    I've been taught by Nathan. I think that he's as good at teaching as he is at painting. This book does exactly what it says on the cover--highly recommended.

    I took his course in Schoolism and it was so valuable! He is a great teacher.

    I went to a weekend workshop of Nathan Fowkes at LAAFA (Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art) a couple of years back for Figure, lighting and color with Watercolors and watching him paint live and being lucky for him to critique my paintings was awesome. He is modern master and it’s great to see him finally publish a watercolor landscape book!

    I am currently watching the gouache and landscape painting course on Schoolism by Nathan Fowkes. a good amount of material in that book seems to be also used here, so I think its a great companion piece to have handy. im tempted to get it! Its a great course and Im learning a lot even as an amateur painter
    Also watched a video on TH-cam recently where Nathan explains how he fell very ill for a whole year and he couldn't paint or even speak, and he used that time leading up to his surgery to layout and publish a book! I have a strong feeling its this book, and it goes to show even how impressive and dedicated he is as an artist!

    Thank you for sharing this book. I was looking into buying this book. I have a pretty extensive library of watercolor and drawing books. While I’ve learned a lot from many of my books once in a while I am disappointed due to lack of instructions on how to achieve the essence of the artwork by the artist. Some are just glorified picture books of the artists paintings. Worse yet are the books without color pages! I really appreciate what you do. A long time fan of your TH-cam channel from Arizona, USA 🌵🌞🌵

    This book looks like it will join the ranks of Gurney's Color and Light as one of the 'bibles' of observational painting.

    I definitely am interested in this book, I have been wanting to practice more painting with light and color. I am also interested in mixing gouache and watercolor, and I think this would make a great addition to my reference collection.

    such pretty book. I really want to try gouache, but as a beginner, it seems like it might be "cheating" when I don't even really know what watercolor can do. I think I lean more towards landscapes and nature than city scenes, but your Urban sketching is also very interesting because there is a lot more perspective and vanishing points there. Maybe not, but it seems more obvious.

    I've got a question, Teoh. If I only use watercolours and not gouache (or if the only gouache I use is white for highlights), would I gain anything from reading this book? Some of those paintings where the cool or warm underpainting sets the temperature for the finished painting are tempting me to part with some cash.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Those underpainting techniques apply to gouache. Much of the book is on gouache.

    • @wilfreeborn1
      @wilfreeborn1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@teohyc Sort of - the only gouache he uses is white. He does mix that white into watercolours which does lose the transparency of "pure" watercolour. Its a similar technique to James Guerney. It just depends how you feel about using white.

    • @toddmargaret991
      @toddmargaret991 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wilfreeborn1 Oh ok cool...I already have watercolor paint so I just need one tube of white gouache to follow along with this book right?

    hey teoh can you tell me something about the durability of an ipad?
    im spending 600 euros for an ipad 7 and apple pencil but i heard some really critical stuff about the durability so now im concerned about it...
    may you help me figure out this doubth?
    do i need to worry about the ipad durability? is going to last some years before is going to stop working or getting slow in a short ammount of time?

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why is the iPad 7 so expensive? 600 Euros? You can buy it directly from Apple's website or store for less. iPad is durable. No problem. Or check out the refurbished section on Apple's website where prices are around 15% off. You can use the savings to buy additional Applecare if needed. I read in Europe there is 2 years standard warranty that already comes with the product.

    I have started reading this book, and became a bit frustrated rather quickly because of this: He promotes location painting with minimal supplies, then in the next breath starts adding masking to his paintings, with no explanation as to how he manages it in the field. I agree that his work is lovely and interesting, but actual instruction seems rather minimal so far. I’m hoping for more out of it as I wade farther in and try his methods.
