DJPolution I got my first two triangles during a live roll last week, and they were a hell of a lot harder than this. I'm gonna have to give this bump a go.
Dustin Michel I find kimuras easier then triangles. But the best luck with submissions is the guillotine. I don’t know why but when I rap the arm around the neck and I make this lock with my other hand, I don’t even feel like I need to practically use any strength, I just lay back, pull his head, always have my hips go up and it’s game over from that point on. But I’m horrible at triangles .
@@DonceBeats you want to go onto your hip on either side so the floor is not in the way and then your basically choking them with the force of how much you can deadlift
Wow...Ryan Hall is the best teacher. I was able to understand everything he said and makes the details memorable. Amazing clarity to teach complex moves using simple concepts so there is less memorization and more thinking.
Ha I like how u put this together.. How're you could debate if it should say " less memorization and mor to think .. Or the other way around." Either hola from Algeria
I have trained with guys who trained with Ryan at Irvin's and most comments sounded a bit negative. Maybe it was out of jealousy. He has a gift of teaching and understanding the physics and science of jiu-jitsu and applying it to his own game as well.. I am impressed with your teaching skills. Great job.
Jiu-jitsu is a whole game of "Well, what if they just do this to counter" Counter, Recounter, Counter, Recounter, the game never ends, well, until submission.
His videos has been out for a decade or close to it, but if you're starting from scratch and you want to start somewhere, Ryan hall videos has the most well constructed systems of learning without putting you to a non choke, outside the mat, sleep. Beginner friendly, easily digestible.
I couldn't agree more. I remember when I was a white belt and I signed up at a gym and I was rolling with a purple belt and had a hold of his ankle and let it go and said "I wont go for an ankle lock that could hurt you" and he's just like "I don't think you could hurt me but okay" and I was just like... " I met experience wise, I don't know what I am doing and could hurt you for not knowing what I am doing", and he's like "Oh". Always let go of the ego when practicing BJJ or sparring with another partner in kickboxing.
@@905legends lol ya I don't fuck with BJJ but some of my friends do and I respect it. Even my friends can be annoying about it but the gym stories they tell about try hards and smug scumbags they run into are funny as hell
It makes so much sense when Ryan explains why and how, His Lex Fridman podcast was extremely interesting too, I admire his approach to the sport and his philosophy, reminds me of the Kwisatz Haderach (Dune). Brilliant.
I like how he looks more serious during a non lethal, informative video tutorial than any of his fights Whenever he fights he just looks like he woke up, his mum asked him to submit this dude as a chore on a sunday morning, then after a victory he just goes and starts his day
Great detail. I especially like the trainsition where you go to yoru perpendicular angle as your coming back down. Very smooth transitiong and excellent use of timing. by the time you come back down your opponent should be close to tapping. Awesome!
I somehow saw Ryan Hall teach this in a video like ten years ago, maybe more....it was awesome cuz I was doing JJJ and I tapped my sensei with this move and he had literally 100lbs and 5 years experience on me. It's such a simple, beautiful maneuver I was able to do it just after watching the video and applying it while rolling.
Huh. Things I learned from Ryan Hall today: How to finish a triangle, how to use deep half guard and, apparently, Rickson Gracie has "mind bullets." Holy shit.
This is THE instruction vid for the triangle coke [ which , of course is actually the triangle strangle ] - I confess that in many years of grappling I've had shit luck with the TC - I reckon this is going to change that. It's going to take a fair bit of drilling cos its quite complex , but time well spent. Many thanks !
my issue after trying this has been that i can get the guy to post his arm following the hip bump,,however if his other arm is tucked on his own body then you can not put your leg across his back and threaten the triangle...For example Ryan's right leg in this video is able to go across the other guys upper back, but if the other guys arm is tucked into his own body you cannot do this without getting caught in a stack situation
omoplato's also work great with this hip bump or kimora and guillotine.i have a triangle for this but its not nearly as good as this, this is excellent!
The arm is trapped by the suspending leg. Also the opponent is not thinking about triangle initially, he's thinking about not getting swept. Hit this so many times. Never happens. Just stay tight.
I use to train with Ryan in Virginia...he is really good man, he kicked my but every day. There were some great guys at Lloy ervins BJJ in Arlington, Va.
i can see why, most guys like the "just tell me how to do the move" teaching style i like this, because i think a lot when i roll and am very careful (not a natural athlete haha) and i want all these concepts that apply to a lot of things. so yeah, i enjoy his teaching style but i can see why a lotta people wouldnt
i can't even start bjj because of a couple injurries, never trained bjj before, wrestled a little in high school, but man he makes me want to get on the mats so bad! when i do finally start bjj hopefully i have a little more base knowledge from the wizard!
Ryan hall was 36 when he was 24
Lol he's just so good at teaching bjj, that I'd believe him if he told me he was a wizard from 200 years ago
LMAO!!!!
And that's that!!!
I tried this during a full on spar and it worked. Plus This was the first time I've ever submitted a fully resisting person.
DJPolution I got my first two triangles during a live roll last week, and they were a hell of a lot harder than this. I'm gonna have to give this bump a go.
Try a hip bump kimura or hip bump to guillotine. Some of my favorite set ups.

Ryan Hall always has the best tutorials. So comprehensive and fluid.

watched some of his podcast, guy's smart AF
I saw this video when it first came out. Now, as a black belt, I still send it to everyone in class. Ryan's instruction is timeless.
Why does Ryan make BJJ sound so much more interesting than it already is?
He's passionate about it. It's infectious
i love the way this guy explains stuff
You ever get that giddy feeling like you're learning a magic trick? Kind of getting those vibes watching this.
100% agree
thats why he's nicknamed the wizard lol

9 months ago i started mma and watched this. Triangle choke is now my best sub

Dude is one of the truly respectable Bjj practitioners. BJJ is riddled with doichebags but there are also a lot of good people

Ryan just has a way of explaining things. Its great.
Greatest instructional teacher I've ever seen, his detail and depth at which he talks about each position and theory is amazing.

I did this move again last night during a roll. It worked again! My go to move when I have someone in my guard.
If you want to see if it work in comp have a look at Ryan here: Ryan Hall (Fifty/50 BJJ) v. Charlie Martone (Street Sports)
