodchips can make a path look.
@jamiesallotmentgarden somewhere for the rats to hide from me Jamie........🐀🐀🐀🤣
Love how organised you are
@@Plottogether37B it doesn't always go the way I like, but keeping busy over the winter months does help.
That's a mighty fine Hypernaculum you have there Terry 😁.
@ibrstellar1080 we all need to do our little bit to help.

@NanasWorms these woodchips are really nice, not normally too fussy, but well worth collec them.
Happy New Year to you, Mrs K & Skylar

@@maude5160 we didn't get enough snow for me to be called out, but I have been in tonight to cover for someone else. Floods are really bad now.

@bewoodford2807 little and often works for me, I have to work harder at home.......🤷♀️🤦🤣
Fresh woodchips make it all look so lovely and neat. Had to google Hybernaculum as its a new one on me.
Great update Terry
New to me mike too.😊👍🙏👌
@sowgroweat6987 I saw this 10 years ago and decided to do this on my new Allotment.
Didnt get snow but been raining 3 days now. Always get lots of tips and information from your channel

Fair play Terry your always chipping away at the allotment 😁.
@ibrstellar1080 just an hour can make a difference and collecting materials seems to take longer.......🤣.
Great stuff Terry! I will build a hibernaculture, following your lead. ❤.
@@fergusdangerfield156 you won't be disappointed.
Super content as always Terry. Very jealous of the woodchips but that Hybrrnaculem is amazing. All the best for 2025 Terry 😊
@GardenerGray got another 18 bags to the allotment ready to spread and we all need to do our bit to help the wildlife.
Happy New Year Mr K and the stunning Sandra ❤, hope it’s a fantastic year, Ali ☔️🥶🇨🇦

@sandram1503 better in our allotment's than our houses.
So true, I feel for those families that have had their homes devastated by flooding. It puts everything in perspective.

I love the 'living space' under the galvanised tanks, but do you also get 'unwanted' residents as well as the 'more desirable' ones??
@@GordonjSmith1 the rats will no doubt hide there, but they have to come out sometime......🐀🤦🤣

Terry, I couldn't see if you had made any drainage holes in those metal tanks. Or is it a plan to help the deep roots??
@helenkeough4187 with it being in a covered area I have decided not to add any extra holes to help keep the moisture in that I add.
