      zeldafreak701 yes. But Hank is humble about it. He would welcome anyone interested in propane with open arms. That black guy is more toxic than the chemicals he put is in his flowers. Just like my fellow gamers in the Smash and Sonic community. But I digress.

    • @DiddyKongVsLuigi
      @DiddyKongVsLuigi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      @Spartan Charge DaYum No I didn’t. I could have said “Man in Purple shirt,” “Man with deep voice,” etc.
      I said black because that’s what came to mind. Like Hank, you could say “White Guy,” “Guy with Glasses,” or “Propane Guy.” Those are things you could say when describing Hank to someone when talking about the show. What comes to your mind first? I’m guessing “Propane Guy” but that may or may not be true.
      Nothing wrong with calling him a propane man right? Hank’s more than an assist manager, he’s also a dad, husband, Texan, etc. any of those would be fine.
      Same with the black man. He’s black. So what? It’s okay. There is nothing wrong with calling someone black.

    • @DiddyKongVsLuigi
      @DiddyKongVsLuigi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      @Spartan Charge DaYum don’t let a real SJW brain wash you. It’s actually racist NOT to call a black person black. If you call him/her African American, and he/she is actually Jamaican or from Chili, you’d end up lookin like a jerk. Lol.
      Like calling someone Japanese when they are Philippine. 💁🏻

    I love how this scene flips the trope of the "wise learned charcter brushing off the bullies and taking the protagonist under their wing to teach them too be the master" to the master is a actually a hollow shell of a person haunted by the stress of being a master.

    • @PaperbackWizard
      @PaperbackWizard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +201

      It also subverts the trope about the "wise black man". I mean, this guy's obviously "seen things", but it hasn't turned him into a folksy janitor or anything like that.

    • @PaperbackWizard
      @PaperbackWizard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +86

      @topher nolastname I'm not saying he wasn't wise. The point of the "wise black man" trope is they're only there so they can be a mentor to a white character, like Morpheus to Neo, or Morgan Freeman to...well, everyone. This guy took one look at Hank and said "Noooope, you're on your own".

    • @maylabrown4584
      @maylabrown4584 2 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      @topher nolastname Saying he was the wisest character in the show is crazy, the only reason he made that comment regarding Bobby was cause he was reminded of what he had to go through as a kid due to his own parents, so he took that anger out on Hank since he didn't want that to happen to another kid.
      It's not a Wise Master Trope, it's a Tired Master Trope.

      lmao right. Its a part of his character. He worries so much about his masculinity to the point that he brings attention to things no one else really cares or even thinks about. It makes for a nice joke or plot-point with him, especially when he has to dealing with Bobby's hobbies. My first time watching the show i never realized just how socially awkward Hank is but I think it fits him as a character.

    • @XenoJehuty84

      Hank's main flaw was not accepting Bobby being well a clone of himself or his own peers. He often would project his own wants, and expectations on Bobby, rather than accept Bobby was his quirky self. Now I'm not going to full-on demonize Hank because parenting is no easy game, and compared to his own Dad, Hank is a saint compared to Cotton. For any stupid thing Hank does as a parent, he will never traumatize Bobby in the same ways Cotton did to him, and plague him with eternal self-doubt and self-rightousness. At least my take of it, and while we can analysize the writing to hell and back and the 'intent vs. actual outcome' of the themes, but at the end of the day I see Hank as a good if very flawed Dad.
