Midway through 2023, I enjoyed listening to the Comics explained breakdown of this event which lead me to wanting to pick up the Omnibus for the 1984 run as well as the paperback version of this run... Which quickly lead me into collecting 75+ omnibuses since then, this will be a huge title for me. Will be aiming to grab that BattleWorlds title too. Great review as always
One of the most satisfying stories I’ve read,seen or heard has to be this Hickman run on everything. From Shield (which to me is like a preamble) to FF to Avengers/New Avengers and ending here in secret wars. The opening of his FF run with Reed proclaiming he will “solve everything” to the end of Secret Wars was just incredible. Great review

@@WarBrer247 Dont go that way, comics are really complicated. There are old readers from the 60s and 70s that dont care about The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen. Some new readers loved House of X/Dawn of X, and dont care about Crisis on Infinite Earths or the Claremonts X-men from the 80s. Spider-Man Clone saga got an omnibus wich is sold out. There are people that loved Final Crisis. You can give bad reviews if you dont like it, but dont make this a huge deal, you will just waste energy.

I got the original omnibus Hickman Avengers book and Time is Running out Omnibus Book that lead up to Secret Wars. And also the deluxe Secret Wars hard back book as well. I recommend this omnibus book, because it got plenty of great stories and beautiful artwork and lots of surprises in this big Marvel comic book event. What I have not got is the Secret Wars : Battle world omnibus book. That I will have to contact my local comic book shop to order it for me. Excellent review Omar 📚👍👍

Just watching this video makes me want to do my first re-read of the entire Hickman Saga (first in order) and I only finished the missing Ultimate part before reading Secret Wars last year.

I got the hardcover. I liked Hickmans ideas in Avengers and FF, but I can live without those. However SW, Im glad to have the book on my shelf. It really worked as the end of the Marvel Universe.

Another great enthusiastic review Omar ❤ For anyone confused or interested, Secret Wars 0 (Free Comic book day) is included in the original Secret Wars OHC - it's at the very end - pretty dumb place to put it Marvel 😡 I have Hickman Avengers omnibus 1&2 and the Secret Wars OHC so l really can't see a reason to buy this. The only way the SW omnibus is in any way superior is the fact they put the zero issue at the front of SW rather than the back 😂. If you don't have the OHC but do have the 2 Hickman Avengerss that's A LOT of double dipping. I really think they should have released a reprint of the OHC to give people a real choice Because l know the Hickman Avengers reprints sold A LOT. But the OHC is OOP and going for silly money.

Another option l guess - if you have both Hickman Avengers omnis would be to get the TPB Secret Wars which is really cheap and very available. The fate of an Omni fan. 😉 But if I look at current prices for that Secret Wars OHC unused, it looks like I would save a lot of money if I bought the Avengers Vol. 2 Omni and the Secret Wars Omni if I wanted all those stories. So now I have to decide if I want both in oversized format. The event seems to make sense oversized so the TPB won't do it for me. These days I usually prefer to buy e-comics if I can't have a hardcover.

A part of me really wants to buy this omnibus but I just can't justify getting it when I already own the Hickvengers Omnis + the Secret Wars OHC & the Last Days OHC.
Avengers TRO + Secret Wars 2015 core series is a good mapping for this event, all the essentials in one volume. Maybe I would have tried to include Ultimate End because it details the final incursion confrontation from the 1610 PoV. I hope they reprint the Secret Wars "Companion" Omni too and update it in case the first edition excluded some of the crossovers & tie ins.
So happy with this omni don’t care about the double dip my favourite run and event of all time! Also paper quality is better than the original ohc so day one purchase for me!

Followed that to Secret Wars and then went back and grabbed all the back issues from Hickman’s time on everything from Avengers, New Avengers, FF, Secret Warriors. I have the Hickman Avengers in omnibus now but never got the Secret Wars OHC so ordered this one. Don’t care that it double dips. I really wanted this event in oversized format. Getting Battleworld too!
If they just added secret Wars to his Avengers Volume 2 omni, I would have definitely gotten this. Alas it's just adding the last arc that leads to Secret Wars. That Cheung cover looks great though. Would have been my choice.

