Can people stop complaining about how she is pronouncing the Maori words? I'm Maori and I'm not taking personal offense to it. You have to consider that the words we're familiar with, aren't as quite recognisable to her. Michelle and Daven didn't grow up in New Zealand. If she had said her Vietnamese name, most of us wouldn't even be able to repeat the sound. Besides, there are a lot of people who live here who pronounce Maori words awkwardly. She's actually not doing a bad job. For a country that is so multi-cultured, I still can't understand why many of the people who live in New Zealand still get flustered over things like pronunciation.
Exactly, these people complaining about the pronunciation don't take a moment to realise that they aren't familiar with these words. How many of us could walk into any country in the world and pronounce the language correctly? Heaps of people in New Zealand who can't pronounce Maori properly, direct your ire there lol.
Wow Aotearoa looks so beautiful from a foreigner's eyes. They made it look so cool. When in reality we all know how long a Powhiri can get... But then again it's always tourist attractions and showy in Rotorua lol. That's some pretty flash food. I'm glad they enjoyed their experience with Maori culture. Makes me quite proud :D
Brother Kemara Kennedy presenting the matataki.....true practitioner of taiaha. Awesome to see the bros and sisters.....those karu ruru Nero Panapa.....deadly.
Michelle I love you and your vids... These wanderlust eps are much MORE interesting than these previous eps. why? I think because it's direct to our expectations with real things and real stories... Keep moving Fawn! Love you all
This week I have been studying Maori culture for my Indigenous media class. So I was very excited to see your new video was about the Maori! The Haka is probably one of my favorite parts of Maori culture.
i just read the book The Whale Rider, and it's about the Maori culture. I love how you give us a little inside look into their customs. Thank you Michelle.
I really love this culture. I. Love how everyone participates about other cultures. I am so proud to have and been a part of some of the cultures in the world.
Sometimes I wish I was a visitor to New Zealand, I was born and live here yet there is all this stuff I have never even thought to experience, these videos are great btw, I am loving this series
LOOOOOOVE IT!!!! Going there is on my bucket list! I grew up in a community with a large Samoan population, so I have a ton of respect for all of Polynesia! But the people of New Zealand stole my heart after my day at the Polynesia Cultural Center on Oahu :)
I reckon Daven did really well in his haka and so did Michelle in her poi dance! awesome lol. and I liked how Jerry described the difference between the Samoan pe'a and the Maori peka, loved this vid. Can't wait to see how you've experienced the rest of your trip here :D
Don't underestimate the reputation of NZ! As far as I know, it has become the most popular travel destination for European students in their semester abroad. I would love to visit this country at least once in my lifetime!!
I had to learn the poi ball dance in my high school dance class! its pretty fun once you do the windmill or helicopter looking moves, though we used two balls on strings instead of one.
Amazing! Thanks for sharing this with us :) you make me wanna go to New Zealand now, everything is pretty rad and u two look like you really had a great time ^^ the talk about the Maori tattoo is so interesting, travelling and learning about different cultures is a great experience I wish someday I can travel too. :3
ahh i am so proud i am born in the beautiful country. i lived overseas for 2 yrs and coming back makes you really appreciate the people and unique culture of NZ. watching this series gets me all teary-eyed! PROUD TO BE A KIWI!
I visited Rotorua! The Maori village was awesome. And it was so nice to see them keep their culture alive. Oh and I loved the Hangi food, especially kumara :D
+Jacqueline Tuisaula He patai noa iho taku he aha te take o te mangeretanga ki te whakamaori i a 'Aotearoa' ma to 'Zealand hou'. Ki au nei he whakaaro pakeha te mahi
it is o amazing to seeeeeeeee and feel the good energy. i cjanged accounting for makeup (though i am an accountant already) i feel awesome so see that i made the right desicions....and that it makes a difference. i love you guys
Itd be nice if you made these videos alittle longer in each segment per week! :) The show is great but itd be nice to include a bit more, since I am sure there is alot of stuff that is cut out of these shows :D
I guess it is shocking when here, tattoos need to mean something BEFORE it gets printed onto your skin, but for Daven (and in America generally), tattoos are more for aesthetic purposes. I'm glad (and also surprised) that he actually decided to take the time to actually ask about what it meant and try to understand it.
I widh that just one day i have the chance to do all of those amazing things and visiting all of those beautiful places, bt since i can't in the moment it's really nice to have you guys that are so sweet and have all that work to shows us this amazing vedeos.:D
It wouldn't make sense if you didn't pick up the leaf. The whole thing with visitors and hosts outside the marae is a welcoming ceremony, or Powhiri, where two separate tribes or entities become one when on the marae. The leaf is a peace offering between the two entities, and picking it up symbolises the acceptance. Not picking it up probably meant war.
New Zealand isn't insignificant! Everyone I know, including me, would love to visit, see the land, and learn more about the peoples that live there! :)
My Hawaii Island school, did the Haka for a Mayday ceremony. And I tell you it what hilarious and pain full. Slapping your thigh and chest was a pain. But I got a good lesson through it.
This was a great video. They're getting better and better. Although I feel that the guy could have gotten something a little better than cookies. Like wine or something.

Its not that difficult to repeat after hearing. I dont hold it against them...but it really isnt that difficult if you actually try a little bit
