Saw these guys in 1976 or 77 in Perth Australia. Favourite band of all time. Listening to this song made me want to get to Venice with the line, "Through silken waters, my gondola glides & the bridge , it sighs". What a beautiful line. Got to Venice with my wife in 2014 & 2016. Thanks Bryan & RM.
The only thing I ever stole in my life was the first Roxy Album. I was staying with a friend from Boarding school in Rabaul, Papua new Guinea. 1977. I remember the feeling of fright and freedom as I sprinted down the street with the record under my shirt! Class act always Bryan Ferry, Thomson, Jobson, Manzanera et al. Music, art, magic, and poetry combined. How Rappers decide that saying the same word or phrase 24 times, rather than 36 times is art, I know not. Maybe music classes should be free and obligatory?

I quite agree. Paul could sometimes be a bit heavy handed but he gave the track depth, gave it body.. This guy’s snare sounds like something from a toy kit and the tuning on the tom toms is just wrong. Overall a great performance though - as ever with Ferry.

That's 2001, from one of their last excellent concerts. Bryan Ferry is good with the vocals, and the piano intro is wonderful. Here Mr. Ferry's vocals are still better.
Got to agree the Apollo 2001 version is the better. Was there both nights for that show. Seen the song performed many times by Roxy Music but the version on those nights was the best. The long piano intro by Colin Good built up the drama of the song. I can remember, even 21 years on, that my eyes filled up with tears during the song as it was such an emotional performance. You could see from the audience reaction how powerful the performance was. Saw them a week ago at the O2. They didn't play it. Not surprising. I don't Bryan's voice is powerful enough now to carry it off. He is 77 after all!
