All of the problems this powsurfing solves compared to snowboarding are self imposed. Stop taking snowboarding to serious and you will have way more fun.
Injury or illness, neither of which I want, can help, too. There's nothing to improve your attitude like just being grateful you can finally get on your board again for the first time, if only to S turn down a few Green and Blue runs. Don't forget that good feeling, and you'll get a leg up on most of the people on any hill. Especially skiers. 😂
@@barrydworak 100% this. I crashed and tore my rotator cuff last March. Had to cut my season short. Felt amazing to get back out on my snowboard this season!
As a water -based surfer, this seems kinda awful but I'm prone to preferring the warm. As a 45 year old budding youtuber, this video is off the charts. In fact, all of your videos are off the charts. Art. The fact that YOU, with all this talent, haven't blown up on YT yet it proof positive that A. People like rubbish. and 2. Since there's almost no hope for me to make it as a youtuber, I now feel less pressure to conform. I'm just gonna keep making the art of my life, as you are, and that's probably the reward in the end anyway. :). Thanks Shaffer, you are a great talent and inspiration!
Snowboard will never die! :D But thanks for your videos. I just discovered your channel and I just can't get enough of your content! Please keep it up! Greatings from Hungary
I use to snowboard when I was younger, haven’t been around snow for the past 5 years but just moved back to the northeast. Getting a season pass in the next month or so and can’t wait to get back on the slopes. There’s hope.
I started skiing when I was 2, snowboarded for 22 years, skied for 30 years, I can do 720 and 900 based ticks on either, I think at the end of the day I prefer to ski. I’ve been to Alaska and the Alps, don’t think I could have done it on a snowboard, I definitely can go faster and have a lot more control on skis. There are some quality of life things you have over snowboarding, too.
Each person has to find the tool that give them the best enjoyment in the winter, speaking as a nearly 80 year old snowboarder. After learning some basics one should bring in the reality of life and not try to impress others, just ride within sensible accountability. Due to the fact that as we age limitations come into the equations. Lack of good decisions making & going beyond one's ability to impress others cause accidents, know your limits and enjoy your riding level for yourself no matter how you do it!
Wow this edit must have taken forever. PowSurfing I’m intrigued. Been skiing for 30 years and I know that feeling, I’ve felt it but sadly in the Midwest it doesn’t happen enough. I thought you guys were going to take the sled up the hill and send it solo down, this approach seemed much safer. Really cool video, 🔥🔥🔥 storytelling.
currently sitting out my winter season with acl rehab. never tried snowboarding, but should I suffer from yet another knee injury from skiing I'll consider switching to pow surfing after watching this.
Hey mate, I just found your channel! I think what gives you the 'feeling' might be the process of learning something new Or 'flow state' The perfect balance of challenge and skill level 🤟🤟 surfing give it to you forever because you can never master it
We’ve always called it no boarding. Say yes to the no. Or the kings sport. I also see your riding on the seven sisters up kebler pass. First I really was with a no boarder we skinned up the anthracites. Tiny kept saying he was going to no board East bowl. I didn’t really think about what he was saying until he put his board together and his bindings in his pack. I was like hell yea dude.
The more mainstream an activity gets, the more you'll see businesses and corporations creep in. It's the people who support the business are part of the process. If your out Powsuring one day and say. I'm hungry, I want food and I didn't bring shit, I wish they had a lodge. Boom, you just joined the masses.
Working at a ski resort, I know a lot of my snowboarder friends have actually started skiing. One of the main reasons I think, beyond just wanting to try something different, is that skiers get injured less, and less severely usually. Snowboarding is very hard on the body. I know so many snowboarder coworkers who at some point in the season are walking around in a sling, or messed up their knees or ankles, or wrist or elbows or shoulder or something. It just seems to take a lot out of the rider when they crash. Especially because the bindings don't release. Plus, I think a lot of my snowboarder friends are intrigued about the ability to traverse steeper terrain that you can do on skis, much more easily than on a snowboard. That ability to access more difficult terrain is appealing I think to many.
I don’t agree I see lots of skiers on crutches. Small accidents on skis seem to wreck your knees and ankles and that just freaks me out. Let me smash a forearm up any day imo. At least the season won’t be over for me
@@illusstraitYou’re right you do get more knee injuries with skis. But you get more hip, back and shoulder injuries with a snowboard. A big part of the reason is no releasable bindings. When that tech came out for skis in the 70s or something, there was an overnight drop in ski injuries of like 45%. Why snowboard companies don’t adopt this is a mystery. Probably because your boots would get less comfortable. In fact, snowboard tech as a whole is kinda stale. The board I bought in 98 has the same or near same profile, same bindings, same construction etc as one you could buy today. Whereas skis look, move and feel completely different from the nineties. Snowboarding is losing market share, since 2011-13 peak. They need to do something drastic to stay relevant.
@@illusstrait I don't really know that I agree with that. Working on a mountain, it's not that I don't ever see injuries with skiers, it's just that releasable bindings saves a ton of injuries. Obviously, any sport you can get injured doing. But just going off my obviously unscientific anecdotal personal experience, I definitely see far more snowboarders at my work injured. It's pretty uncommon for me to see a skier who's seriously injured. And when they are, it's usually because they hit a tree, or effed up a landing dropping a cliff, or in the terrain park or something. I've definitely hit my head pretty hard skiing, but I wear a helmet. But yeah, that's just my own experience at least.
Why fix something that isn’t broken? Plenty of resorts still have a lot of crazy terrain so idk what feeling you’re chasing. Go to the back country if you want to feel more wild
Bruh…snowboarding will never die because I’ll be the last one doing it. On the plus side if more people become surf pow bros then it’ll make more room for me on my local hill. Shaka bro 🤙
This is really stupid, if you love snowboarding then enjoy it, and if you enjoy house surfing then enjoy it but no amount of house surfing is going to replace snowboarding. Like you said the conditions have to be just right which means ski resorts aren't going to spend the time to make this feasible for everyone d thus replacing the snowboard. This is actually somewhat how I learned how to snowboard to begin with. I was little and had one of these cheapo boards that literally just had a hand strap that you used to hold on to before I got a real snowboard. Good video but stupid argument
You want the feeling?, buy a skiggity skateboard. I've been there with all the backcountry whatever and epic surf ect. that stuff is great, but skating is accessible and dry.
Fu*k me 😍 Mate, you're the best. I always enjoy watching your videos and constantly smiling during watching time. I don't know how are you doing this but your content makes fell me better and happier 🙂

