Good morning Johnny! I really enjoyed the walk along Eglinton Ave E from Kennedy station to Victoria Park. I can’t wait for the line 5 Eglinton crosstown to be open very soon.
That's not a Costco on Eglinton. It's a Costco Business store. (Cut throating the Staples store?) It was a Zellers before that.
If you were to go inside, one main difference is no food court. Mainly a focus on things for businesses, but still some useful things for home use & a limited selection of groceries.
Thanks again Jhonny and absolutely another spectacular beautiful shooting filming footage compilation walk away tour .. appreciate your beautiful sharing .. stay safe and take care .. thank you so much ..
Haven’t been to Kennedy station in ages Johnny! Thanks for sharing 🌻
Your videos always bring me home.
This is so true for me literally, as I lived in the box bordering Kennedy, Eglington, Birchmount, and St.Clair. Been there since 76.
4:25 so funny to see they actually installed an action man wait button there! I don't think I've ever seen one out here in my entire life.
Johnny Strides is such a masochist, boldly going where no sensible person would go! When he gets finished trudging on all the arterials of Toronto we'll have to elect him to be the mayor because he will be the only one who knows where everything is!
🙂
Go Scarborough 🎉
Thanks for the nice stroad stroll Johnny!😊 Scarborough reminds me of HTown suburbs minus the crosstown LRT. Keep up the great work - this was nice change of scenery!👍
Yes, Hakimi is the founder of Hakim Optical
@31:17 I remember when I lived in Toronto aka Scarborough my grandparents lived on the 14th floor in an apartment and I use to see that Bell Tower all the time lol
Queen Elizabeth II opened the Golden Mile in 1954 if you go in the Golden Mile they used to have pictures showing her ( The Queen) opening it. Behind the movie theaters is the Eglinton Bus Garage on Comstock Rd.
the O'Connor LRT stop is probably named that way because they built at the Eglinton & O'Connor intersection which is just east of Victoria Park. I would imagine that stop would've been named Victoria Park had they built it on the west side of the Victoria Park & Eglinton intersection
Another fine presentation from Mr.Strides!
There *will* be some limited signal priority for the LRT. Essentially it has a schedule which accounts for a certain amount of time waiting at reds. If the train starts running late and falling behind schedule, it has the capability to extend greens or shorten reds to get through the intersection faster.
The current 34 Eglinton East route will indeed be drastically adjusted to run parallel with Line 5, renaming it to just 34 Eglinton. It will also replace the 32 Eglinton West bus as well. The route will serve as another alternative to the LRT and especially to other places that are a long walk from the nearest station.
I worked the 34 Eglinton East route when I worked at Eglinton division from 2005 to 2015. I remember when construction was very active in this area.
Wow , can believe how the area has changed. My parents owned The Music Store in Eglinton Square back in the 80s.
And that Bell Tower is pretty high I sure would not want to climb it 😂
I love that you crossed Eglinton at O'Connor DRIVE and couldn't figure out why the stop is called O'Connor. Even after looking at the downtown skyline through O'Connor Drive
I have not gone to Kennedy Station seen the last time I went on Line 3 (which was on July 18, 2023)
4:40 The Scarborough RT's "turning loop" over Kennedy station entrance wasn't used as such, and rail section had been removed so a train can no longer turn around. The second track in the SRT Kennedy platform was covered over long ago so all in-outbound trains use the one. The loop was only used to store trains if necessary.
The loop was originally built for street cars. The RT rolling stock could not negotiate such a tight curve
Although constructions been such a nightmare, Line 5 will bring so much more opportunities to the people of Scarborough and I hope the new transient oriented development changes the terrible walkability in Scarborough. Getting better jobs near the core seems possible now.
Excellent video Johnny. I love it when you do tours of areas I really know. We lived in Newmarket for 20+ years before moving to St.Thomas Ont about 6 years ago. Our son lives on Eglinton in one of the apartment buildings you walked by at @15:30. Cool seeing the LRT in motion, we have seen it being tested a few times when we were visiting. Keep up the great work.
