This exercise made me think of the bass line in Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon." The technique that you demonstrated is well-suited to playing this song.
I'll try this. I usually play simandl due to old, worn and damaged hands and wrists not to mention an alien short pinky so anything that may help my fretting is welcome. After I commit the notes to muscle memory I put the backing track into Transcribe at 60%. I usually get up to 80-90% quite quickly, but that last hop to 100% is always a struggle. Some days making 80% is all my hands can do. When shifting remember to take your thumb with your hand. This little exercise will be "interesting" for me.
Why everone who do lesson about playing basic warmup exercises keeps doing „click for free tab!!!111one!!” and then after click its „this free tab for something you can write down watching video is only if you subscribe for newsletter about things you dont want to read”? Anyway, this is decent lesson with good footage and proper explaination.
The reason why is because it’s the basics of marketing… and is principal many folks have used to build successful business that really help students. Anyway, I’m glad you like the lesson!
Excellent exercise, James. Sadly, as ever, despite filling in my email address I never get the free PDF sent to me. I don't what it is but it never works for me. I thought I'd try again after a long hiatus, but the technical problem remains. Never mind, keep up the great work.
Hi David Please can you contact my team support@ebassguitar.com and ask them to look in to it? Also, you can get all the free pdfs in side our membership… so it should be easy to hunt down.
Great as always. In spots such as at 11:25 you show using the 10th fret of the D string but I don't see your fingers going there. Is there an error in the tab or am I missing something?
Can you tell how can I revise my huge list of songs.bcz i have learnt 300 songs till now without tabs only by ear then also I get stuck to my previous ones when I learn new songs
And if you listen carefully you will hear the instructor tell you which finger is hitting the Fret as he is moving his hands. At least I heard him say in the last exercise. But I agree if you just watch the hand on the fretboard it is often hard to see which finger is being utilized and where
Try bass Buzz guy Josh as an alternative. He's pretty darn specific about his fingering and it's pretty clear visually speaking. He does great beginner bass videos
OK. So, what's the problem with the way the bass guitar is built? I note you have a Sadowsky in your hands. I'm sure Roger would like to be let in on the problem and how to re-design the bass.
I would have subscribed if I could have heard the bass. Your " background music " was way to Brite drowning out the bass lessons. Your vocal covered over the base notes. You not using an acoustic bass . It may sound good to you in your studio. But you can't really hear it.
Thanks for your feedback. I’ve taken listen on my end and the mix seems to work on my iPhone. What we’ve discovered is it can dramatically from device to device and there are many variables. I’m sorry it didn’t work on your end. Do subscribe the channel because the information is still solid and will help many players along…
Nice lesson. Nice video. Good luck from a beginning bassist.
As a somewhat better than intermediate level player( my opinion), I'm always up for shift drills. Thanks James !
You're welcome, mate! :-)

yes. that song based on the cycle of 4ths and the 2-5-1 progression.
As always, great practical and usable advice!
Thanks for the wonderful feedback... Cheers!

Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Is there a way that you can use or demonstrate the technique that Sian Unwin does for small hands? It would be helpful ❤
I like it

I’ll look into that. Use the fingering I explain in the video. The notes stay the same…

Can just one bass instructor make a solid effort to show us where what note his fingers are touching. We cannot learn at the speed you are teaching.
Absolutely… that’s why we give pdfs / tab… so people can take it apart slowly.
Also please experiment with the function to slow down videos in TH-cam…

Hey James, thanks. What strings are you using for this video?
On this bass I use elixers….
Nice exercise and explanation but isn't the first finger on the fifth fret called third position rather than fifth as you say at 2:23?
On the bass guitar the positions line up with fretboard using the first dinger. I think you maybe thinking of the upright bass…
The link to Download the Free PDF is not working.
Not for me either
We’re fixing it!
@@ebassguitar Working now :) Thanks for fixing it.
I found that it’s more talking than demonstration, it would be helpful to demonstrate as you talk
I am a one finger per fret advocate so I don't really like ring & middle finger going in the same fret but this will be good exercise for many.
This is a one finger per fret exercise with position shifting!

Should be sorted now!

@@ebassguitar it is the same on my end, iPad or iPhone, I hope it gets worked out.
I had no problem hearing the bass on my android phone. Very good exercise and learnt a lot 🎉
Great stuff! Thank you for the drills!
