We have been adjusting various details these weeks, and apart from magnets and tension, we have also changed the accessories, added a pamphlet to introduce the difference among the four versions. As for the reason why we put so many rings in maglev, it's because if there are only 2 rings, the tension will change sharply with the distance change. We add more rings to make the tension change closer to linear, which will be more stable than traditional maglev. We set these cubes at competitive prices, hope more people would like to have a try on it and chose Tianma X3 as your main!

Engineer here: IMO the multiple magnets is super interesting TLDR potentially more linear (spring-like) force curve & varying number of magnets adds another slightly different stiffness adjustment. These magnets are in series repulsion based on how this is marketed and how they stack when out of the core but still on the screw. One of the core engineering differences between maglev and spring compression is the nonlinear force curve seen in maglev. It's explained really well in a post on r/Cubers. Because only a fraction of the compression force- distance curve is used, the maglev ends up feeling approximately linear (like a spring). However, as you move the compression window on a maglev, you’re not only moving the preload force, but the area of the curve you operate at, meaning as you tighten the cube you have more nonlinear effects. Might serve to make the operating range more linear but not sure off the top of my head. IDK how useful it is, but varying the number of series magnets would allow a third adjustment variable which controls the area of the compression curve you’re operating at (aka the nonlinearity / stiffness ratio) at a potentially lower cost than providing lots of replacement magnets. Not sure how much of a noticeable effect either the linearity or extra adjustment would have but either way it’s super interesting and innovative!

I suspect they didn't market /consider the extra adjustment because of that and I imagine it's quite difficult to tune given it's so dependent on the tension setting, but I'm a perennial tinkerer so I'd play with it for sure. The normal 2 adjustment mechanisms should be just as easy as in normal cubes though(it looks identical to my rs3m .
Magnets spring rates are progressive, the difference between setting 5 and 6 will be more than 1 and 2. Moretry Man said that by using 6 weaker magnets with smaller gaps between makes it more linear, still a curve but closer to a straight line. As a mountain biker who messes with suspension a lot, I find making a progressive thing more linear very interesting.
I believe they were initially going for the +2 Finisher with their original magnet strength, but failed. Their Snap Version seems to be their real flagship. And at least now we can see why they don't offer adjustable magnets, and why there are 4 versions. They are now essentially different cubes.
I feel like I should get the maglev one just for the purpose of stealing 2 of the 6 magnets to cram into my 3d design 4x4 (and maybe even 6x6, depending on whether I get a 3d printer) The maglev magnets appear smaller the RS3 ones (unless someone measures them and proves me otherwise) so it might be easier to deal with the space constraints of an even cube.
My main cube now is MoreTry Tianma X3 Triple (Snap) and it feels really amazing. I just need to learn new alg so I can reach sub-15 and sub-10 if possible

I actually prefer the term "Snap" over "Leap". The former makes more sense if you think about it. They try to accomplish the same thing using different mechanisms. So they won't get into any patent issues.
@@thesphyrth they actually behave differently. The Leap uses attracting magnets to align the cube from above 30° while this one uses repelling magnets to "snap" past the 45° mark. However, this one doesn't fully align the cube
Sad to hear that the magnets have been made weaker. I was looking forward to a cube with super strong magnets, not really for speed, I just really like the feel of strong magnets. Oh well, I will probably give this one a miss now. Glad I didn't pre-order it yet.
