- This is episode ten in the Mansions of Madness board game painting series - the Deep One. It's one of the baddies that you'll face in this co-op horror themed exploration game.
The Plastic Canvas is a miniature painting channel focused at beginner painters, or anyone that likes watching minis being painted, unedited, from start to finish. I'm using this to document my progression in the hobby and I hope that with what I share about what I'm learning, I can help you make some good early steps in your time in the hobby too. Happy painting everyone!

You knocked this model out of the park! Very instructive for me, thank you.
Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you found it useful :)
That’s great work, well done
Thanks Lawrence! I look back at this vid now and it's pretty rough, but I'm glad you liked it :)
The Plastic Canvas I’d love to see more, I’m only just starting to consider painting my mansions minis. Never done it before but I want it to be good, yet fun.
Well there's 22 episodes in my Mansions series so there's plenty more for you to see! So you haven't painted any minis yet?
I just painted one of the four of mine today. Totally gave him the same color scheme as a green Murloc from WoW
Ooh nice. Yeah green would work well for him. Like I said (at least I think I said it, it's been a while since I made this one :P) I steered away from green because so many of them have brown/green in their artwork and I wanted a bit more variety. Would you be happy to put it on twitter or instagram and tag me so I can see it?
@@theplasticcanvas of course bud, I shot you a message on Instagram!
Saludos y buen trabajo.
what brushes did you use?
For priming I just used one of my old synthetic brushes that I bought from an art store that was past it's use by date. For all the other painting, I used a mix of sizes from my Army Painter: Wargamer set. Mostly the regiment size but the character one as well. I think they're a really good brush for how much they cost.
please put the name of the color on screen.
Nice work but you really should Slow down The speed when you paint details e. g. Teeth.
Just my thoughts
Thanks for the feedback Lars. That's a pretty old video so they're done a bit differently now. I now do the whole video in real time but just with more editing so that the videos don't go for too long. If you check out one of the more recent ones I'd be interested to hear your thoughts :)
@@theplasticcanvas of course i will!😉
Why paint this on the base itself with the cardboard insert? Why risk getting paint all over that for no reason?
Because like I said near the start, we glued all the minis down back when we got the game (WELL before I had even thought about getting into painting minis) and I think some of the glue must've got onto the card and stuck it in there. But they're set pretty deep into the base so I don't really see how you could paint it. I definitely don't recommend doing it that way, I just didn't have any other choice.
@@theplasticcanvas I had the same problem so I put masking tape over the base to protect it from any mishaps. I love these minis.
@@0331mike Yeah I did that too with some of the later ones that I painted when I started using spray on primers. One advantage of a brush on primer I suppose - it doesn't get everywhere like spray ons do!
I have to say, I do not understand the geometry of this mini. It looks like their tongue drapes down their chest, but also their lower teeth are detailed and visible. It doesn't make sense.
also lol what is going on with that right foot
Haha. Yeah back when I first started painting I thought these were good minis. How very wrong I was! I mean they're not terrible, but even when you just look at the difference in quality between these and the expansions like Horrific Journeys, you can see they're pretty average. Not a bad starting point though for learning to paint cos there's not a lot of detail.
And is that it's tongue or just like a puffy sort of pouchy thing that's part of it's throat/neck? That's what I thought it was. And I think it just has very flexible ankles :P
