Joie Foster Hi I’m not Katie but If you get a long thereband (bad side first) and tie one end to your standing foot other end to your other foot and do developés and Grand batebass and (sorry for my spelling) do it about ten times on each leg and it helps. 😁

Hey, Katie! I was wondering, when a dancer like you, who's already had a career, joins a new company, do you have to start in the corps like any new member, or is it possible that you would be automatically taken in as a soloist or a principal because of your previous dancing experience and the amount of training you've already had?

I wanted to let you know I find these videos helpful as a horseback rider. A lot of times, your tips about muscles and feet care help me out a ton because legs and feet are extremely important in English riding, and often my injuries are soreness in my ankles and feet. The hacks about putting your hair up super tight also helps, because in hunt seat competition you must put your hair up in an extemely clean bun under your helmet. We also often ride in bright red lipstick because it’s the only “non traditional” thing thats aloud in hunt seat riding, so we love to have fun with lipstick, but we sweat a TON when we’re jumping and it often runs. I always share your tips with my riding friends, and they’re all so grateful! Much love Katie!

For ice massage... instead of an ice cube, freeze water in a paper cup (preferably lightly waxed... small -- 6-8 oz -- glasses that you would but a fountain soda is work the best). Then you can just peel back the cup little by little each time you do your ice massage.

Omg the tights hack would of helped me so much back when I use to do ballet. Like you said, I felt my tights made it harder for me to work through my feet and toes. At times I remember I felt like I my foot was sliding within the shoe because of sweat and fabric. I remember when I discovered convertible tights, they became the tights I would always wear (unless it was a performance/recital where we had to wear a specific type) as I could pull the, off my toes when I needed to.

I use those mesh bags! Just for regular things, mainly bras. I didn’t know they aren’t a normal thing(?) You can use them for anything delicate or made with thin fabric ^^ (For example I wash one of my camisoles in them because it’s older and starting to wear out.) It also prevents the article of clothing from getting stretched, as the machine will be stretching the bag itself, not the piece of clothing, which also can’t be spread out further than the area of the bag itself.

Anyone have hacks for other types of dance besides ballet? I do all types of dance with a slight emphasis on tap. These videos are helpful as I am en pointe, but I don’t do ballets or stuff. I would really love some great hacks for other types of dance, but I’ve never found anything but ballet and the occasional modern/contemporary.

What I use for red lips is, I get the liquid to dry lipstick by covergirl. It comes as a two pack with lipstick and a balm to moisturize. One time I wanted to see how long it will last without a touchup, and it lasts about two days.

Hi! Modern/contemporary dancer here! Just like anything, I think having a good teacher who knows what they're talking about is most important. But beyond that, I think you just need to open your mind to it, and commiting yourself completely. I know it's very different from what you're used to, but with time comes familiarity, right? Best of luck with it!

Hello Kathryn, I have started ballet at 13 turning 14. I am currently 15. However, I fell in love with it and can’t see myself not continuing with dance in my life. Currently I’m not having the training I want as I have only one ballet class a week. My schedule is
Monday: Hip Hop for one hour
Tuesday: Lyrical and Modern (total of 2 hours)
Wednesday: Ballet and Jazz (total of 2 hours)
I’ve been thinking of a better way to get more ballet training. One of my ideas was to only take ballet next season, but have multiple studios to go to for ballet. So I would have more than one studio to go to each week for only ballet. Another idea is the complicated one. Leaving my studio for a more ‘professional’ one. The only problem is that I am not en pointe and since I’m a late starter I don’t know how I would fit into classes in a pre-professional studio, especially not working with a partner like the other girls have much experience with. I just need the best advice from someone that aims to help to future generations of dancers and someone who has made it, because you know what you’re talking about. ANY advice would help me. Thank you

Great, very useful video, thanks! All those years, it never occurred to me to worry about 'bagginess' in that part of the pointe shoes. Now I wonder if I was just being undiscerning, or if it wasn't happening to a noticeable degree. Perhaps I'll find out when I get back on pointe (for the first time in almost five years), after hip joint surgery. It may be a crazy dream, but I'm committed to it.
I love that you counsel against sewing things (most often, elastics) on the outside of the shoes, and I really hope you'll have a widespread influence about that, with dancers everywhere. I find it so sloppy looking, and it's just one more thing to detract from the sleek appearance pointe shoes should have. On that note, I hope that any dancers not yet knowledgeable enough to know that, in performance, drawstrings must be out of sight, will see this video and think that drawstring bows are ok. It's normal to keep them while breaking in shoes, or even just working in the studio, but never on stage, unless for comic effect, or such. Love your videos, your mission, and seeing you looking so happy and healthy. You're truly providing a great service, in so many ways.

When it comes to ice massage, I got a great tip from someone on Instagram. Last February I got an inflammation in the membrane around one of my calves. After a long time of no result trying to get better, I did a HELP-post on Insta, with fitting hashtags, so potential helpers could find me. :) Someone, who obviously works with things like this, gave me the tip to create my own ice-roller. Take a 1 Liter bottle. Fill it with water and put it in the freezer. After the water has frozen you have an ice version of a foam roller! Since this is supposed to be used to cure injuries/inflammations, don't put as much pressure on it as you do when normally rolling out healthy muscles. But the light pressure, combined with the ice has really helped me! :D

Can we do something like the foot strengthening exercises without pointe shoes? I do martial arts and I want to strengthen my ankles.

Hi Kathy! Love the stitch hack. Suggestion, could you do it with a different color thread so we can see it better? Thank you!
    Happy Holidays!!

Hey Katie! So glad to see you back on TH-cam! Do you know when/ if you’ll do another round of your scholarship contest through Dance Wear Corner? I’m going to college next year and am planning to major in dance. Your scholarship would not only be extremely helpful with finances, but would mean the world to me. Love you and your channel! 😊

I wonder if you have any advice or could make some videos on ways to quickly come back to dancing after taking time off.. like how to get back flexibility or gain strength and turn out faster?

You're so pretty!!❤ I'm so glad I discovered your channel. Although, I am not in pointe yet but I am working on my flexibilty and your stretching exercises actually helps! I can't wait to use your pointe shoes tips when I finally get to pointe❤❤

Get this stuff and some muslin, and make your own. It's what I do, and it's a game-changer. www.joann.com/easymold-silicone-.5lb-putty/15357403.html#q=mold%2Bputty&start=1

Hi Katie, I just want to request some advice about toe pads. Do you wear them? If so what brand? Or do you prefer something like paper towels?

Do you have a hack for keeping even pressure on the ribbons? Because whenever I go up en pointe, the ribbons around my ankle are pulled really tight and the ribbons over my arch become so loose and ugly! I can't tie them tighter, or it cuts off my circulation. Thanks xx

Are you using non-stretch ribbons? There are stretchy ribbons that you can use instead. That way you can pull them tight but they won't go loose when you're flexing your feet.
