      Great filming, really captured a special session - thank you! 9:18 - that blue board wave - can you make out if you see black markings on the bottom (orca/killer whale design in the front half of the board). Not sure if you can zoom or not, I couldn't tell if me watching the clip, but remember a similar wave. Cheers!

    Thanks for the video! I grew up at 48th and Irving. I come back to surf pretty often, but I missed this swell. It's like this a precious few days a year. OB often gets waves this size in the Winter, but usually it's junkier. Occasionally, it's bigger and still surfable, but then the paddle out can be difficult or impossible.

  • @MrLuigiFercotti
    @MrLuigiFercotti 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Grew up just minutes from the ocean (top of the hill above Pacifica), days like this are really rare. To get a big clean swell with calm or off-shore winds, hens-teeth.

    • @KauaiboyRayce
      @KauaiboyRayce 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      From Manor you can usually see all the waves that are uncatchable on this coast XD

    • @MrLuigiFercotti
      @MrLuigiFercotti 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KauaiboyRayce I think it was Thanksgiving 81 we saw an enormous swell from the McCarthy overlook on Sharp Park. So friend and I drove down to the pier, burnt one, and walked out to the end. Was windy and spitting rain. The swell was breaking right the end, and sometimes the lip would hit the pier dead on and would then ring like a bell and shake back and forth. Top of the wave was just a few feet below the bottom the pier, and it was just one swell after another, boom, boom boom ... swells lined up off the horizon.
      It was terrifying and completely awesome, and there was just a handful people there. Only a few idiots like us actually went out.
      Back on safe land, I used the light poles to scale and estimated it was 40 to 50 ft face easy.
      The winters of 81-82 and 82-83 were epic.

    Nobody knows how to ride the barrel in SF...They tried...this is comming from an Aussie who grew up bodysurfing these waves all over Victoria, Australia... It's ok, we don't get awesome tsunami waves in SF that often. Some did well and some got S#$% Mixed. You have to manuver and curl around the wave. Every one was just going in a strait line....Can't go in a strait line through these barrels. I recomend lots of level 3 Yoga and Pilates for better flexibility and manuevering for our next Tsunami waves. Nobody was prepared for this kind of suprising tretchous awesome surf. No Worries Mate! In the Barrel! Whatch Bells Beach Free Surf before the rip curl pro 2019 xo!
