I am hosting this using nucleus coop mod and parsec soda. If anyone knows how to get more than 4 xinput working on this with nucleus coop please let me know! I have tried the xinput reroute script edit and all 8 gamepads will show up but still only 4 pads will work. (only 4 of the 8 running instances sees the controls.) I would like to do more players on a single screen. You can also host and connect these game over the internet. It doesn't have to be local like in my video.

What is neat about sm64ex, its all network based. Even the 4 instances I am running in the video. Top left is the host and the other 3 connected to localhost (127.0.0.1). I don't think there is a limit to how many players can join a game. You can do it over the internet also. This was more of a Parsec proof of concept. I have done 12 players in one game with 3 PCs on lan. There is a way to connect to games through Discord but I haven't tried that.

@@EmberTheFlareon3579 when you compile it in the sm64pcbuilder, dont include the render96 assets and it will run a lot lighter. It is already very light. Just try and see. You can always recompile another one with different settings in the sm64pcbuilder

you can choose up to 4 different characters from the menu. Just figured it out.

Now imagine this with model replacement and it was Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach (or Daisy, since you have to save peach and playing as her would make it weird)
there is model replacement. there are 4 model slots. when I compiled this build I set it to all render96 marios. you can change the models in game before starting a netplay lobby

Are these all seperate screens edited into one screen, or was it actually splitscreen like this?
actual splitscreen. I am using the nucleus coop app to assign 4 different controller slots to 4 instances of sm64ex-coop on a single computer and nucleus also makes the 4 look neat with no title bars etc. The 4 instances are networked together. So top left hosted on the network and the other 3 joined 127.0.01 (localhost). You can do more than 4 players in one world and it doesn't have to be splitscreen, you can run the game on your PC and your friend runs it on theirs and one of you host and the other puts in the IP address of the other and connects. I have done up to 12 players in one world for testing.
I might be wrong here but is each players world synced with each other? I know with some coop online Mario 64 mods you're basically a ghost in the players world and you can't kill the same enemies as it's all client side but in this footage it looks like literally everything is synced is that's what's happening here?
this is the sm64ex coop mod of the sm64 PC port decompilation. Each screen is its own instance of the sm64 exe and they are all networked together. So to answer your question, yes all players are in the same world. If a players joins a level on a different star than another player's star, the coin counts will not be synced along with certain level elements/enemies as each player is on a "different star" but when players enter a level and choose the same star, you can work together for stars,100 coin, etc. There is player interaction and collision too. You can also do more than 4 instances and players can also connect in through the internet.

Are you using Nucleus Coop? Search Mario PC port in script search in nucleus and download. You drag each gamepad to each screen portion. Nucleus takes care of the split screen and binds each controller to each instance of mario64. Sometimes it doesn't work. It will either work or it wont. When it messed up for me, I searched and deleted ALL nucleus content and and sm64ex configuration files and redid everything from scratch. You will have to search appdata
oaming, appdata\local, and your documents folder I think. I had this happen to me once so I deleted all of my data and re-built the sm64ex experimental in sm64pcbuilder.

When doing your build, choose sm64ex coop, then choose experimental if you want more than 2p.

@@moltenbastian3248 yes, when compiling with sm64pcbuilder2, don't select any of the render96 stuff. It will load a lot faster too if you leave it vanilla.

How do I find the sm64ex coop in nucleus co-op?
it is listed as "super mario 64 pc port' last time I searched for scripts. when linking the exe, it is repos\sm64ex-coop-unstable\build\us_pc sm64.us.f3dex2e.exe Just know that it might be different for you. Mine is from last year and I never updated.

yes you can do that already. When I recorded the vid, I had render96 mario in all 4 slots. There are now more models available in the render96 format for the other characters.
@@justase64 The only problem is how do you do that or is there a download ready because I want to play on split screen through nucleuscoop, I have one here that only accepts 2 players if I try to enter more players it says that the room is full and it can't enter nobody only 2 can you give me a step by step?
@@jonh0 I don't quite understand. Download the links in the description and follow the steps in sm64pcbuilder to build your version of sm64ex coop. You can choose which assets you want there. When in game, before hosting a game or connecting the clients in, you can choose which character you want in the main menu. You cannot change character once in game. You can have over 16 players in a single world (just not splitscreen, separate computers)

@@jonh0 yes, nucleus can assign up to 4 gamepads for the mario splitscreen so 4 max on one PC. There are ways to do more but you have to use a different app that allows more xinput.

can multiple players exit the level over the same star or do the others have to exit the level then
anyone can be in any level at the same time. If multiple players join on the "same star", they are basically all in the same level instance so coins are all shared between those who join on the same star, if there is someone else in the level that joined on a different star, you might not see them and their coin count will be different. If multiple players join on the first star of the level and someone gets that star, the rest of the players need to exit level and rejoin on a different star in order for the level to change. (tower on whomp fortress doesnt spawn until the whomp is defeated, you must leave and rejoin on the new "star" so see the map changes. Im rambling but i hope it helps some.
@@justase64 okay i see, imo the behaviour that everyone is in his own instance should be configurable, i think it would be nice if all players are ported to and exit the levels at the same time
@@_inetuser there is a setting in the menu to exit level after stars. I have it turned off.
