    Joy, I always struggled with hems until you showed how to iron in the hem first and then finish off the edges. Now it works out so much easier and the hem lays flat and the steam a seam is a game changer also. For my dress pants I still prefer a hand sewn hem but for casual pants I like sewing machine hem. With your tutorials and Glenda of SFD Im really getting a lot better with my pants making. I’ve actually been reviewing SFD on using my body blue print with store patterns. I love the fabric you got for those pants and they & the top look great on you.

    I’ve been sewing for about 53 years now since I learned in 4-H when I was 12. For the first time last week I sewed 2 backs and fronts together. I held them up and they looked like something a bow legged person would wear. Hahaha I’m so glad I’m not the only one!!! Love that pattern

    I totally agree that pants should have creases in them. Otherwise they look unkempt to me and sloppy. I think the no crease "fashion look" came about, because people were too lazy to press the creases in, in my opinion. A tip I learned about setting the crease years ago (in the 60's) when I was making lots of poly double knit pants: to use a water/white vinegar mix and spray the crease area. Press with steam, let dry before moving. The crease will set pretty much permanent. I rarely had to touch up the crease with an iron again. I used about 25% vinegar. I usually used a Teflon sheet or silk press cloth to protect the fabric, because sometimes the iron might cause sheen on the fabric. I also folded my pant leg parts the same way you do; the crease will land in the correct vertical leg position when worn. Yours look good on you.

    I've been watching your videos for a long time and searched for your earlier blogs. You are at the same time very precise and entertaining. There is a series of books called "... for Dummies" in all kind of activities. You have already lots of good videos on sewing "your way" as you put it, why don't you write a video book on the subject? You are a very good teacher with humour and you have now more time than when you worked. You could do it in your RV. Looking forward to your next video.

    Hi my friend. When you talked about how you like to iron your hymns on your dresses it reminded me of my sister Joanne wedding dress. My poor mom said every time she looked at Joannes wedding picture she didn’t iron the hem of that dress. So now whenever I look at the picture I see my wonderful sister in her beautiful wedding dress and I hear she didn’t iron him in her dress like I told her to. So yes your mother‘s voice be heard every time you forget to press your clothing. It’s kind of watching you do those beautiful pans.

      Well many moons ago my grandmother bless her heart lived to be 101 1/2 years young she always stuck her hankie or kleenex in her cleavage in her bra LOL She never wore slacks until we teased her to try them and she was in her late 70's at that time. Well she had her slacks special made by a seamstress and made them without..... pockets!!! She didn't want the extra bulk. LOLOL the funny part is I do the same thing putting my kleenex in my cleavage. I took 5 years of sewing classes in junior high and high school and my 6th year I took tailoring. LOVED it. I still sew today (I won't mention my age...but I am way up there in numbers) I also have been a quilter for the last 20 plus years. We always learn new things and keep on sewing for sure. It was not sure fit designs but the other lady with the stretch sewing and very easy style changes. Something else! I’ve been watching your sessions for some time now. Forgive me for being personal, but I’m a little worried that you may be ignoring a medical issue. Your tummy has become noticeably distended of late while the rest of you is staying the same. Dear Joy,
    After spending two, or even more years now... just learning how to adjust commercial patterns so they fit in all the right places - I was ready to give up without ever really getting started. Sewing and pattern drafting never came naturally to me, because I hated math.
    So I relearned my equations, and the meaning of measure twice, cut once. Still I had problems! Don't know it all, but maybe someday.
    Today I bought the Lutterloh Golden Rule system to give me a head start on drafting. Tonight I searched TH-cam pattern reviews for the system.
    Bad fits? I'm sure you know what a Camel Toe is and why it happens. Too many of these Lutterloh pants show those fabric whiskers in the lady area. Too many tops and bottoms looked as if the girls were poured into their pretty cloths. The magic didn't happen because it was a super duper DiVinci inspired Golden Rule method pattern. Nope.
    Right now I am just so grateful to have spent my time with you and some of our other wonderful seasoned sewers, just learning Sweetie. You've been a Joy and shared so much.
    I've been an armchair sewer. Now I've got the tools and the know how to use them.
    Thank you! XOX

    • @Joy4650B
      @Joy4650B  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I totally understand. The Palmer and Pletsch fitting method has worked the VERY BEST of all of them for me. That combined with Surefit Designs gets me a marvelous fit. Our bodies change so much as we age. We have to know how to adjust the paper patterns.

    • @momzilla9491
      @momzilla9491 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Joy4650B Sweetie, please teach the girls how to hide their girls. Adjusting the length of the crotch curve is just as important as getting the waist to shoulder height proportions correct.
      BTW, Did you know that one of your male viewers was fishing for romance on your channel last week? A non-sewer to boot!
      I told him he was in the wrong community.
      Ha!
      My Lutterloh package arrived this morning.
      I will be delving into the math of it all today.
      Going to crack that DiVinci Code!

    You are such a fun teacher, Joy. Thank you for showing the pants fitting, you make it look so easy. I don't have that exact pattern but I do have many that are similar. For months I've been on a quilt jag but it sure would be nice to have some new slacks.

    Mind blown…. Adjust each leg before sewing them together! I have one leg 1” shorter than the other following hip replacement surgery and this makes the legs hang differently which bugs me. But no more. Thank you 😊

    Hey Joy, Enjoying your explanations of how to sew Your type of pants. Thank you for the tip; Hot forgets and cool remembers.
    I'm 62 this year and forget nouns as well. That seam on the inside of the leg is called the "Inseam".
    LOL My tip, if you forget to sew the inseam, no one will want you on their team.

    Hi Joy great tute. Have you ever talked about your re-designed ironing board? I see a lot of quilters adapt their ironing boards. Do you use a "norma" l ironing board too. I can see how I would like a quilters ironing board when sewing.