I'm so glad I found your channel. Every video is just so feel good and touching. After watching it, full of warm fuzzies inside.
So it has gone full circle from snurfing to snowboarding and back to snurfing again...just with better snurfers now.

How to jump and ride in a halfpipe with this?
what kind of shoes do you wear while pow surfing because you dont have to wear snowboarding shoes
Any soft boot with flat, grippy base like Sorel. I use 15 year old really worn snowboard boots.
What about split boarding? I know it's a lot of work, but ppl do get by with split boarding without a sled.
Great stuff as usual. I miss the snow!
Isn't this like the original Snurfer, from the 1960's?
Looks like you had a great time with your friends! I love your "non-seriousness"!!🤗

Great vid pal, very nice edit ;-)
"No bindings, no rules"... well except for gravity, and friction, which are pretty strict!
Your content is always exceptional. That 360 was freaking insane, love the feeling

Thanks! the 360 was planned the 720 not so much haha
Literally doing this last week in Lapland 🇫🇮🏄🏼♂️ so fun!

I don’t think so. Just got off the mountain earlier today, based on lift lines, nothing is dying here.
The snurfer never really went away!

Is this technically avalanche terrain?
Flash forward 20 years and its an Olympic sport with folks doing skateboard style trick in a half pipe.
been surfing since 5th grade. Still best time on snow.
