The beauty about the kimura is that you can get it from every ankle, from every position! Hell even with a bit of knowledge and momentum you can counter someone with a kimura in backmount! Most versatile submission in the game!
Fr tho! Feels like a get out jail free card, almost. Maybe cuz im mostly rolling with other white belts :) but I'm starting to see kimuras from everywhere... Sweeping from guard, defending singles, side control, half guard it's beautiful
Started to learn how to sequence stuff, and exactly that, I learnt the kimura was available after a failed hip bump sweep, but also chaining a failed kimura into an over the neck under armpit lock for another sweep, or in your vid here, keep the arm and rotate towards his head for an arm bar attack. Great vid considering how old it is, still a gem, much ❤
Just devised much the same connection the other night on my own, and now I have found your detailed breakdown legitimizing and brightening the little lightbulb in my head. Thanks!
Haven't even watched yet. But today I hip bumped to kimura sweep to mount. But literally every class I think about something I'd like to work on or refine and up pops a video from you on it lol
So good! That idea at the end of just doing it a bunch of times. I realized this today. I decided I was gonna be super aggressive from closed guard and every time my partner postured, I went to hip bump. It never worked, he's way bigger than me, but eventually I was able to lock in a kimura and sweep to mount. Thanks Coach!
I’ve finally got the hip bump sweep working after a year of experimenting! Really sell the cross collar or pull down and when they jerk up to counter your sweep is there pretty risk free about 50/50. And you have the option to kimura as well if that fails!
I was worried not to see "awesome" or "fantastic" in the title until you said it in the first 3 seconds. :D Joke aside, it's a pleasure to see your passion for your art. Sometimes, I end up watching videos of techniques I don't really intend to work on simply because of your contagious good mood! #HowToGetLostOnTheInternet
I learned a hip bump to triangle choke combo and if I can include the kimura into that existing combo I'm sure I can get really creative and my rolling partners will have a lot of problems with it. I haven't ever really had very much success with kimura on it's own but I think this will help me a lot.
Great stuff Ryan, I love the triangle hip bump combo and if you want to add more: an omoplata, guillotine and cutting armbar can also be added! (-: Coach Tom Davey
The Grappling Academy I'd love to see a video incorporating all of them, I understand if it's too long of a video so maybe a series of hip bump to _____
Coach, out of curiosity: when you go for the kimura, why do you choose to go wrist-over-wrist as opposed to grabbing ahold of the wrist? Do you actually get a better grip or is it more for if they try to escape it and its easier to grab their wrist? My white belt mind can't comprehend it and I would love to know the logic/rationale behind it. Thanks!
Monkey Grip (wrist over wrist) gives you more grip push and also less stress over the thumb muscles which allows you to keep the grip for a longer time than when you do the C Grip (holding wrist). Also Monkey Grip works wonders with the Americana.
Love these combinations Professor. For example scissor sweep then they base to a triangle, etc...I watched one of Marcelo Garcias black belts get this on Marcelo and others here in NYC. Marcos Tinoco who does this told me it doesn’t matter what belt level your opponent is they have to post or they’re going to get swept! If you could show more combinations that would be great Thank you John.

Used this in class today and it is very effective. I got a sub and a few sweeps
Awesome work, keep it up! (-: Coach Tom Davey
I forgot all about this lol. I used it in a comp last Saturday and got the sweep to mount. Its my bread and butter still
@@z84danmanz I just read it bro 😂😂, u the man

Awesome approach to the Ude-garami.

Just learned this in fundamentals very cool to see the mount options as well
it was an excellent tip about moving your hip towards his posting arm before falling backwards,
Thanks :D

Digging through your older stuff, hope you are healing up well.
Great chain. Simple and effective, like all the best techniques, in my opinion.
Man professor Tom is the best...wished he would do an instructional...I'm definitely a buyer
Thank you: I have free and paid courses on my website (-: thegrapplingacademy.com

This way just works best for me and my students, find your best way and keep track of the statistics. (-: Professor Tom Davey
