There doesn’t need to be a private property sign. There is a gate. It doesn’t matter if it is open. The gate denotes private property. The law is clear on the test - “would a reasonable person conclude that this is private property?” Indeed they would. You had no lawful business with the Company. Just fly your drone from outside and pop off. Easy.
When he kept saying "where does it say public?" you should have asked him where it says "private". Also when he said you haven't got permission to fly your drone because it was a private company you should have told him that they don't own the air space. Otherwise for a new auditor, it was good. Keep it up lad. I've subscribed.