I really enjoyed Hickman's FF run and I consider it top 3 of all-time. However, his Avengers and Secret Wars runs were a significant letdown, particularly in comparison to the brilliance of his FF. In fact, I do not think one can separate this SW event from his avengers run. My reading experience felt average overall. While there were numerous promising plotlines, many came across as rushed, recycled, or derivative (whether we like it or not, the incursions concept bears undeniable similarities to Crisis on Infinite Earths). The execution of the storylines left much to be desired, with character development either minimal or inconsistent e.g. Captain America’s obsessive pursuit of Stark, for instance, felt ludicrous given the looming multiversal extinction threat. When it comes to Secret Wars, the true standout is Esad Ribić’s phenomenal artwork. The storyline, on the other hand, feels flat and like a rehash of the '80s version with even less excitement that at the time, leaving little in the way of lasting impact. Objectively speaking, I wouldn't say that Hickman's Avengers and his SW are mediocre like some people do in the comments, yet those that praise it as a masterpiece and as the best Avengers run and Marvel Event ever are probably victims of recency bias and herding behaviour as well. And I repeat again, I love Hickman's FF run but his Avengers and SW felt like a big disappointment after reading FF. I respect the people that enjoyed Hickman's SW, yet no need to create a narrative to suit one's personal tastes. History will decide whether or not his SW remain as an event to be remembered or as another forgettable one.
From my experience of Hickman's other work, he creates these great, massive concepts but rarely nails it in the execution. I'm thinking Nightly News, Red Mass for Mars and Decorum. East of West gets a lot of love, but I haven't read it, so I can't comment if it comes across like the ones I've mentioned above.

No, this omnibus collects the full Secret Wars story, which isn't included in those omnis you mentioned, but also a bunch of Avengers issues that lead into Secret Wars as well. If you have Hickman's 2nd Avengers omnibus, all of these extra issues would previously be collected in there, and you'd end up double dipping. You can just buy the Secret Wars paperback and you should be good. The main problem here is that Marvel won't reprint Secret Wars by itself in oversized hardcover, so if you want it to match the rest of your Hickman omnis, they force you to double dip.
Was semi confused if this was the OTHER Secret Wars Omnibus coming out (how secret are they if we're having so many blasting around xD?). But not super interested in this one.....also the single issue covers aren't in the actual places they would be for each issue and ONLY thrown in the back? Absolutely atrocious to me....part of the charm of these for me IS getting to the end of an issue with a cliffhanger, or closing chapter and then on the other side or other page, BAM get that glorious cover to tell us whats to come next (I doubly prefer when they leave those issue covers untouched with the title & issue # etc). It just feels the way it should be xP....

Hate to say it, but this being filled out with half of Hickman's Avengers vol 2 is a massive dropped ball for me. Most who get this, I imagine, will already have the prior 2 Avengers omnis. This should have been the OHC repackaged as an omni. Thin, sure, but we have other thin omnis...
You forgot to mention that the 2015 Secret Wars also has history to the Ultimate Universe if you read the stories especially with the Ultimate Fantastic Four and The Maker.... It's not just the main 616 universe that has tied to this. Jonathan Hickman should have covers in the middle of the story because in my opinion it acts like breaking up different chapters....Most of Everyone knows who the maker is which the Standard Cover spoiled it 😂 jk lol!!!

Secret Wars is rightfully acclaimed dude. And also, more old material is being published now then ever, this is such an insane thing to complain about. Characters have tons of omnis out now that had zero or 1 or 2 out a few years ago.

If you have Hickman's 2nd Avengers omnibus, all of these extra issues would previously be collected in there, and you'd end up double dipping. You can just buy the Secret Wars paperback and you should be good. The main problem here is that Marvel won't reprint Secret Wars by itself in oversized hardcover, so if you want it to match the rest of your Hickman omnis, they force you to double dip.
Was semi confused if this was the OTHER Secret Wars Omnibus coming out (how secret are they if we're having so many blasting around xD?).
But not super interested in this one.....also the single issue covers aren't in the actual places they would be for each issue and ONLY thrown in the back? Absolutely atrocious to me....part of the charm of these for me IS getting to the end of an issue with a cliffhanger, or closing chapter and then on the other side or other page, BAM get that glorious cover to tell us whats to come next (I doubly prefer when they leave those issue covers untouched with the title & issue # etc). It just feels the way it should be xP....

Hate to say it, but this being filled out with half of Hickman's Avengers vol 2 is a massive dropped ball for me.
Most who get this, I imagine, will already have the prior 2 Avengers omnis.
This should have been the OHC repackaged as an omni.

You forgot to mention that the 2015 Secret Wars also has history to the Ultimate Universe if you read the stories especially with the Ultimate Fantastic Four and The Maker.... It's not just the main 616 universe that has tied to this. Jonathan Hickman should have covers in the middle of the story because in my opinion it acts like breaking up different chapters....Most of Everyone knows who the maker is which the Standard Cover spoiled it 😂 jk lol!!!

Original secret wars stinks and was a cash grab to sell toys. The only people who think it is good are the ones who read it as a kid.
It’s such a shame that Marvel refuses to reprint so much of their past for these modern stories that aspire to be mediocre. Especially when compared to the past output of a once great publisher.
Secret Wars is rightfully acclaimed dude. And also, more old material is being published now then ever, this is such an insane thing to complain about. Characters have tons of omnis out now that had zero or 1 or 2 out a few years ago.
If only the past material sold as well as this “mediocre” stuff..
