    amazing capture of the ground movement,it's a rarity to see a video with such an accurate example of how the ground does actually move during an earthquake (it's hard to see in some earthquake videos) but definately not in this one!

    I'm just encountering this now, but I wanted to say you have a beautiful home! I love how open it is and how much light and fresh air you can get while in the kitchen.

    @absfam10 i found that amazing too the trees moving outside like that.
    gee you must be getting more quakes and aftershocks than in LA.

    I love how you guys are like 'Yep, just another earthquake' and when Adelaide has an earthquake (3.8 and a 3.4), we all freak out and it becomes front page news. I felt the 3.8 in 2010, and it crossed my mind that it might of been an earthquake but no one in my family said anything so I forgot about it until the next day when it was front page news. And I slept through the 2nd one last year. Adelaide has such strong earthquakes...
    Glad your family however, is okay :)

    Wow, what a great capture of the motion of the quake, the camera really picked up the sideways movement well. These Christchurch quakes seem especially violent and quite sharp, I assume because they are so close to the city.

    We had been having alot of large aftershocks, I decided to leave the camera recording every day for a few months, kept the aftershocks, deleted the rest.

  • @absfam10
    @absfam10  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    yes, I have heaps on video, only kept the larger noticable ones, 4.0 and up.

    @manyouranidiot True. Kids had bare feet. Had 3 Ranch slider doors open ready to run if 2nd shake. (I expected this 6.0 after the 5.8. As in June had two large ones an hour or so apart.

    @DeflatedPumpkin I think hat has something to do with the waves that come just before the actual shaking pwaves maybe? They are learnign that earthquakes give off way more energy then we imagine-Guess we just witnessed the poof effect.

    any possibility you could post them as a compilation?
    it would give a good idea of what it was like after the big quakes for those who didn't go through it (LOTS of aftershocks!)

    I feel like earthquakes always come at a quiet and peaceful time of the day, it’s like Mother Earth is trying to ruin the moment

  • @MattTheTubaGuy
    @MattTheTubaGuy 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you have any others apart from the two you have uploaded?
    I know it was really quiet for several months before the December quakes, but I'm pretty sure there was still the occasional shake.

    How come is the camera out I mean it is odd he had no idea that there was going to be a earthquake

    • @rickh3714
      @rickh3714 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, they had 10,000 plus aftershocks. I mean cameras are up to record them in case they are mag 5s or more. Inevitably some were. Quakes are NOT rare in many parts of NZ and it is highly likely SOME of our 5M people have set cameras to record them.
      Did you find it suspicious that the very first plane to hit the twin towers was recorded in an almost ideal panning shot?
      I know I initially did. But then NY has 10 million plus citizens, many even back then had video cameras. I still think it was somewhat fortuitous. But not this.

    Its good the rest of the world know's not to overreact when this happens. Trust me, if this happened in california, people would litterally flip shit. people here already panic if its just a small 3.0 quake.

    I lived 1 mile from an epicenter in March of 2014, in S. CA. Very different and much much more violent when you are close to the epicenter. I've been in much larger quakes my whole life, but that one was really terrifying and was the first time i saw literally everything go flying across the room with glass breaking everywhere. Kinda ironic that you commented that the exact same day there was a 8.4 earthquake here

    • @BeckerAviation
      @BeckerAviation 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was that the La Habra quake? I was in a very close 5,4 quake in August 2nd 2017 near Las Condes (Chile), where I live. It's really different. Much closer, louder and faster, like a quick sharp knife cut.

      Abe Coulter In this footage their about 15-20 miles from the epicentre from the 6.0 quake, the earthquake occurred off the coast in Pagasus Bay off Christchurch NZ, a 5.8 quake occurred 70 mins prior to this one! ✌🏻
