    As a heads up, US submarines at least no longer use the 6 hour shifts and instead use 8 hour shifts. The 6 hour shifts were found to be causing a lot of issues mentally and physically. A major one was that submariners were not getting proper sleep because of how short the time was

      Yeah, it was crazy. Each crew member had 18 hour "days". 6 hours on watch; 6 hours to eat, study, and do chores; and 6 hours to sleep. Th Navy thought that an 18 hour day would get more work out of them. It was assumed that they didn't need a normal sleep schedule because they seldom see sunlight, I suppose.

You would see some water but it would be mostly the sounds of creaking metal and then the submarine would immediately implode on itself. This would be and with how cramped the interiors of the submarines are your death would be almost instant. Or atleast I would hope.

    I’m glad you mentioned the Trieste! I wish you had mentioned the men who had been aboard her as she plunged the depths of the Challenger Deep for the first time. Lieutenant Don Walsh and Oceanographer Jacques Picard. Their names deserve remembrance. The first men to go to the depths of the ocean and return successfully. Their harrowing experience was groundbreaking and has largely been ignored by the world at large.
    Just my two cents. Not that you asked or anything. 😉👍🏼

Jacques Picard’s father, August, created the bathyscaphe after making successful flights in a pressurized sphere he designed himself to the outer edges of the atmosphere, studying cosmic rays in the upper atmosphere, and setting records while doing so. To say that this father and son were accomplished is a simplified statement.

    Incredible video. I wouldn't have think for a second that the search of the Titanic wreck was a cover for military purposes.
    Also , yes, we french decided to put f-ing heavy battleship cannons on a submarine. God it looked gorgeous.

    Damn.... the fact they memorialize their crew with such an old time mariner belief is kind of bittersweet that we’ve still not grown past it. “On eternal patrol,” knowing how terrified those men were to die so tragically- in a cold, steel coffin hundreds and thousands of feet below the surface is so saddening.
    I really like that they keep their spirits alive in this way. I hope their patrols are peaceful.

      Current subschool student here: yeah, it’s pretty intense. Around 20% of my basic enlisted submarine school class was disqualified from submarines due to mental or physical issues, and there will be even more in concurrent schools.