The LRT we have seen in this location is identical to the LRT trains/design used in Kitchener. Those trains can get up to 50 MPH if they want to go that fast. This was an interesting walk to see how this area has grown and life here looks very shopping friendly exasperated. TY for current information and also historic content Johnny.
Great video. I'm a Scarberian from back in the 70s. My old stomping grounds. Looks different from the 70s . Maybe you can go further east in the summer to check out Kingston rd and down to Bluffers Park.
Come on now Johnny, you know when a building gets boarded up in Toronto, it's always going to be replaced by broom closet condominiums.
Know Rexdale stream ....? John Garland & James town cres
Even with the LRT that is some bleak car country!
Toronto is notoriously bad for car traffic. One of the worst in North America.
Given the climate that we live in, who's smart idea was it to build a outdoor transfer requiring a 200m walk with no covered walkway?
So, you've been to Scarborough. Have you found parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme? Remember me to one who lives there. She was once a good friend of mine.

@@lrookiesAh, the delicious Groan. So much more satisfying than mere laughter!
Good morning everyone! Brazil.
Your statement - "That would be a no fun if you were in a wheelchair...." @23:50 - useful comment.
It would be neat to see a compilation video of the many barriers you recognize to accessibility in your walks. The GTA is the least accessible place I have encountered in Canada.
Johnny I just live 15 minutes walk from you are @ Wynford Drive
I think they're going to put condominiums in that Plaza
lol I was hoping he'd reference the Snow song when he saw the prison at 22:00
I like that line "was shuttered due to what can only be described as neglect" -
Absolutely true.
Applies to so many Ontario institutions - eg. Ontario Place, Science Centre etc.
Simple concept - maintain your buildings and infrastructure, don't need to rebuild after 40 years.
And the McLaughlin Planetarium, Ontario Agricultural Museum.
Blame Mike Harris, he started all that crap. My God he only cared about himself and not the people of Ontario.
The LRT has signal priority if they are behind schedule and the bike lane will be upgraded once the project is handed to the city.
4:00 Artsy Turnaround Loop. I think that it'll only be dismantled if the buses that will be running on the defunct Scarborough LRT mix with the buses on ground level, and don' t use their own turnaround loop above ground. It would be quicker for the buses to turnaround on the loop, if one doesn't break down from a mechanical problem; hope and pray !

TPS 41 division used to be right where they are building at the corner of Birchmount and Eglington, Funny you should say that about WWII my dad lived in that area as a small boy Grandpa was overseas fighting in the war and Grandma worked in those factories in the Warden and Eglington area if you go south of Eglinton by the water tower all those little factory like building were the factories from WWII same with Leaside by Eglinton and Laird Dr. were all built during WWII. As well as housing for the workers, the area was called Geco as that was the name of the big plant then they were converted to low-income housing after WWII. This is my neck of the woods I grew up in that area well a little more east in Don Mills.
@@RobertBreedon-c3b The Building being built is the new 41 division.
Good for you for walking in a car-centred neighbourhood. Hopefully line 5 will improve the walkability.
Will clear the way of buses to fit even MORE cars 😁
The buses will be running from what I was told with reduced amount of buses. Some people complained the lrt stops are too spread out. To be clear toronto has some of the shortest distance between bus stops around 250 meters in some places. A more suitable distance between stops should 500 meters to 750 meters. These short distance really slow down the buses but make it more convenient for the public.
Nice video. Great to see the LRT testing.
Thank you for _not_ having music in your video. Kennedy Station looks really clean (I'm from Vancouver, so anything looks clean to me.) but what's with all the pigeons?
