Chris, that thermal expansion valve is totally digital. If you ever need to swap one out, pay close attention to the orientation of the cable that links the board to the TXV on the TXV side of the cable. It's a square plug and it can be plugged in at any orientation. There's only one way that works properly. Please learn from our mistakes. Mark the orientation of the cable before you remove it!

We’ve installed a bunch of these QRC heatcraft systems. I’m not a big fan of them either. Last week I had to fix one in a morgue cooler. Luckily they had already taken the bodies out.
Funny I was called out to work on a morgue cooler one time at a hospital it was a 4 passenger cooler so not a big walk in cooler. When they called they were panicking telling me the temps were climbing and they needed me asap. So I told them to make sure all the bodies were out of it and they were asking me what they should do with all of the bodies........ I told them I didnt care so long as they weren't in the cooler when I arrived. (Again this was a 4 door cooler so I would have had to sit on the bodies to get to the evap). When I got there they had them all moved out, where they put them I dont know........ I still laugh about it to this day because I could imagine them around the corner in a hallway for some orderly to stumble upon.....
Yeah I had one QRC like this one. I'm not sure if you're aware that the compressors and repplacment parts are really expensive. Last time we had grounded compressors and warranty was expired so we found out that replacement compressor was rough 3,000 dollars with electronic expansion and everything. we ended up replaced $ 900 404A compressor, analog defrost clock, and changed electronic expansion to TXV , add solenoid valve for more cheap alternative for easy maintenance and repairs.
i work on a lot of residential refrigeration systems and they still cant get the adaptive defrost to work better then a timed defrost. timed defrost just works and works better in my opinion.
I am currently installing a heat craft with beacon 2 for a walk in cooler. Does the evaporator and condenser require communication wire ? This is my first time putting this in. Any guidance would be appropriate
Hi, I just have a quick question? Do the fans run separately based on a load, or they should all be working at the same time when required? Thanks for your time.
I see where you’re coming from. Today I just went to appease the clients because one motor wasn’t working (motor is already ordered and waiting for parts) but it was keeping temperature. I entered test mode on a heat craft intelligen system: sure enough only one fan turns on. This system does have “stir” fan setting but which means it will drop fan speed to 50% (it can do 30-70% variable speed) the issue I’m having is ice up issue = vibration = broke fan blade = other issues but I’ll dive in soon or a co-worker will.
@@David.rivas.alexis I had the same issue David. Moisture penetrating into the freezer box icing up the fun blades. It’s a -30F, so I found the cause of this air intrusion. Gonna replace some door gaskets and run a few defrost cycle to thaw out all the ice accumulated on the drain pan. Thanks for your input!
@@Sudaca-zd2vl bro spot on! That’s exactly what my co worker found out, infiltration through the lineset penetration hole and the door gasket on the bottom. It’s nice to be thorough. I’m glad there’s a solution for almost everything
Interesting that you mentioned issues with smart (or adaptive) defrost . I just went back to a Heat Craft Intelligen controller unit. The store says they’ve had issues since start up (I helped install it 🥶). But I found that one fan blade broke, one fan motor failed, and then I saw ice build up behind and around the working fan. There is vibration now (so my plan of attack is: remove ice, inspect failed fan motor, and customize the intelligen controller to timed defrost mode (hopefully out 3-4 defrost a day.)

Anyone working on one of these they have updated and discontinued the yellow expansion valve. 3 changes in less than a year. That yellow one had issues with intermittent opening. And if you touch it, it starts working. Take the plug off the board and ohm thru the valve and see if you are getting 150 ohms on the terminals because getting dc voltage (1-5) at the pins on the boards won't tell you what is really happening . There are 4 wires and 2 circuits and you need to see if the voltage is getting to the pins on the valve. If the valve is bad you'll get 150 across 2 pins then something higher on the other 2 pins.

My problem with the qrc is they aren't being stocked I needed one the other day and they had to special order it. The customer had to order a freezer truck. And wait 2 days
It makes sense to integrate defrost controls into the evap coil, it just simplifies everything. I’m not sure that using the EEV in place of the solenoid is the best idea, if the EEV plunger pin wire draws and leaks (and it probably will one day) it will set up an old compressor to short cycle. Maybe that is what was intended...