Wow haven't been in Kennedy Station for at least 7 years I used to be a TTC Operator before I retired I used to drive the 116, 34, 43 and the 86 when I was out of the Eglinton Garage what a mess it is. I finished my career at Queensway Garage in 2018 been retired since. I do miss driving the busses and the people I worked with. If they ( the Ontario Government had of let the TTC build it the thing would have been opened by now Mertolinx is a joke )
you walked my whole route to work lol
good morning everyone
Will only be in the testing phase for another 14 years
I am always at McDonald's @25:45 lol
Good morning
when you mentioned the history you should have mentioned the name of the indigenous tribe the land belonged to before the European settlers
Oh, I live in this building that in front of Ioneview station 😂😂😂
This video makes one want to play Cities Skylines: Snowfall!
It may be auto-centric, but it's a perfect area for light rail (now, let's see an eastbound LRT line.)
Those bike lanes are a nightmare! I would not want to cycle on that stretch of Eglinton, let alone allow my kids to ride along there. This is what we get with too many car-brained on city council. They would say "Here's your stupid bike lane. Are you happy now?" and I would say "Oh thanks. That stripe of paint will definitely protect me from the heavy traffic going 60-70km/h"
Ждём с нетерпением 👌😍
My guess it will be 2025 before the Crosstown LRT is fully operational. And not until the early 2030s before it's running from Renforth to Kennedy.
If the TTC actually got these streetcars rollin, i wouldn’t need to roll the car around here nearly as much 🤣
Good Luck with those LRT Trains. OC Transpo has the exact same trains and nothing but problems with the Line & Trains?
oc don't use Bombardier Flexity Freedom
@@o67_ant OPPS your right, got them mixed up with the Alston LRTs
Weldone bro ❤
The new trains look cool but it was a terrible decision to not completely segregate the line from the street traffic.
Next walk idea. Heartland centre to Square one mall in Mississauga
The bike lane should be beside the walk path not the road....
Полностью согласна, у нас в городе Тюмень (Россия) велосипедные дорожки расположены рядом с пешеходными и отделяются от проезжей части газонами с деревьями. Очень удобно, безопасней.
@@МаринаПархимович-м1и
Wow ! Tyumen has some beautiful churches!
Ух ты ! В Тюмени красивые церкви!
That half shut down plaza got bought by TAS they are just sitting on it, nothing submitted yet maybe waiting to see how the Crosstown pans out.
Also caught your mistake with the bell tower you said 192 feet instead of 492 lol
I just looked up the rent for 2223 Eglinton and … I’m never moving back to Toronto.
very interesting to see kennedy station surrounded by nothing but parking lots and roads as soon as you exit
Some of this area used to be farmland that my great grandfather owned. Wonder what it would be worth now lmao
Can anyone know what's the name of the company that runs this street car ,thank you
Someone needs to let the pigeons outside 😊
What's the name of the company that runs this streetcar pls
This is not a company. Is a transit commission, TTC.
Yaaa
I thought Crosstown LRT had opened??? Still testing?
Yes, they’re still testing. Line 5 is scheduled to open in September.
@@busfanforeverthere is no opening date yet announced other than when they start the three months of service testing is when we will be given one
@@ThomasJM TTC is planning for September 2024
@@davidbrowne3761 that doesn't mean anything until Metrolinx makes an announcement. They had the same thing in their budget last year as well
Stroadesia, isn't it? 😐
Через 16 часов, у меня это будет 19 часов вечера значит, запомню, жду!
is that a mcdonalds in the thumbnail?
The LRT system will most likely be a failure and it will last probably 10 years and it will be rebuilt as a sky train with no stupid intersection stops and riders have to run across busy traffic just to catch a slow transit system you are walking faster than that
The OC Transpo LRT in Ottawa has already been a failure for so many years.
@@busfanforever this is sad am really not here to hate on public transportation but just this system seems backwards there are so many accidents on the interactions already from drivers so when an accident happens nothing will move how does the train keep going hopefully we learn from mistakes
It should have been elevated on that section to Kennedy
What an absolute boondogle this thing has been. Years behind, way over budget. Complete mismanagement and these idiots (metrolinx) want to do the same to Hamilton.
Canada=incomplete nation😂. Sorry, but sadly true
Your a goof
